##Rules Update

New rules have been implemented. The ones that existed previously have been completely discarded, as they were considered confusing and unspecific at times.

The new rules contain requirements that are thought to be unambiguous (e.g., frame identification). These were provided in order to provide a more accurate run time.

With these changes I, as moderator and runner of this community, hope to ease the speedrunning process for this game. And as well, help (hopefully) increase the popularity of this game.

All of the runs that have been submitted up to this point will be checked and re-timed if needed.

#Full Game (Any%) Rules

  • Complete the game as fast as possible.

  • Time starts when the first frame of 'Chapter 1' appears.

  • Time stops when the first frame of the screen turning completely black appears, right after placing the energy ball in the final slot.

#Level Rules - All Individual Any % Levels

  • Complete the chapter as fast as possible.

  • Time starts when the first frame of the chapter's title appears.

  • Time stops when the first frame of the screen turning completely black appears, right after completing the chapter and before the next title appears.

  • Save states (Emulator) are allowed to skip previous chapters, as long as they clearly start before the chapter being run (e.g., saving before talking to a character that triggers the start of the next chapter).

#Additional Information

A few thoughts on the current guide available:

  • An update has been considered. Or even a new guide all together that is filled with more details, for example adding pictures of the 'Circuit Path' puzzles.
  • There is also a long term plan on creating a 100% or a 1000% run guide. However, this is going to take a lot of effort and time. As I believe, the total number of puzzles hasn't been found out yet. Either through the conventional means or otherwise.

I am also open to adding new speedrun subcategories. As long as they have a reason for them to be played (either challenging, interesting, funny, significant to the DW community, or otherwise) I will consider them to be added. If you are interested, please post a forum post or send me a DM with the idea. A poll (via a google forms link) will then be posted on the forum in a separate post. All of the information needed for the vote will be provided. A set amount of time (ranging from weeks to months depending on the input) will be given for others in the community to vote. Only one vote is allowed per person, thank you for your understanding.

I am also stating here, that I endorse the use of emulators for this specific game. One of the reasons is because recording DS consoles is near impossible nowadays, and emulators allow for simple and easy speedrunning. For now, all emulators are allowed. However, this might change in the future and emulator specification will take place.

I have no plans right now of creating a Discord server, or any sort of media presence, to spread awareness of the game. This is mainly because I am a one person team that is busy most of the time in real life. I won't, however, completely disregard the creation of these, there is always a possibility in the future.
