do I need a youtube channel to submit runs

do I need a you tube channel to submit runs or can I have photo evidences of me doing the run?

French Southern Territories

Depends on the community, but it's common practice to submit video evidence for all runs. Make sure to read the rules, and if you have questions, ask in the game's forum or discord. You can also upload videos to twitch, however make sure that before you stream attempts, opt in to vod saving, otherwise the video will be deleted as soon as you end stream. Also make sure to highlight the vod so it does not automatically delete after two weeks. Do not upload runs to streamable, because they delete videos after 3 months unless you pay for their service. You can also upload/stream on nicovideo or bilibili, but I don't know much about those and can't give advice.

Edit: I should have said this in the original post, but I highly recommend you use twitch or youtube. They are the most common, and in my opinion, easiest ways to record and upload runs. Because of how common and popular they are, there are tools for them that can be used for framecounting and retiming runs without downloading the video, which means that it will be easier and quicker for mods to verify your run.

Just in case you aren’t aware, a YouTube channel is free, and all you need is a Google/Gmail account.

Is it possible? Yes. Is it recommended? Not really.

Most communities will require a video submission for runs. The most common sites are YouTube and Twitch, but you can link to any site you want for your submission, even if it's not a video (but don't expect it to get verified). Some leaderboards, especially in more competitive games, will require only YouTube, but that isn't very common and most games will accept the video on any site. The problem with only using a picture as evidence is that it is hard to tell whether someone cheated during the run or not, so most communities that require any evidence will specifically require video evidence.

If you can't submit a YT or Twitch video, I'd recommend checking with the communities for the specific games to make sure you can submit in a way that works for both you and everyone else.

If you don't want the videos to be "public" outwith speedrun.com you can make a Youtube channel, upload the video, and set it to "Unlisted".

That way only people with the direct link (ie the link you post to submit to SRC) can access the video. It isn't searchable.

You haven't really stated your concerns though, but maybe that will help?

It's not really a requirement to create a YouTube channel just so you can submit runs. You can record and post your runs on other platforms as well such as community forums or as a Facebook post.

As long as you can permanently store the video of your run in one site, I think it's ok. I doubt some mod would reject your run if it's uploaded to Vimeo, for example, as long as the video won't expire some day. What you absolutely need is to record the run and store the video somewhere permanent because almost no one will accept a run without a video as some sort of proof.

@Otbgamer11 if the issue with video upload is due to country or age restrictions, check out peertube. The instance I use has a min age of 3 years old (not 13, actually 3) so this shouldn't impact your ability to upload content if you have a region restriction. Also, I haven't seen an instance yet that's blocked anywhere, like YouTube is.

what is your instance?

I use media fire, you can also use google docs.

Agree with what's already been said. Photos can be edited, same with videos. However, a video is favoured for inspection (in most cases)
