I love your profile picture, Baldur's Gate II is the shit my dude.
After 6 months we finally get story style ILs. Better late than never I guess.
I, an insignificant nobody, vote that we allow the use of sunglasses. As a Canadian citizen, I am all too aware of the dangers of snow blindness. Prolonged exposure to the reflected light can lead to solar retinopathy, a disorder that may result in some permanent loss of vision. With these sunglasses we can help prevent snow blindness. Do the right thing, save Lara's vision.
I heavily support doing this. I did actually bring this suggestion forward rather recently, but ultimately got rejected by the mods.
I second this. As an IL runner for other games I am VERY interested in doing IL's for this game whether they get hosted on SR.com or not. It would be nice to have them on the leader boards though, plus it may even increase the activity of the game as a whole.
I would have to disagree with you with it being significantly easier on NewDark as on OldDark you can propel yourself at amazing speeds from almost any object in the game making death abuse extremely easy to execute. It can be risky if done too early however which could lead you to failing the mission.
A great example of this OldDark exclusive mechanic can be found in a run I made not too long ago:
I run the Sold Out CD version on TDP which for me seems to work just fine. I don't know the version details of this copy however. You guys interested in autosplitters? I can have a look into creating some for the Dark Engine games if that helps.
Well that sucks, makes you wonder why there is even a SR.com page in the first place.
Interested in doing an IL speedrun of this game but noticed that all the IL records are uploaded to soniccenter.org and not SR.com. Any possibility of an IL category any time soon?
Well you could try Shadowplay. That's what I use to record the game without issues, The_Count can't seem to get it working correctly though.
I hate to say it but you have a point. Enforcing a version not playable for everyone is a great way to alienate the already low amount of classic thief runners in the community. Making a category/separation between NewDark and OldDark versions is the best way to go until a better patch/workaround for the OldDark engine is created.
Since the original glitches are removed in New Dark, I don't really see the value of a separate category. As it is a fan made patch, it creates even less of a reason for it's existence on the leaderboard. Even though it's hard to run on modern systems, Old Dark should be enforced. What we need is low impact patch to make the OldDark engine playable for everyone.
Yep, I end up having to restart the whole game when it happens. It happened less when I used XP compatibility mode.
Sorry that nothing I have suggested has worked for you... It took me a couple of days to work out how to record this game properly.
ddfix comes with the Steam version. It might not change much as I get the same result with the unpatched CD version on my Windows 7 PC.
I am using the Steam version with ddfix installed. It's strange that it won't display them at all. What OS are you running? I just could not get it to display on my Windows 8.1 or 10 laptops no matter what I tried... There certainly needs a rule change on this, it is too difficult to record this game without problems on modern hardware. It's killing the leaderboard.
Also are you using monitor capture instead of game capture for OBS?
