This game involves the same 8-4 skill required for Super Mario Bros. 1. The level is the same but you are unable to see the piranha plants which I do believe makes this a skill based run. Even a meme game like this does require skills where you can't be complete garbage at the game otherwise the time with be a lower placed run.
I do agree. This does seems sketchy considering the account is only one day old with no other runs aside from this new world record. To get the record, a 315 8-4 IL is required. This takes immense amounts of skill and practice to do in a run with no major mistakes. This doesn't look like any sort of legitimate run I've seen. This doesn't look this any sort of hacked run with any mods or different edits to the game. This runs looks tased for various reasons. To start, it was obviously done on emulator. This doesn't mean much, but it makes it easier for the possibility of this being a tased or spliced run. The new player has no speedruns of Super Mario Bros. without ROM hacks. The past world record holders, SoloQ and Mav6771, both have major experiences in the Super Mario Brothers series. SoloQ has a great time of 4:58.026 and Mav with a 4:57.776. These players have spent the past months working to get the skill required. This run reflected their skill in a way to show a joke and a way to prove their skills as great speedrunners who work hard to get consistent and achieve their goals. Getting a close to perfect run with no past skill or even a simple runs makes me really doubt this time. If I were the mods of this game, I would reject the run for now until further evidence that either makes or breaks this run comes forward. I am highly suspicious of this run and I would like to have other player's inputs on this situation.
Thank you, Jeremy
Getting fanfare skip with all ones, amazing roles, and perfect RNG maybe barely give sub 1. That won't ever happen as all of these are insanely difficult to even get one of.
Lately I've been doing some TAS work on Minus World Ending and looking at the 1-2 clip. My only issue is that I can't use Left+Right because my version of FCEUX just cancels out both inputs. Is there any way I can get around this or am I doing anything wrong?
I'm guessing you probably can't submit a SMAS run unless it is stated otherwise.
I think a fun category would be playing SMB 1, 2, and 3 in one run. A rough estimate of a speedrun like this would be around 25-30 minutes. For this, you would run Super Mario Bros. 1 any%. For Super Mario Bros. 2, you run also do a simple any% run. For Super Mario Bros. 3, the run would be an any% (No Wrong Warp) run. Super Mario Bros. could get something like a 4:58 - 5:30 depending on who runs this category. If I were to play it, I'd guess I would get around a 5:20 or something around that. Super Mario Bros. 2 USA I think should easily be beatable in 10:30. The Super Mario Bros. 3 without wrong warp can be done in 12 minutes or less. I really do think this is a good idea for a category. If a run of this needs to exist before anyone accepts or declines this request, I will work on one.
~Thanks
In this case, I truly don't think the run should be verified since it breaks the current set rules. In Super Mario Bros., the rules say that the timer starts either the first frame you see "400" on the timer or the first frame you gain control of Mario. If you wait 20 seconds before moving, it the time needs to be rejected or have 20 seconds added to the time of the submission. In the case of Normal Super Mario Bros., we don't have an in-game timer or any way to count the frame before as most of these runs start the recording before they move. In my opinion, we should reject the run unless there is some sort of way we could retime the attempt.
The output doesn't matter. The time will be the same regardless of what you select there. I put my input on 29.97 since that is what my recording and game run at.
I would appreciate a name change. I would like my current name (BananaMK) to be set to "Jeremy." If that is not possible or already taken, I would like the name "JeremyMKW."
Thank you, Jeremy
Where can I find this game? I got some version of it to work but it looked completely different from any of the any% run's versions.
I put the video in VirtualDub, find the the frame that the timer is meant to start, find the frame that the timer is meant to end, subtract the frame the timer starts and the frame ends, and finally convert the frames to seconds with this website: https://toolstud.io/video/framerate.php?inputfps=60&compare=network&duration=&duration_unit=frames&outputfps=60 . Keep in mind that Normal Super Mario Bros. runs at 29.97 frames per second.
I counted the frame from both me and Jhynjhiruu's personal bests. I came to the conclusion that my run, which is actually 128.562 seconds (or 2:08.562) is in front of Jhynjhiruu's time which is 128.595 (or 2:08.595). Please make these changes to our times or make me a moderator and I can do it myself.
Thank you, Jeremy
Just convert my run to mp4 with some website like youtubeinmp4.com.
I may have thought of a new strat when you enter the bowser chase part of the game. I thought maybe you could just run into bowser a few times and with the boost he gives it may be faster for the bigger and longer jumps. I doubt this, but someone could try to be sure. If this was a new strategy, I really don't think it would save much time but it's worth a try.
Here is a screenshot of what the crashes look like: http://prntscr.com/ezy873
I tried using DirectPlay on my computer and it doesn't work with it. On the school computers, I avoided installing DirectPlay and it works just fine.
@Jhynjhiruu I downloaded mine for MFGG but I can't play on my computer. My current WR was set at school where I can play with no issues.
