@Nighlin Last time you and I were prepping the run for the Lime City marathon, i tried playing on 1.7 and was losing a few minutes to loading times. It could be different now that 1.7 is on a further version, but I think theyre going for more "accuracy" in loads and performance on 1.7 so I doubt it. I think it makes more of a difference because the speedhack settings were default in the rules for this game for 1.6.0, so it gets the load speed buff from that
Yes, this version is allowed. Just note that it may be slower in loading time than version 1.6.0.
Run was completed on a Retrofreak console
UPDATE - 3/6/24 4:10AM CST
One last update to the patch has been made to optimize the cutscene skips to be slightly faster, and practice codes have been added for Saving Anywhere and Forcing Death for Instant Continue. Final Mix PS2 support has also been added.
ONLY THE CODES FOR "Kingdom Hearts" AND "Kingdom Hearts(JP)" APPLY TO THIS LEADERBOARD. Please make sure you enable the codes for the correct versions before playing.
Patches have been updated on the leaderboards and in the video description. Be sure to update your version so you aren't losing time!
How to use Save Anywhere / Instant Continue codes:
DpadLeft + L1 + L2 : Save Anywhere
DpadLeft + R1 + R2 : Instant Continue
Wow, never knew about this being a thing so that's really interesting. Thanks for sharing!
Unfortunately though, in the Speedrun route we don't learn Blizzard until after the trick master fight, so this wouldn't really be usable. To learn it beforehand, we have to find extra Evidence boxes (the wiki says the box for "claw marks" specifically) , and then talk to the Cheshire cat again.
In the speedrun for KH1 Original and Final Mix, we grab the Footsteps box since it is the first and closest evidence box we see and immediately turn it into the queen to start the Crank Tower fight and progress the world. We also use Fire while crank tower is downed to make the fight faster, so it would hurt a bit to use our mp on empty blizzards instead in the event that we did have it.
Hey @Kervzz ! Backwards Compatible PS3 wouldn't be allowed on the same leaderboard as PS2 because it loads games exponentially faster than the PS2, making for an unfair time advantage. The console is also extremely prone to yellow light of death and GPU failure, so allowing it and kind of forcing everyone else to buy one to compete is dangerous for accessibility/longevity. I have dealt with the BCPS3 and its negative affects on leaderboards for Kingdom Hearts 1, DBZ Budokai, and multiple other leaderboards and this is how i've chosen to handle it after seeing the damage it can cause.
I have heard that some games don't load faster on BCPS3, but ive yet to see an example of one that doesn't. If you have the CECHA, CECHB, or CECHC/CECHE models of PS3 with a disc copy of the game, I would say you can do a run and post the video for us so we can check and compare the loads. It likely will be much faster though, meaning it wouldn't be allowed under "Console" and would have to have a category made for "BCPS3" for submissions.
As for PS3's running PS2 game ISOs through homebrew software like Multiman and HEN, this would be a similar situation of saving large amounts of time on loading alone. However, if you do the run on homebrew software it would likely be fine to be submitted under emulator, we would just have to check the loads and hope that it isn't faster than PC emulation. If it is, it would have to be banned as well for accessibility reasons.
PS3 for PS2 games is a very complicated issue, so sorry if that was a long winded answer. Thanks for asking ahead of time!
The game files are not widely available online. If you want information on how to acquire the game, join the discord server and ask us for help. - https://discord.gg/k5wmNCSaVE
Here's a Video Tutorial for how to get the game working once you have it:
No problem. The discord link is at the top of this forum post and under the game title.
It's not widely available online. You have to join the discord and give yourself the digimon role and we can help you find it.
This is the only video of a completed run, found by @nd606. This run was completed by user 太平洋ホエールズ on niconico.
This is the only footage of a completed run I could find, completed by @BiimRTA on YouTube. I couldn't submit this run to the board because at 1:57:09 the footage was sped up, but if anyone wants a reference for making notes or existing strategies you can see their run here.
Valeria has done some runs to get the boards created, so there are Chapter ILs now.
I like the idea of splitting by console. I've wanted to run the game for a bit but didn't really understand what the optimal console setup was, so i appreciate you taking the time to analyze it as it is usually really tedious work. I definitely advise against manual load removal at all costs for that reason actually, it is the worst thing to have to do lol
You can now super easily make any PS2 from SCPH-5000X - SCPH 9000X model into a region free console with Mechapwn. Use this build of mechapwn specifically to avoid issues with game compatibility. https://github.com/MechaResearch/MechaPwn/releases/tag/3.00-rc4
Tutorial for using MechaPwn:
Switch isn't allowed for submission at all, it's far too unstable. The cloud version's reliance on internet connection to play the game creates unpredictable lag and other issues that make measuring fair competition and run verification pretty much impossible.
For example, someone could get world record with a purely worse run than the person in 2nd, but they lagged or crashed less due to having a more stable connection/better luck with the switch deciding to play properly so they unfairly have a higher placement on the board. Another example could be someone playing the game and it crashes, so they have to reboot the game/load a save which would make it easier to splice.
None of this stuff is fun for anyone, so its best to not allow it. You can still do runs of the switch version, they just cant be submitted to the board.
In my experience burned discs aren't faster than normal discs as long as you're still using the PS2 laser to read the disc like normal
But we'd probably have to see if it's faster with a video of you playing it on the burned copy. If you can post a video of you doing run we can compare the loads and decide from there.
You mean the leaderboard photo? If so characters like Ling and Lan Fan arent in FMA 2003
Thanks for addressing your concerns
If the enemy character swaps characters and you end the round with the kill on their support, the kill counts as the original character you selected to fight.
So let's say your first fight is vs. Tanjiro and Nezuko. If Tanjiro Swaps to Nezuko and you win the fight by killing Nezuko, it counts as winning against Tanjiro.
As for difficulties, I just added a category for each difficulty.
I updated the rules and categories to reflect this info more clearly.
