Here's what I discovered after analyzing the leaderboards on Speedrun.com!

For this experiment, I’ve set some arbitrary parameters so it aligns with the spirit of the Olympics and the Zelda speedruns/games.

## Rules

- I'm including every Zelda game in the main Zelda series according to [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda#Development). Remakes and remasters are counted with the original game.
- Each included game has at a minimum 2 categories (except Four Swords Adventures, because there is only one official category).
- A category is included if there is at least 50 runners and the goal of the category is to finish the game.
- Categories are picked from official leaderboards on Speedrun.com.

With those rules, let’s travel a bit around 2D & 3D Zeldas, and see what happens overall !

The USA stands out with an overwhelming lead in the medal count, showcasing its dominance in Zelda speedrunning. Interestingly, even if we combined the medals from all other countries, the USA would still come out on top in both the 3D and overall Zelda categories!

Following behind, Sweden, France, Japan, and Canada make up the top five, with each earning between 16 and 25 medals. While these countries are often strong contenders in speedrunning, I believe countries like Germany or England could break into the top rankings with other series - something we might see in the future!

I really enjoyed putting this concept together, and it’s exciting to imagine how something like this could one day look in the speedrunning world. For now, I’ll leave you with a few interesting stats about this experiment. I’d love to hear your thoughts - did you enjoy this idea? Is there a specific game series you’d like me to analyze next? - **Category with the most runners:** Defeat Ganon No SRM (Ocarina of Time) with 1,154 runners

What if speedrunning became an Olympic sport? As a fan of both the Olympics and The Legend of Zelda speedruns, I decided to combine the two and see how different countries and players would stack up in a 'Speedrunlympics' simulation.

# What is the Mario Party Series Relay?

The Mario Party series speedrunners are uniting on **February 15th** to compete across 12 different Mario Party titles in a race to see which team can finish fastest. There are three teams this time around, abbreviated as A, B, and C but more formally known as Team :b, Team What If We Kissed on Bumper Balls, and Team Craziest Cutters! You can find an image below with the categories and names of everyone, but I will include their links at the bottom of this article as well.

Having said all that, let's get into the format of the relay a little bit! We are remote, so everyone can participate all over the world. We have participants from Japan, Europe, and North America, so we have a wide range of time zones to cover, which means it's a good thing **we have nearly 24 hours of speedrunning action planned**.

The planned start time for our opening ceremony is **5:45 AM EST/ 10:45 AM UTC/ 7:45 PM JST** with the first event, Mario Party Superstars All Minigames, starting 30 minutes later.

## So, what should viewers expect?

All three teams are required to provide video feed of their runs. Audio will switch between feeds, favoring feeds with minimal extra audio over the game's to provide a comfortable viewing experience. Each run has its own unique goals, some focus on doing many (or all!) Minigames and winning, while others may be trying to avoid playing any at all. Our commentators will be sure to explain what the specific win conditions are for each run, so whether you are an experienced veteran of Mario Party or you just play a game here or there with your friends, you will be able to follow along and enjoy the fast-paced action! (...and laugh when the luck doesn't go a runner's way.)

The mod team are happy to announce that all slow runs have officially been moved from Category Extensions to the Base Game, meaning if you want to submit a slow speed run, you'll now need to submit to the Base Game, not Category Extensions.

We'd like to give a HUGE thanks to Maximum from the Red Ball Community who helped a ton with the process of moving runs, without him, this process would've been practically impossible .

As well as this change, fast speed has been changed from categories to variables, so instead of mode(fast) you can now select the speed on the leaderboard, same with slow speed.
