Hello, I am a total newbie regarding speedrunning, but I would like to try Sonic 2 which I plan to play on a PC emulator. However, I know how to run a genesis emulator, but I just could not manage to set up a speedrun environment, much less like you see on youtube videos. I've searched forums, including this one, but I cannot find a tutorial on how to just set up the whole thing. Besides, a lot of the speedrunnig terminology is unknown to me. All I've managed to understand so far is that sonic games speedruns use in game time, but that's led me nowhere. So, I come here in the hope of receiving help. What software do I need, what steps are required? Links to beginner tutorials, or any help, would be greatly appreciated !Thanks in advance !

This is a tutorial for setting up livesplit which is the most popular speedrunning timer.

If the game the OP is playing uses IGT then recommending LiveSplit isn’t really helpful at all.

If you’re asking how to setup a recording or stream of the game, then you can do that using OBS or other broadcasting software. Then it’s as simple as just capturing the gameplay from your emulator.
