[How To] Speedrun ADOFAI Without Losing Personal Save File (PC and Android)

(PC)

1. Make sure you close out of A Dance of Fire and Ice.

2. Open Steam and Right Click on A Dance of Fire and Ice in your library.

3. Hover over "Manage" and then Click on "Browse local files".

4. Windows Explorer will pop up with your game folder.

5. Open the "User" folder and you should see "data" or "data.sav", depending on whether you have file extensions enabled or disabled.

6. Right click on the file and copy it to somewhere else on your computer where you will be able to store it for later. In my case, I will paste it in the base game directory.

7. Once it is done, you may close out of Windows Explorer and open on A Dance of Fire and Ice.

8. Once you are loaded in, press the "Esc" key, go to settings, and scroll all the way to the bottom. Press "Erase All Data" and now you are ready to speedrun A Dance of Fire and Ice.

9. When you are finished with your run, close out of A Dance of Fire and Ice and copy your data.sav file back into the "User" folder.

(Android)

1. Make sure you close out of A Dance of Fire and Ice.

2. Go to the "My Files" app (or any other File Browser).

3. Go to "Internal Storage > Android > data > com.fizzd.connectedworlds > files"

4. Here you should see a "data.sav" file. Move/Copy it somewhere else where you can find it later.

5. Once that's done, you may now go back into ADOFAI and proceed to "Erase All Data" through the in-game menus.

6. When you wish to restore back to this old save, just repeat the process above but copy the backup back into the file where you originally copied it from.

[How To] Speedrun Individual Levels

For the individual levels, you do not have to clear your save file or do anything of the sorts to your existing save file.

Your records are mostly based on the Speed Trial factor but it's your timing that will guarantee you a record.

Most importantly, you will need to start the timer at the same time you "Press Space to Start"
You will end the timer when you hit the final beat. You may re-time as needed although I find it simple to map the split button to a key that's nearby the button you usually use to play.

It seems redundant to include a real timer, considering almost all runs of the same speed factor will all be considered the same, however the main point of the Level Leaderboard is to showcase those who can Pass or Pure Perfect songs at higher speeds.

[Introduction] Leaderboard and Category Explanations

Full-game Leaderboards

Main Worlds - Completing Worlds 1-6.
12 Worlds - Completing Worlds 1-12
100% - Completing Worlds 1-12, B, XC, XF, and XO + All Speed Trials Completed.

PP%
-----------------------------------
The PP% categories are all the same as the above-mentioned ones, except you must complete every "-X" level with a Pure Perfect. (Speed Trial is an exception for 100% PP%)

The Pure 100% category is special, as it requires you to complete all worlds with 3 lanterns on each AND you must get a Pure Perfect on every level both standard and in Speed Trial. This one is for the most hardcore ADOFAI players so run this one with caution. 

Platform (subcategory)

Runs will be sorted by Platform as the hit windows and menus are different between the PC and Console version of the game. 

World Tutorials (subcategory)
-----------------------------------
Runs will also be sorted by Any% and Tutorial% (subject to change) which basically means that you may skip the tutorial levels within each world and skip straight into the "-X" levels. These runs would go under Any%, while runs that do the tutorial levels will go under Tutorial%. 

Tap Style

Fairly self explanatory. Choose between double-tap and single-tap styles based on how you play. Double-tap means 2 fingers are used and Single-tap means 1. This is mostly on here for fun so it won't affect how you score on the leaderboards. (you can still flex tho)


Level Leaderboards

There is a separate leaderboard for all 16 levels within the game. The purpose of these is to see how fast you can play compared to other players. If you want a lower time, you must speed up the song in order to save you time. Runs are separate into Pass/Pure Perfect categories.
