This short guide is for people wanting to start Affogato speedrunning for the first time.
It will cover the preparation required for running, as well as some basic concepts of runs.
Preparation Please do the following before you start speedrunning:
Beat the Game - Beat the game casually. It allows you the ability to skip all the dialogue cutscenes, and it unlocks the Demon, a very powerful unit that is useful in long categories.
Special Dialogue - There are some special dialogues you must encounter. These dialogues make the runs faster, and the only way to be able to skip them is to encounter them once. We will note the cutscenes required below:
- Coke to Aoi, twice on first 2 times meeting her.
- Milk to Lindsay 1st encounter.
Stats - Beauty, Courage and Intellect stats carry over to from any finished game save files. While for Any% this stat doesnt matter, 100% requires you to have a maxed out stats to access every relationship encounter.
Basic Concepts
Chariot Tutorial Skip: In the tutorial, there is a rather small window where if you play the Chariot the moment you have 4 Penta, that you will be able to skip the tutorial window. This saves around 5 seconds, and is a rather easy yet finnicky trick to do. Note that this is easier to perform at 1x speed, so change speed if you are not consistent.
Action economy: Actions in running are mainly placing units/spells or adjusting the floor. Note that every action you perform wastes at most 1-2s to perform, so it is important to do the least actions that get the bare minimum to perform a task. HOWEVER, do not be afraid to do more actions if you are not confident that you can safely do a quest.
Placements: Placement of units are important especially when you need to encounter the enemy faster. DPS should be placed in front so that they can encounter the enemies faster, whereas utility like The World should be placed behind so as to not affect the DPS as much.
