There are a few events where you are faced with another opponent that may be better than you expect, or some events may be faster if you don't try to come in first and that is okay. In these situations, you may want to what is called throwing the match, which is where you fail on purpose. Here are a list of events and when to use the strategy.

All Track Events: Do NOT use this strategy, it's pointless in this situation. All Field Events: You want to use this strategy for all of the events, it's very helpful. The hardest in my opinion is Hammer Throw, the rest of them you just run through the foul line (check my video if you don't know what I mean). All Gymnastics Events: You want to use this, but make sure in vault you are balanced when you land, it makes a long time for Knuckles to recover from not landing properly. Skeet: Use this strategy, basically spam B for minutes lol. Rowing: Do NOT use this strategy, it is pointless in this situation. Dream Race: Do NOT use this strategy, it is pointless in this situation. Dream Platform: Just try your hardest to fall quickly, going through rings gives you a speed boost, so I wouldn't suggest throwing the match here. Dream Fencing: You can use it here, but I would recommend not using it because sometimes the CPU's are not as aggressive as you want them to be. Dream Table Tennis: This is a 50/50 chance, sometime you'll want to throw the match because you may mess up on a rally, and sometimes you may not want to because you are doing better than the CPU, it's your pick here. Archery: You definitely want to throw the match here, it's pointless actually trying to score points, just make sure that you don't release too soon or you'll have to redraw your bow which takes up time. All Aquatics Events: Do NOT use this strategy, it is pointless in this situation. Fencing: Same as dream fencing, sometimes your CPU's are not aggressive at all, so I recommend not using the strategy here Table Tennis: This is the simplest one, just sit there unless you're serving. Let your opponent hit the ball and do not hit the ball back.

If you managed to read all of this, congrats. Good luck on your run. By the way credit to Jdniscool, I got these strategy ideas from his original video.
