a side note--the records tab is not available until after you finish offensive driving 101 but the timer is counting (im guessing from the time you get to the menu screen; i doubt it starts at console on). i checked by completing offensive driving 101 and looking at the timer and it had like 6 minutes on it.
or if we're too lazy for that we can just time all the runs with the in game time it gives you under Records>View Profile>Total Time. This time includes menu time but i dont know about load times. However, this does make it a pretty reliable and realistic timer that i wouldnt be opposed to using as the official run time.
what capture card did you get? mine is old and doesnt even work natively with obs and im looking to get a new one.
shit man i gotta get back on the horse @ school chill out
Either way, I think it's important to define a clear start and stop to timing.
If I could make a suggestion, all TASs go to last input but all of the RTA categories I've seen in all of the games I've seen run go to the last event that causes the end of the game, for example, the final blow on the final boss. I would suggest ending the timing at crossing the finish line in the final one on one race that ends the single series.
Thanks for clearing that up! I'll have to retime my run sometime as I ended the time when I crossed the finish line.
Theoretically, load times could be much better on emulator but the appeal for me is mostly convenience. I'll do some testing this weekend.
sweet ill figure out how to use the irc and ill contact you for a race sometime
If you ever want to race a category, hit me up and i might make an srl account. It's exciting to see someone else interested in running alive on this page
As far as I can guess from what experimenting I've done on the gamecube and on emulator, the routes should be the same. I am concerned about completing and submitting a run only to find that they aren't allowed although there is a box to tick for emulators when you submit a run and I've noticed that box isn't there for other games.
If any mods are around I was wondering if runs on emulators were allowed for leaderboard submissions. I could see why they wouldn't be but if they were they could possibly be faster and it would be easier to run and stream.
Thank you, I really appreciate your recognition of my dedication. To rephrase your answer, you're saying that I should keep that route and practice the races because they have the lowest possible times? Thank you for your response.
I just finished timing all of the grand prix races in single series to see if I could be skipping different races that are slower for me for a better time. It turns out that there are a few cases where the route skips a race that is faster for me than a race it doesn't skip. Does this mean I should get better at the races that aren't skipped or should I make a route that's faster for me? My real question is if the route skips the races it does because that's the only combination of races where we are still able to win the grand prix or because whoever made the route chose to skip the races that were just slower for him. Any input is appreciated.
I'm finally around my GameCube to do some testing so here goes:
GameCube without Memory card: 5.83s 6.66s 7.03s 6.98s 6.60s 7.00s 7.13s 6.63s 6.20s 6.58s Average: 6.664s
GameCube with Memory Card: 5.73s 6.70s 6.66s 6.98s 7.18s 6.66s 7.16s 7.33s 6.45s 6.45s Average: 6.73s
These times are much less consistent but slower nonetheless. It doesn't really matter to me because i can get better quality out of the wii and it's easier to capture but someone out there might care.
after some testing and practicing I have a two main questions: when does timing start/stop for any%? what are the specific distinctions between any% and single series any%? if anyone is still around this forum please let me know thanks!
Eureka! When you don't have the memory card in, there is no autosaving! Autosaves seem to take about a second after each event which will really add up over a run. The game still prompts you to save your name when you break a record after an event but that's only one extra input and negligible extra time.
For my own convenience, I'm timing the loading screen of Offensive Driving 101 stage 1.
Wii without Memory Card: 6.43s 5.40s 6.71s 5.96s 6.38s 6.35s 6.36s 6.41s 6.18s 5.90s Average: 6.208s
Wii with Memory Card: 5.26s 6.48s 5.93s 6.48s 5.85s 5.93s 6.60s 5.85s 5.85s (cool) 6.39s Average: 6.062
So it would appear that load times are magically improved by having a memory card with a save file on it but this is (A) more than likely too small of a sample size and (B) more than likely mute because of extra text boxes and inputs due to the presence of a memory card or lack thereof. This is all of the timing I can do at the moment, GCN timings are coming soon.
