1.00 vs. 1.01: What You Need To Know

Recently, we found out that due to load time differences, an earlier version of Wii Play saves 5.45 seconds (compared to the later version) over the course of most full-game runs. This video contains everything you need to figure out which version you have.

All Golds Guide (STILL WORKING 2021)

2020 Edit: Point values fixed, and has been rewritten. Might update a bit more, but this should be more complete than before.

Shooting Range is **500 points**. As long as you don't break the combo, you should be able to skip round 4. I wouldn't try to keep the combo after that point, because the UFOs in round 5 are really fast. I believe if you have enough points, its faster to let the gold UFOs take all your miis away, although not certain. Make sure to hit the ducks if you can, but don't break your combo for them.

Find Mii is to **pass round 60** and fail on round 61. The strat here is to make a ton of miis that are all easily recognizable. Different colored hats are the best, especially in the later rounds. During the blackout rounds, I shake the wii remote pointer everywhere to trick myself into seeing more of the board, but might not work for everybody.

Table Tennis is just to **reach rally 100**, which is when you beat the CPU. The game will automatically end when it reaches 100, so don't worry about going over.

Pose Mii requires **800 points**. The faster you can pop the bubbles, the better. Some limited testing has shown that the faster you can pop them, the more that spawn per level. If you're fast enough, you can skip a level transition and end at exactly 800 points.

Laser Hockey is to have **10 points and win**. You don't need to be 10 points ahead, just have 10 points. My strat shoots the puck up right to sneak around the CPU, but in the later rounds you'll need to have more speed to get around them. If the CPU scores, it's a few second timeloss, but it isn't that big of a deal. You can stop the puck by having it hit the back of your paddle(?) which makes it easy for the CPU to not score once you've gotten your points.

Billiards is terrible, and I can't give you a ton of strategies. **Its 10 shots no foul, 9 with 1, etc.** If you can get the balls in fast enough, intentionally getting fouls is fast. **HAVE THIS SPLIT FIRST** because of how insanely RNG heavy it is.

Fishing is **2300 points**. Try to always catch the Bonus Fish. If you catch all the Bonus Fish in the pond, another one will spawn in the middle right after, OR the Bonus Fish will change. Spawn camp the fish for good results. Small Fry take 0 ticks on the line before grabbing it, Green takes 1, Yellow takes 2, Red takes 3, King takes 4. Make sure to grab the King when the Bonus Fish is him. Also, hold A when the credits roll.

Charge! requires **300 points**. Hitting all the scarecrow is 300 points, and then there's also the time bonus. To start the minigame, pause and press "Start Over" to skip the cutscene (saves ~1s). Also, before the race starts, if you hold back and then hold forward right as the race starts, you will get a boost. I average finishing the race with 290 points, with about 20s on the clock. Missing more scarecrow would be optimal, but more risky. Also, if you turn too tight on the cow, you will slow down significantly, so learning how to do that properly is a must.

Tanks!! is **completing round 20**. The amount of words it would take to describe how to do this quickly would take longer than just watching the Tanks single segment WR. I recommend checking those out, as they are really good.

**NOTES:** 4:3 is faster, because it makes the Tanks!! levels shorter, as well as the Laser Hockey board (I believe). Also, when doing runs, using the Guest Miis are ideal because their medals won't save. Just remember what mii you are using for Find Mii

Billiards Tactics

This is a short and simple guide on how to get your All Games/Medals runs past Billiards .01% more consistently*.

Backspin:
-Mechanics
This essentially makes it so your cue ball will spin backwards after one of two occurrences: a short time rolling forward (less drastic backwards movement) or colliding with another ball on the table (high backwards momentum). Angles and distance from collision (with ball) control the direction and speed of the backwards movement.

-Technique
Simply hit the ball on its lower half, further towards the bottom, the more intense the backspin, the higher the speed, and vice versa.

-Scenarios
1) Your cue ball is in a direct line with another ball and the pocket. You are very close to this ball, but you don't want to go into the pocket for obvious reasons.
Hit towards the very bottom of the cue, you will go forward enough to hit the ball into the pocket, but you will spin backwards as soon as you hit. If you wish to stay close to said pocket, hit at the 25% mark (as if bottom is 0%, and top is 100%.)
2)  Your cue ball is in a direct line with another ball and the pocket. You are very far away from this ball, and you want to get it into the pocket but are worried that you may go in with it.
Hit the cue towards the middle, but still on the bottom half. Towards the 40% range.

Topspin:
Exact opposite of backspin, its use is to break up awkward groupings or to get a better angle off of a ball

Right/leftspin:
Don't do it, your cue ball will sit there spinning forever after all other balls have stopped moving, therefore wasting time.

Playpedia is a fully comprehensive speedrun guide for all skill levels. The starter kit section is enough to get into runs as a beginner. More intermediate/advanced strats are in the individual game sections. There are also links to other resources such as the cheat sheet for quick referencing, a score skip setup tutorial to save time in medal runs, and a Tanks lookup tool.

Tanks Solo 20 Guide

First note: especially in some of the later levels, the enemy tanks may move around in random patterns that disrupt some of these mentioned strategies, so don’t expect to follow them exactly.

This is played on emulator so it can’t be submitted but the ideas are all the same. 


General tips. 
First, always try to stay near the edges of walls. This makes it harder for bounce shots to hit you and thus, you have less directions to worry about when blocking bullets coming at you. Deaths cost 10 seconds each or more (depending on how far you have to travel) and it can even be surprisingly easy to just take a death. 
Second, look for creative ways to hit the enemy tanks using a bounce shot. You will become better at this by practice, pattern recognition, and watching videos. This often helps you hit the tanks faster and reduces the chance of death, as you don’t have to directly confront the enemies. 
Third, set your aspect ratio to 4:3. This makes the screen less wide, decreasing the amount of time it takes for tanks and bullets to travel from one side to the other. 
Fourth, target splits I like to shoot for when going for a sub 8 time are: 5-1:15, 10-3:10, 15-5:20. Add on time accordingly for slower targets. 
Fifth, don’t be afraid to be super aggressive in the early missions and reset a lot, but tamper down on the aggression later on as deaths are easy and costly.

Mission tips. 
1-5. Straightforward. 
6. The main time loss comes from the upper right teal tank running into the upper corridor. I like to start by spraying bullets with a couple going above said tank to prevent this, and then running to the lower corridor and coming up from the right. 
7. Straightforward.
8. Very volatile, I expect to reset quite a few runs here. Basically just go to the middle of the map, and watch for teal tanks that go to the corners of the map. The speed of the level is based on how fast you can kill them.
9. Here it’s important to recognize yellow tanks can be very good at dodging your shots due to their speed, so make sure to shoot bullets far ahead of their current positions.
10. Straightforward.
11. The two main strats here are to blow up the top wall, or to make your way around the snake map. The former is much more risky but can save time, so it’s really just up to personal preference.

13. Similar to 8, the time here depends on how fast you can kill the teal tanks. Go into one of the passages and then try to hit the teals as they make their way through passages. They can be hard to kill when moving on the far right or left of the map up and down.

15. Pretty volatile. I like to just immediately fire a couple bullets at the bottom purple before moving to the bottom. It’s safe to chase down the tank when there’s only one left. 
16-17. See video for strategy. 
18. I like to start by firing bounce shots off the left wall to try to kill both upper tanks. Next blow up the wall in the middle and shoot through it to hit the green tank. Once the left side is clear of tanks, move through the passage to the right side, and shoot bounce shots off the upper and lower walls to hit the tanks in the upper and lower quadrants. 
19. A lot of this one is about sheer reflexes and how aggressive you want to be balancing risk. I start by instantly planting a mine and advancing forward while shooting to kill the first purple tank. Next you just want to maneuver your way through the map. A lot of practice is required for this one as deaths can easily cost 15 seconds. 
20. Deaths suck in this level, and remember to stay near the edges as bounce shots can easily get you. Try to get reasonably close to one of the white tanks before firing, as missing will cause your bullets forever to dissipate, leaving you defenseless.
