Category title: SMG1 No Intro
Detailed rules explaining requirements for a run to be accepted or not: Normal Mario Run but the intro sequence, which plays at the beginning of the run, will be skipped by letting the timer start at 4:51m. Therefore you start at the beginning of Gateway 1 at 4:57m, which is the same time you would start at this level as when you play the intro sequence regular. Because of the length of the blackscreen in the intro (about 7s) and the length of the blackscreen when you select 'Play this File' after you set it up (about 6s) and 4:57 as the best possible time to start Gateway 1, I came to the start time of 4:51 on the timer. To set it up correctly you have to make a new file, play the intro sequence once and save and end in Gateway 1. If you want to use this variation after a failed run again, you have to go back to the title screen through the “Home”-Button. This can be used in Any%/120 Star Mario and at the beginning of a 242 Star Run.
Three videos of seperate runners playing said category (one video because there are already two runs requested):
Other comments (optional): First 8 Minutes of the video have no sound due to a mistake by myself in my obs. This variation facilitate the grinding of the Categories, because you do not have to watch the Intro Sequence over and over again, which cost way less time. For anyone who wonders: You have to start with 0 Starbits.
I dont want to bother anyone or badmouth the work of the mods, because I have no idea how much work the mods have, but according to the post by @mrmonkey049 there should be a category extension with a few runs on the CE leaderboards.
Now, after one and a half weeks and after none of this has been implemented, I wanted to ask again: what is the status of this right now? Was there no time for this before or is there any problem or something else?
Well, I looked it up again and if you set up this variation, that is when you save and end in the pause screen in Gateway 1, none of the collected stabits will be saved too. On the file you use stands '0' Starbits, which means that you have to start a run without starbits. I guess therefore there do not have to be rules for starbits, a run works as well without these bits from the intro.
I dont know if somebody already came up with this but I have a Suggestion. How about running the Mario Categories without the Intro Sequence but the timer starting at a time where you starting Gateway 1 at the same time as if you would run with the Intro?
To set up the timer I compared the length of the blackscreen in a normal run and if you click on 'Play this File' after you saved and ended at Gateway 1 in the pause screen. I dont know the exact seconds but the blackscreen in a normal run is a little bit longer (about 7s) than after saving and ending in Gateway 1 (about 6s), which is the reason why I set the timer accordingly.
I also looked on the best possible time you can have a the start of Gateway 1, which is, as far as I know, 4:57m. And if you subtract the length of the blackscreen (about 6s) of this, you come to the specific start time of 4:51m.
And this variation would also facilitate the grinding of the Categories, because you do not have to watch the Intro Sequence over and over again, which would cost way less time.
The only thing to remember is: To use it after a failed run again, you have to go back to the title screen through the "Home"-Button.
For illustration purposes here a video of using this variation:
