Weird speed glitch I found.

Okay, I did reproduce this.

Seems to be caused by going to the edge of a staircase which is right after the map entry point. Maybe this can be used in other places too.

I used this in my run as well. There are a couple of other places where you can get a big boost:

  • Exiting the elevator between the Warrior and Bard area

  • The cafeteria room with the clock (going down the stairs when entering)

United States

My Guess is stair physics, Maybe you can do this during not just during transitions but also in areas like the beginning of the Warrior Section. I would save so much time

@CertifiedPyro Is there any advantage of the boost in the Bard elevator? + How exactly did you get it?

Btw use NohBoard or https://gamepadviewer.com/ guys, it would help understand these glitches so much

@Thedoczek No advantage since you can't seem to boost forwards towards the exit. It's done by just holding a direction while going up the elevator

Btw I noticed that every time I perform it, my boost ends right behind the stairs, while you are able to continue it until you hit the beds. What am I doing wrong? (and pls use gamepad viewer)

I managed to accidentaly get boosted here. Since every door in Bards area looks like this, you could get a nice advantage if you manage to get stairboosted everywhere. Plus since the boosts I get are rather small for some reason, the advantage could be quite big here

I did some testing, and it is unfortunately related to FPS. Below are clips recorded at 165 FPS and 540 FPS (the cap for the game):

Here's a demonstration of the boost on the Bard elevator. On lower FPS I can boost sideways, but on uncapped FPS I have difficulty doing that and it usually just sends me backwards.

Since it's possible to do on this elevator, "stairboosting" might not be the correct term for this, but I dunno what to call it.

Then a question appears: Do we want add a rule of capping FPS for runs?

That’s a tricky question. The game does have a 540FPS cap, so you can’t get unlimited FPS. And the game isn’t graphically intense so the cap shouldn’t be too hard to reach.

The issue is with other console platforms, since I don’t know what FPS they run at and if they would be at a disadvantage. And if we do have a cap, how do we enforce that?

Also, I’m not sure if you’re in the unofficial discord, it’ll probably be easier to have more real-time discussions there: https://discord.gg/G4BrBAyDhf
