How to set up a counter for your speedrun

Step 1 - Download

Download the DCSB software https://github.com/Kalejin/DCSB/releases/tag/v4.0.0.9 and download Streamlabs and login: https://streamlabs.com/

Now both programs should be running and ready.

Step 2 - Text file

Now go to your documents in file explorer (or a different place if you prefer) and create a file named "Speedrun Counter" (or any name you prefer). Write "0" in the document, save it and then close it.

Step 3 - Setting up DCSB

You can start by setting up your preferred hotkeys in the top left. After this you can right click the white box and click "add", or you can click on the icon in the bottom left. A menu will pop up. Here you can type in your name for your counter. After typing in the name, you now have to click on the 3 dots on the file line. This will lead you to your file explorer, where you can then double click on the text file we created in step 2.

Press your hotkey a couple of times and then open up the document to see if the 0 has turned into a different number (warning: do not have the document open while pressing your hotkey). If the 0 has changed, you can move on to step 4.

Step 4 - Setting up Streamlabs

To avoid visual confusing; start by deleting the default display capture that Streamlabs has given - you do this by clicking on the display capture under "sources" and then hitting delete on your keyboard or clicking on the trashcan.

Now click the "+" button next to "sources" and a menu will pop up. Click on "general" at the top of the menu, and then click on "Text (GDI+)". Name your text source. There will now be a menu where you can choose the settings of the text. The setting we are looking for is "Read from file", click the squared box. Now a "browse" button will appear, and we do the same thing as with DCSB; Click on browse and select your text document we set up in step 2.

The last step is to increase the size of the text source. You do this by clicking on the text source under "sources" and then 9 squares will appear in the top left of the program - drag the bottom right square to resize the text source. It should now show the number you have in your DCSB, and will update whenever you press your DCSB hotkey (with a small delay).

Step 5 - Finished

That's it. Now you can count interactions in-game with your hotkey, and it will show up on screen for your speedrun recording/stream - assuming you're recording/streaming with Streamlabs of course. You may also be able to do this in other software, and that is of course allowed for Fantastic Frontier speedrunning.
