I think it would be interesting as long as the stunt track requirement couldn't be done in a single stunt, as well as banning going over the wall or out of bounds for a guaranteed landing. 2049 could potentially see a similar category made I would think.
Hey, if you still have those videos, there are IL scoreboards now.
Yea, I don't see much potential speedrunning this concept past Andy, but I wouldn't mind that.
I don't see any issue with requiring videos in 2018. Laptops, smartphones, and cheap capture cards should make it pretty much accessible to everyone at this point.
Oh, and I'd be a little lenient on mercs - the only ones I'd ban were A3 mercs, and the rest can't use weapons either. I hope that's clear/consistent.
Edit:// Apparently OBS doesn't record this game fullscreen for me because of the resolution, weird. Here's a clip of the NM den of evil.
I would ban any spell or skill that has damage that does not directly result from your punch (learned or given from equipment). Holy Fire would be banned, and even thorns would be out (may as well do the pacifist run for that I guess), summons would be out. The werewolf and wearbear forms would be ok, as long as no weapon is equipped.
It's maybe not great as a speed run category, but it would be interesting to see how far you could get. I took a pause on my barb after beating Baal on normal, but I could try pushing into NM. Charms are great sources for damage. Considering how long it would take, even optimized, if this were speedrun, maybe it could just be limited to A1 (killing Andy).
Quick note - I can't get livesplit to display over the top of D2, how do I get it to appear on screen for me to see?
So I've played D2 quite a bit in my days, but recently have taken an interest in speed running. I'll probably try out the sorc first.
Anyways, one miscellaneous self-imposed rule I've done runs with before is a "Punching Run." All damage must result from punching enemies - I allowed a merc but he or she had to be weaponless as well. I found it to be quite interesting, and each class had different skills to affect this (defensive or offensive, enchant punching sorc was entertaining especially).
Anyways, I'd like to try an any % soon, so wish me luck.
I would just add them here and allow High Score categories. Some games basically already do this on the site, too. Some games can have both depending on the game modes available.
I know it may be off-topic here, but can someone add F-1 Pole Position for the SNES to the site? It would be neat to run its Grand Prix. Unfortunately, I don't own the N64 version.
If the original Rush allows the No Time cheat for the circuit, why wouldn't Rush 2? The circuit mechanics are basically identical.
How is there such a difference between the IGT and the real time on some of the courses? There's a Marina score with a blistering IGT but a slow real time, how does this happen?
Whoops, it looks like there are 28 races (7 Tracks, Forwards, Backwards, Mirrored, and backwards and mirrored). So every Circuit is the same length.
So I only have two suggestions then, both of which are rules in the original Rush game: requiring 3 laps to be completed for every track, and allowing the cheat that turns the game timer off.
We should at least do like the original Rush game and require every course in the circuit have three completed laps. It would be more consistent across the series that way. 2049 doesn't have the checkpoint system, though.
First and foremost, races can be lost intentionally by failure to make a checkpoint on time. Is this acceptable? You could feasibly lose 10-20% of races and still win the circuit. Whenever the difficulty creeps up, you can just lose immediately, make the next race easier, and save a lot of time.
Secondly, two circuits will not have the same length, because they won't have the same tracks. There are 7 tracks to choose from (forward, backwards, or mirrored) and 26 races in the list. Even a single circuit getting Alcatraz (under 4 minutes done well) rather than LA or Hawaii (Likely 7 minutes plus) can make a huge swing.
Live timing also makes it advantageous to slam on the breaks right before crossing the finish line to advance the end of race screen faster. This is counter intuitive as well.
I think the best thing would be to have a category where you race the 7 primary tracks forwards and then backwards for a total of 14 races, or to have forwards and backwards as separate categories. Then use the best sum of in game times as the record. This would better incentive car selection strategy without it taking valuable extra seconds to do so. A 7 or 14 race category would be much more time manageable to run and watch as well.
I hope I've expressed myself well, as the circuit certainly seems like a lackluster category due to the reasons listed above.
On a side note, I'd prefer banning unlockable cars as well, but that's another story.
Sorry I can't count, I meant 7 primary tracks
I'd like to submit a run, but was curious on the single tracks as to why AI must be on? There is some RNG at the very start in how the cars break apart, and once you get past that, you may as well be driving solo anyways if you're on decent pace.
I'd also like to suggest a run where you run the 8 primary tracks back to back and add up the best times, with a separate category for backwards, but that's just my 2 cents.
One last question about the circuit mode - if I have all the cars unlocked, can I use cars like formula, hotrod, and prototype?
I've never recorded a run yet, but I've got some decent times in practice. I look forward to submitting runs.
