It is finally up, I hope someone may find it useful for the speedrun.
After a long time of inactivity, cleaning up the categories at last. Glitchless category will not allow the gold underflow glitch and Talon2 glitch into Goht area. Maybe we will see a new WR soon!
There is soon to come a complete overhaul of the rules and categories.
Anyone else think it would be cool to start a score based category? Ideally you would have to score enough to unlock the Burst weapon by stage 8, in addition to scoring afterward.
This category would not allow for the stage 1 cheat to unlock all the weapons as they must be unlocked normally. As I recall it takes a massive score to get the Burst weapon, not sure how much though, does anyone know?
As for how to obtain such a score, maximizing ammo, accuracy and efficiency, in addition to knowing where to camp to gain points, such as at the end of stage 2, midway through stage 4 after the base entrance is blown open, or stage 6, is important.
Theorizing a way to breathe life into running this game! What do you think Drum?
I have added timing rules. It will take a few minutes for the site to update them. Nice to see someone interested in running this version! The timing rules are below, if we do get a submitted run, and it is verified, I may add a 2nd loop category.
Timer begins after 2 Warps to Neptune text disappears from 1st level screen. Timer ends after final score is tallied in stage 23.
Hm, a unique category, not sure how many may actually run it however.
It has been long enough now and those who have stated their thoughts have spoken. We have two in favor of yes and one in favor of leaving it as is. In the next week I will add a revision to the rule, stating the digits of the timer offset, and will adjust the timing of the currently submitted runs to reflect this change.
We have a new WR run that has been submitted for Glitchless by Paul.
I feel this now is again the time to bring up the aspect of dividing the leaderboard categories based upon the console/emulation used. We know that SGB and SGB2 will run slightly faster framerates than GBC, GBA, or other types of console/emulation.
While not a concern in the past, now, as we have more activity and active runners than ever before, it is coming back up for debate. Over the course of an hour and a half, and from what I have seen in testing, two runners can have the exact same things happen during the run, however, on SGB or SGB2, the estimated time difference is a whopping 2+ minutes.
This will most likely be put to a vote should the mods/runners here feel it required. Until then, the matter remains up for debate.
Should we add a category for completing the Scenarios? If so, should they be individual, all scenarios, or both?
Awesome, its great to see the board has grown to this point! I should start running again!
Darkwing Duck has a time delay on his start for running this game. It is generally more accepted among speedrunners to do so. By doing so however, we alter the currently submitted runs.
I say we put it to a vote. We will re-examine this after 2 weeks time, plenty of time for anyone interested and active to vote.
Update, the issue seems to be resolved, we should now see categories and consoles available for speedrun submissions.
EDIT: I have updated the runs to the best of my ability, the run by Shieldzies had a video link that has expired and was removed. If you are reading this, please resubmit Shieldzies and anyone else that had a run submitted.
Sadly, there was no way to do this, without losing the runs that were submitted. I ask everyone who submitted a run to please do so again. I am currently going through the records we had and will update the leaderboard to the best of my ability.
Speedrun.com has not been cooperative, it has taken nearly an hour just to get to this point, as I am often dealing with the message of the site being overloaded, and the updates I try to get done are lost, leaving me to start over from scratch. This is another reason I have waited until this point to overhaul the leaderboard, as I expected there would be issues. I moderate several leaderboards, and as they become more active, they are updated. However, for some reason the interface has changed on the website, and I have the exact same layouts in the mod settings for the popular games, such as Rock N Roll racing, with detailed categories and consoles. It is not working for this leaderboard however. I have contacted SR support to attempt to continue resolving the issue.
I ask for understanding and patience until we have all the runs back up on the leaderboard, I am working to the best of my ability to meet everyone's requests here, alone.
As the game leaderboard gets more runs, I simply ask for patience as things develop and updates will come. It is the same for every game leaderboard. We currently have a total of 7 runners and the game is not overly active at this time.
I remain open to any and all feedback everyone has, as always, when the time comes, there will be an overhaul of the leaderboard, tailored to the interests of those which have spoken up here. This was the intent from day one, when I founded the leaderboard here. It is nice to to see it has grown to this point!
Not sure why it should be surprising the colecovision got a category, a runner came to the forum, just as you are now, asking for it to be added. That is how things work after all.
Recently, SR.com user hebereke submitted some information regarding differences between Mechwarrior USA and Battletech. A submission with this information was offered, however, there was no speedrun video attached, however this was submitted recently to our leaderboard, I will attempt to confirm in the future. @ hebereke, if you see this post, perhaps you can elaborate further?
From what I understand, you cite the differences in the timing of the games yes, between US and PAL releases of the game for official speedrunning? If this is the case, then if we get enough runners for that category, it can certainly be added.
It was used for practice runs but seeing as there are no other active runners it can be removed.
As long as it is clear that it is separate from 100%, I am all for it. The question becomes, the rules, do we allow dragon warp, poison glitch, manips, etc in the run?
