Hello, I'm new to speedrunning and have some questions.

Nice to meet you all, I'm "UnorientedLamp" but I go by "Lamp" I have no Idea what I'm doing so if you guys could give me tips that would be very helpful. I want to speedrun games like "Unpuzzle" and I noticed there aren't any runs for those yet.

What is best for me to record my runs, I use Windows. I'm not super tech savvy but I can probably figure most things out. What else should I know about speedrunning and this website.

Thank you, and have a nice day!

I would recommend OBS, or Open Broadcaster Software. You should be able to find it with a quick google search.

Hey there, welcome!

First off, I tried searching for "Unpuzzle" and sure enough, I couldn't find the game's leaderboard, which means it's probably not been added to the site as of yet. If you'd like to send in a request to add a leaderboard for the game, you can do so here.

As for a software to record your runs, there's a few options that work pretty well, but to name two:

  • Open Broadcaster Software, or OBS for short, is the one most people use (including myself) and it's completely free. Might look a bit daunting at first if you're new to this, but test it out for a bit and soon enough you'll get accustomed to its layout.
  • If you happen to have an NVidia graphics card, NVidia Shadowplay is also completely free. It works seamlessly and you barely even notice it running in the background, but it does lack some features that OBS has.

If you're still looking for a visual timer, Livesplit is what most people use and gets the job done. It's pretty straightforward and shouldn't interfere much with any games you might try to run.

Should you have any other questions feel free to ask. Good luck!

@JoJorefrence I guess you could have a try at running Webgames, since you can just play them on your internet browser, but bear in mind that most of them are Flash games and soon enough (if not already) they'll stop being supported by current browsers, meaning you'll have to install Bluemaxima Flashpoint to run them.

Setting that case aside, if you really don't want to download anything you could run any game you already have a physical copy for, but if it's on console you'll probably need a capture card or record the run by hand (otherwise you'll have to download an emulator to play it on PC).
