I found this today on the Bloodstained forum about a way to temporarily patch Steam with Cheat Engine so the old way of downpatching still works, if anyone is interested. (Disclaimer: I have not personally tested this.)

Seems like Steam's latest update broke the possibility to downpatch (for now). You can work around it like this(thanks to CptBrian for this):

  1. Run Cheat Engine.
  2. File -> Open Process -> Steam.exe
  3. Set the right-hand settings to the following:
  • "Memory Scan Options"(Optional?): steamclient.dll (just keep pressing S when the drop-down is open to iterate through each and find it quicker)
  • "Value Type": Array of byte
  • "Hex"(left of the empty form box at the top): Checked
  • "Writable": Unchecked (!)
  • "Array of byte"(empty form box at the top): D0 84 C0 0F 85 2E FF FF FF
  1. Click "First Scan". You should get a single Address in the results to the left and the searched Value next to it.
  2. Right-click the Value -> Change value of selected address(es)
  3. Enter new value: D0 84 C0 E9 2F FF FF FF 90
  4. Click OK. Done. You can now exit Cheat Engine and are able to downgrade games without the "Manifest not available" error, until you exit Steam. Continue through the guide as before.

Since it looks like there's interest in this thread again, I just wanted to point out that the most optimal version for vanilla speedruns is 1.0.0.5 Hotfix 2 in the above post. My previous post doesn't really make that very clear.

Hi there!

If you're going to be running vanilla (i.e., not Ashes of Malmouth), I believe we were running that on version 1.0.0.5 before AoM came out. If you have the Steam version there should be a thread I made here somewhere detailing how to downpatch the game on Steam.

The two major glitches are the item glitch and the stat point glitch. The item glitch is pretty easy, just in a multiplayer game (you don't have to have anyone in it, you can just host a local LAN game with just you) you can activate an item that has a duration-based buff and then unequip/re-equip the item and that makes the buff permanent until either you use the skill again or you quit the game. The biggest application of this is the bone talisman you get from the rover elder in act 2.

The stat point glitch is a bit more complicated and kind of inconsistent/hardware dependent, but the main idea behind that is you hold down printscreen or whatever your screenshot button is to lock the game up, and while the game is locked you mash on a button to assign an attribute point. The game regards all of those presses during the lockup as having occurred on the same frame and doesn't check whether you actually have the stat points to assign, basically allowing you to infinitely dupe attribute points. It also works for stuff like crafting, but again, it's kind of inconsistent.

Like Zen said though all of this was patched out before AoM, so if you're going to be running the expansion that's done glitchless at the moment.

As far as builds go, for the glitched vanilla route the fastest build was just pure nightblade with phantasmal blades as your DPS. The optimal build for AoM is still kind of up in the air, we've tried ravenous earth, storm totems, wind devils, and a few other things but nothing has really popped out as clearly better yet. No matter what ends up being the best DPS though, the best build is pretty much guaranteed to use nightblade as a subclass because of shadow strike and pneuma.

Hey there!

You're right concerning the glitches - in the leadup to Ashes of Malmouth being released a bunch of glitches were found, and we just sort of ran away with it. :D

Having said that, all of those glitches have been patched out of the AoM expansion, which is what most of us have moved on to running. So especially if you're running glitchless, that would be a better comparison I think.

So... apparently ignore everything I just said because all you have to do now is hold down printscreen. Amazing. :D

This post is ages old, but I seem to remember that Kotti and someone did a co-op run at an ESA a number of years ago of IT that used client/host lag to do the glitch. I don't remember how though but it was in/very close to the first town.

Found it:

Just a heads up that I removed the patch files from the resources page, since they were kind of a quick and dirty hack job that wasn't 100% accurate and there's really no need for them now that there's a way to just grab old versions directly.

I made the reddit thread into a pastebin in case it's ever removed or something:

There wasn't anything compiled for this, so I thought I'd write up a quick thing.

General instructions for downpatching are here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/611h5e/guide_how_to_download_older_versions_of_a_game_on/

EDIT 04-Jan-19: Look below for the commands currently in use. -gribboro

Redist packages (if necessary, if the game runs without them you can skip these) download_depot 219990 228983 download_depot 219990 228984 download_depot 219990 228986 1499878012993136397 download_depot 219990 228990 download_depot 219990 229003

Quick note: If you're downpatching the game on Steam I would HIGHLY recommend setting the game to update only when launched. (Right click on game name in library, Properties, Updates tab, select "Only update this game when I launch it" in the topmost box) If you see that a patch is required, switch out the downpatched version for the current patch version you've surely saved as a backup before launching the game, otherwise you'll have to do this all over again.

I mean, with the lag glitch patched out of the current patch you could make the case for this being an any% current patch WR, but I don't know if the mods want to go that route.

I tried this tonight with the manifest from just prior to the patch that fixed the lag spots ("download_depot 475150 475151 6161538556305591993" in Steam console) and it worked, the lag spots are indeed back.

Titan Quest has had a bit of an issue with versioning lately, and Kotti posted this link in a thread about it over there: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/611h5e/guide_how_to_download_older_versions_of_a_game_on/

I haven't looked into this yet but it seems like we'd be able to use this to run essentially any version of the game we want.

California, USAFreezardB7 years ago

I will definitely check this out later tonight when I get a chance to be on Steam. There's at least 3 games I run/am thinking about running that would benefit from this.

Yeah if a WW glitch ever somehow comes along I'd be all for branching the categories into any% and any% no WW.

There's a new glitch that was discovered (not by me) where in a multiplayer game if you activate a duration buff item skill then unequip and reequip the item the skill becomes permanent (until you leave the game - it persists through deaths and zone transitions).

Thoughts on allowing it in the run? You have to be in a multiplayer game to use it, but nobody else has to be in the game with you (so the run would still be done alone) - you can just host a LAN game and close it off to anyone else. I personally vote yes, but I always vote yes and everyone knows this.

In any event this could be quite significant, Mana Infusion gives you +100% to all damage/effectively infinite mana and Blooddrinker gives you 20% lifesteal, and having both of those things on permanently opens the game extremely up.

I mean... I feel like the three of us and Grib get it, but newcomers to the game/community might not so it'd be a good thing to clarify. Idk.

Also if we're editing the rules we should probably add that showing the stash in the crucible before the run is also allowed if you're going to craft (at least I'm assuming everyone is okay with that seeing as how I've done it in runs and no one's complained lol).

I have Immortal Throne, but not an older version of AE sadly.
