I think some more categories would generate more interest in the game. Maybe some individual level Speedruns or a 50% run where you just have to beat the first Joker. Even a low% run would be fun where you beat the game with the starting weapon. I don't but I think some different categories would be fun.

Personally (I'd prefer some more opinions):

-Partial game categories don't really make sense, having a run only to the first boss when the game is already so short seems trivial.

-ILs also don't feel that interesting for this game specifically. Specially since you'd need to either have a savestate before the level or you'd have to beat the rest of the game only to grind that one level.

-Low% seems interesting, for sure. Although I think it'd be better to wait for a run to be done before adding a category.

I agree 100% with Jueg. The game is already very short and extremely easy to emulate and practice. You could learn the run in an hour or two honestly. if its not a popular game then its not a popular game. Adding more arbitrary goals I dont think will help. The game doesnt even have an in game timer. So ILs could get messy timing by hand.

I also think Low% isnt a bad idea, but id like to see someone actually do it seriously first.

So I just tried a low% run and it is possible and I got to the last level (Not the Boss) and I couldn't get past it. Not because its impossible but because I suck at the game and gave up but by the time I got to that level my time was 1:12:00. this is not a submission but it is a challenge to do what I could not and Beat the Game with the first weapon.

Managed to finish a Low% run (19:06) honestly it's not that bad, except for 4-2 being stupidly difficult with the default weapon and only one shot on-screen.

It's definitely an interesting category as it makes enemies a lot more dangerous than in any%. If another runner finishes a run, I'll make it a thing, don't wanna create the category only for me to have the only run.
