Earlier this week, The Behemoth released a new update that changes how the map generates. My immediate thought was "this might affect how fast runs can be and slow down the run by forcing more fights". However, after doing 1 single run of Any%, I did a 1:13:42, beating the current Any% record that is on 1.1.1, on an update I declared might be slower and might justify a split.
This was a decision I made myself and didn't ask anyone for opinion, so I guess I should ask now. Should there be a category split between pre-1.2.0 and 1.2.0, or should we keep them combined and keep a category split for when there is actually a big change in the run?
I think it should not be separated, because in my brief time with 1.2.0, I saw that I still had a 4 city block, 1 hideout path for the HQ. The lower elevation for certain objectives and reduced damage of certain enemy types may actually even be in favor of 1.2.0, since except for the map algorithm sometimes wanting more lengthy pathways, there otherwise were not many nerfs for the player.
As of May 19th 2024, timing will now prioritize In-Game Time instead of Real Time.
This will allow more consistency with how official competitions work (if there are any more coming) like the recent community challenge for 1.3.0. This will also prevent any inconsistancy with loading between console
