Lol here I am giving bad advice to people in my video that as long as you mash fast as possible, you get the fragment.

I'm also wondering, you know how how on the PS2 you have that "Fast" Disc loading parameter. On the emulator are you also doing a "Fast" load or regular PS1 load times?

You have probably already tried these, but want to confirm:

does turning animations on/off in the battle change the RNG at all? 1.5) also just changing it between the 2 without actually battling?

  1. Selecting a card and cancelling it multiple times?

  2. Lol turning on the opponent dialogue during battle? 3.5) does the ai do different things depending on whether animations are on or off?

  3. combing a card and cancelling it?

  1. does your chosen name affect battles in some way? (Is that even possible to check?)

  2. flipping cards (only flipping them upside down and right side up multiple times but not actually casting them to the guts pile)

  3. Pressing R1 to advance card text?

  4. Pressing SQUARE to change cards to "Chart Mode"? +That emoji is meant to be an 8 lol. It defaults to it.

Damn Andrew, that's a whole lot of info and I like the route idea. Lol going into A cup with the beginning deck.

My dude, you're going to solve this game and completely break the run. It's only a matter of time now.

You won't believe it, it seems the character's name you input (possibly just name length) and the Colt question ARE VALID variables:

Testing Hard Difficulty Pabs Name is A No to Q3 & Q4 Yes to Everything else

NO to Pabs, NO to Colt: Hare, Gali, Tiger typical breeder cards NO to Pabs, Yes to Colt: Hare, Gali, Naga typical breeder cards Yes to Pabs, No to Colt: Hare, Gali, Naga typical breeder cards Yes to Pabs, Yes to Colt: Hare, Gali, Naga typical breeder cards Bold: Yes to Colt actually changed it??

Changed name to ZZZXXXXXXXXX (the max limit) I put YES to Cue just in case, that turns out to be a variable as well

NO to Pabs, NO to Colt: Hare, Gali, Tiger Will Power, Help, Wild Rush, Hot Battle, Fake Cry NO to Pabs, Yes to Colt: Hare, Gali, Naga typical breeder cards Yes to Pabs, No to Colt: Hare, Gali, Suezo Will Power, Help, Wild Rush, Hot Battle, Fake Cry Yes to Pabs, Yes to Colt: Hare, Gali, Naga Will Power, Help, Wild Rush, Hot Battle, Fake Cry Bold: This created a Suezo somehow??

Flat out amazing work on that table.

But it seems there is something going on. Not exactly sure. How exactly does that timing attenuation you mention work? Is it like milliseconds, seconds, minutes? I'm trying to figure out how I got different results.

In hard mode, I have gotten 3 different results by answering 3rd and 4th question = no The rest = yes

Speedrun walkthrough episode #1 = Hare, gali, tiger Actual Speedrun = Hare, gali, naga And just now after trying it = Hare, gali, suezo with help, hot battle, fake cry???

I wonder how that's changing the last monster? Maybe the colt question, but I didn't have time today to look at it and just tried it before going to bed.

If I have time tomorrow, I will take a look and see what exactly caused it. By looking at your table, something is indeed causing it to shift down by 3 levels consistently. Hopefully, it isn't something random like skipping the intro cutscene in the beginning. Thank you so much for taking the time to figure this stuff out.

LOL the TAS will be Critical Gas & Tiger Combos to finish off the stragglers.

I was recently looking into this, but got busy again (same SOB story I keep telling people).

It looks like most of the decks I was creating weren't affected by Pabs' Question (at least on Hard mode). I'm also not sure if Colt's question about keeping the Phoenix card affects anything. Currently, I don't think it does.

The majority of the breeder cards I got were always the same combo of:

Will Power Grit Mango Wild Rush Encourage

but this combination got me something different: Yes 15 means say YES to the 1st 15 questions. Then NO to the last 5. Yes to Pabs: = Yesx15 Nox5 = Tiger, Gali, Pixie; Will Power, Grit, Mango, Wild Rush, Encourage

No to Pabs: = Yesx15 Nox5 = Tiger, Gali, Pixie; Will Power, Help, Wild Rush, Hot Battle, Fake Cry

As you can see, the 'NO to Pabs' variant gave me: Help Hot Battle Fake Cry

Very Strange.

I wasn't actually writing down the time when I got Spark or Support because I wasn't actually sure what I selected as the difficulty then I deleted my notes since I was going to start over with only Hard being selected.

All I know is that it's entangled within these selections somewhere in either Medium or Easy. Yesx19 - Nox1 thru Yesx12 - Nox8

Also it looks like you're correct when it comes to the monster's skill cards since those haven't appeared to change. For example, my Gali always has: Scratch x3 Kick x2 Spin Cut x1 Thunder x3 Flame Wall x3 Lie Down x3 and from my small sample, it doesn't appear to change.

Maybe you can start with that selection I provided above and see what is actually changing in the memory address to allow those nonstandard cards to be obtained. Then the possibilities are endless :)

Awesome work figuring this stuff out. Unfortunately, I can't really help much other than tinkering on the PS2. But I'll try to help as much as I can if you need me to.

Does your script also take into account the difficulties (Hard, Medium, Easy) & saying yes or no to Pabs in the beginning? (Lol my 1st walkthrough video confirms the Pabs question)

I found out that these 2 variables affect the monster cards in the beginning and potential breeder cards. By playing in Hard Mode, you sometimes get random cards that aren't in the normal deck such as Nuts Oil, Support, Hot Battle, and Spark.

Really crazy if somehow you can get a Pride Env card to spawn in the beginner deck.

I'm not sure about any discords in particular other than the monster rancher discord, they are pretty active, but they don't Speedrun this game, but there were people who played it a lot on emulator when I was active on it.

I'm willing to help as much as I can. Getting a full-blown TAS would be amazing.

Ok I guess it just takes a while for it to show up. For some reason, nothing was loading at first, but now all is good.

San Diego, CA, USABazookaBob20183 years ago

But I don't see anything. Is it just me on my end? I was able to approve another speedrunner's run, but now it seems I can't see anything when I go to approve a run.

@Daravae I thought this site would keep me logged in. Now I know it will log me out eventually. I've activated notifications for the future so this doesn't happen.

Edit: sorry about the multiple threads. Also I've added my email to the discord site button so that shows up too. And updated YouTube to send user directly to about page which has my email.

@Daravae

I have a YouTube account and zero attempt was made to contact me. I was removed as super moderator from Monster Rancher Battle Card Episode 2. Notifications were disabled so I had no idea anyone even submitted a run.

@Quivico

Also I was removed as super moderator and no attempt was made to contact even though I am on the monster rancher discord.

This situation just sucks.

This site removed me as sole moderator from Monster Rancher Battle Card: Episode II even though I check my emails and never got anything. For some reason, I wasn't getting emails about people submitting runs. So of course it looked like I was inactive. What can I do?

topic: The Site
San Diego, CA, USABazookaBob20183 years ago

I lost my moderator status because this site fails to send me notifications about new submissions.

topic: The Site
San Diego, CA, USABazookaBob20183 years ago

I was removed from being moderator for Monster Rancher Battle Card: Episode 2 because I don't receive emails from this site for some reason. So I was removed for "inactivity."

There was some misunderstanding. If only I would have gotten emails directly then this wouldn't have happened.

The only email I received was when I kicked as moderator, but not when a run was submitted.

San Diego, CA, USABazookaBob20184 years ago

I've been thinking about this for a while especially since I started to make youtube videos commentating on a speedrun walkthrough/ let's play style video series for this game just recently.

I am in favor of allowing emulators at this point. I will make it into a separate category. Hopefully this satisfies any new comers. I'm open to expanding the community.

I am still reluctant in mixing the 2 (emulators and console) together into 1 category though.

Feel free to submit a run on emulator. The 1st run to reach me is guaranteed to be an uncontested WR.

Any difficulty will do: Easy, Medium, Expert. Any% (reach the paradise of monsters) or 100%.

Let me know if you have feedback.

San Diego, CA, USABazookaBob20185 years ago

As of right now, they are NOT allowed.

I have posted tips in another thread. If you have any questions feel free to ask them here or there.

Hi Everyone, This will be a post about general ideas and "tips" that I could think of. Hopefully, it will help any runners get a WR. • You can see your opponents discards to card dodge or block cards if you are unsure • High attack opponent decks - Stall against these types of opponents, so they either deck out or you build guts for high power attacks (Toy, Juras, Vijadela, etc) • Stall Opponent Decks - use cards to reduce opponents guts and only discard/use 1 card per turn (Nelson, Stolatos), It is important to keep as many cards in your deck and reducing the opponents guts because Busy Time WILL eventually screw you over.

-----------------------Any Monster Cards ----------------------- • Dodge - use for stalling • Will Power - very situational • Grit - use for stalling • Critical - best used for multi hit attacks such as Flame Wall and Petal Wind because with petal wind, the attack goes from 3 guts to 2 attack each (6 damage total) to 5 guts to 4 attack eachh (12 damage total) • Retreat - too situational • Grand End - too much luck involved if a high power attack follows only for it to miss and you deck out if you run out of guts then deck out in the process • Good Luck - Never tried it, but it might be usable if you add a plant to your team with no attack or defense cards and if you somehow get Good Luck early, then you will get 10 guts added to your deck. However, Decking out becomes another issue • Jump In - can be combined with Naga's counter or Zilla's bounce reflect high damage back to the opponent • Last Man - N/A • PO - can be used to quickly finish off monsters who are vulnerable (referred to Below) • Blow Away - use for stalling • Concentrate (useful against Hare and Durahan) • Persistance - Will not benefit you at all unless you rely on high power attacks without having to worry about your guts draining

-----------------------Breeder Cards ----------------------- • Help - useful for scratch damage • Mango - Useful for keeping Hare's hp up after recoil damage • Wild Rush - COMPLETELY USELESS card. You need 3 guts to use in order to get 5 guts and skip any card use for the turn (and you won't know which cards were discarded until it's too late). Its better to just wait a turn and sacrifice 2 cards (including Wild Rush) in order to have 5 guts next turn • Cool Judge - good for canceling out ENV cards • Hot Battle - N/A • Excited - N/A • Encourage - usually ended up giving the opponent an advantage so tried avoiding it • Nice Fight - N/A • Confusion - Is a cheap card because 2 cards are discarded beginning on the opponents draw phase, not the user's initial turn. • Last Trump - N/A • Fainted - use for stalling • Twinkling - too situational and risky • Reborn - Unusable in paradise of monsters % • Busy Time - use for stalling • Powder - draw a card and heal the difference with a mango or is a good filler card in your deck if you need something. • Nuts Oil - too situational for the cost • Pride - THE BEST CARD TO HAVE IN AN EXPERT RUN - UTTERLY DESTROYS THE GAME because now mixed-breeds can't dodge • Awe - I'm not sure if this can be used for stalling purposes, I haven't really given it any thought. • Ensnare - Can be used to prevent some stalling by opponent - Zilla using In Your Face or Mew using Doll • Lock Tight - Can be used for stalling - I never use it though • Bad Weather - Can be used to prevent damage from Twiddling, Wing Cutter, and Jell Copter • Arid Land - When Matora uses it it causes her to initially lose 1 health on all monsters, if you can use another ENV to negate its effects, she will most likely activate another one. This really hurts the user of Arid land, and benefits the opponent of the user. • Support - If you don’t want to use guts or don’t have guts to use a breeder card (i.e. Fainted), this card can help • Complicated - use for stalling • Fake Cry - use for stalling or preventing a DGE/BLK from being used • Refresh - Can't think of many usefull situations to discard and withdraw unless a defeated monster's skill cards are taking up too much room (I would usually just discard to guts pile) • Pray - ok counter to slightly delay Confusion card • Spark - Can be used for Mew, Plant, or Suezo. • Warp - Can only think of using this to avoid Fire Breath, but puts you at a vulnerable position for aerial attacks • Long Battle - can be used to stall high cost cards, but I find this card too annoying to use • Close Up - use with guts draining moves to prevent opponent from re-decking with Busy Time

-----------------------Vulnerable Monsters ----------------------- *There are monsters in this game that are vulnerable to certain types of attacks (either they can't dodge an attack or they can't block or dodge) **Partial - monsters marked with partial can block only 1 type of attack while being able to dodge both (i.e. Dino can block Pow and Dodge both Pow and Int, but since he can't block INT, Mew's zap will always hit

  1. Dino | Ground: **Partial = BLK = POW - 2 ; DGE Both = use INT moves that Can't be Dodged
  2. Dragon | Ground: *All INT moves will hit
  3. Durahan | Ground: Moves combined with concentration will always hit
  4. Gali | Aerial: Use POW moves that can't be dodged or let Gali waste 3 guts to dodge a move (Preferably allow gali to use dodge move to prevent enemy team from attacking)
  5. Ghost | Aerial: Can only block
  6. Golem | Ground: *All INT moves will hit
  7. Hare | Ground: Moves combined with concentration will always hit along with low cost moves (1 or less guts)
  8. Henger | Ground: Moves that can't be dodged will always hit
  9. Jell | Ground: Use POW moves so strength is reduced by half, rather than INT that has potential to be dodged or reduced by half
  10. Mew | Ground: Use low cost INT moves or INT moves that can't be dodged
  11. Mocchi | Ground: Preferably use INT moves if a Mochi is teamed up with Naga, because Mochi can use HIDE and redirect attack to a Naga which can reflect damage with Counter
  12. Monol | Aerial: Use INT moves that can't be dodged
  13. Naga | Ground: *All INT moves will hit
  14. Phoenix | Aerial: -
  15. Pixie | Aerial: Use INT moves that can't be dodged
  16. Plant | Ground: -
  17. Suezo | Ground: Use moves that can't be dodged
  18. Tiger | Ground: Use moves that can't be dodged
  19. Worm | Ground: Use INT moves that can't be dodged
  20. Zilla | Ground: *All INT moves will hit
