The run is real, I used a glitch where if you reset the level after a match has ended while having at least 2 wins and less than 2 losses, you go to the next level, but keep your win/loss count, letting you pass the following levels by only winning once and even letting you skip levels entirely by dying - you lose that match, but as you only lost once while having two wins from before, you go to the next level anyway(the downside is that, to do this again, you need to reset the glitch and get two wins on a level again as having two losses makes the game think you've lost 2/3 regardless of how many times you've won). The glitch should be pretty easy to reproduce, just use the Reset button from the cog menu after a match has ended.

I'm okay with this run getting rejected if glitches aren't allowed, but it definitely wasn't cheated lol.

Yeah, a no skips category could be nice, mainly because then there finally will be a category where we don't skip most of Mare Carelia.

I just found a new glitch in Snailiad, and boy is it a weird one... So you might know this bug in the game where if you press "escape" just as you reload from a checkpoint, it freezes the game. That itself isn't anything very interesting, but when you reload the page and load the game from the last chekpoint, you may notice that you don't spawn on top of the checkpoint as usual, but instead appear just next to it on the right side, which also makes you not trigger the chekpoint. When you now reload again, you move even more to the right! And when you do it again, and again... Well, you might guess what happens. Here's a video I made:

You can also go into walls and through closed doors with this glitch, but going through "illegal" places will not end so well – you'll be stuck in an endless dying loop that will also softlock the game, which can be escaped by reloading the page and loading the game from Snail Town.

This glitch can not only be used to go through doors(which can also be done with zipping), but also for saving a lot of time. You might know that when you reload from the last checkpoint, the game also rewinds the time back to the exact moment you last touched the checkpoint(or collected an item). That means that every time you reload in this glitchy state, no matter how far you've travelled from the checkpoint or how much time you've spent, the game time will always reload to the moment when you touched the checkpoint. So you can, for example, slowly move all the way to the other side of the first room in Mare Carelia and your time will be the same as when you touched the checkpoint. The same can be done with the first two rooms in Spilaris Silere.

However, I think this glitch should be banned from regular glitched runs for these three reasons:

  1. Pragmatic reasons – it is very annoying to perform as it requires a lot of time but almost no skill. It would also make the gap between the Game Time and Real Time much, much bigger. If we allowed this glitch, to achieve the best possible time, runners would have to spend multiple minutes just reloading the game almost every attempt.
  2. Technical reasons – to do this glitch, you have to crash the game and reload the page. Although it isn't specified for Snailiad, I think doing these things on a speedrun of a game is pretty questionable(it is, for example, not allowed to crash or restart the game in Celeste speedruns).
  3. Rule that I think should be implemented – it should be forbidden to reload from the last checkpoint without collecting anything in the middle. Right now, you are technically allowed to keep restarting from the last checkpoint until you do the segment to the next checkpoint perfectly, which won't cost you more time as each restart rewinds the game time back to when you first reached that checkpoint(if you haven't collected anything in the middle). I think it's quite obvious that this is what practising a speedrun usually looks like, not actually performing it, so although probably nobody would do this anyway, it wouldn't hurt to add an official rule that forbids doing this in Snailiad speedruns. The only exception to this rule could be reloading from the checkpoint just as you touch it to refill the hearts, which Lucas McCallum does in his speedruns.

To wrap this up, I would like you to read this reddit post by Bismuth where he scores speedrunning Snailiad in different categories: https://www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/comments/2aoe7o/how_would_you_score_your_games_in_different/cixukaw/ Although this post is very old, I still find it very informative and mostly accurate, except for the glitch part ;) Moreover, in the glitch section he says: "There are no proper glitches that I know of, except from crashing the game by pressing escape on the first frame when you start the game (fun fact: this is not useful for speedruns)." Well, guess what, you'll never know what can turn out to be useful for speedruns!

It's ok, the fact that you made a video about secrets you found with zipping doesn't interfere much with me making quite a different video on the topic. If anything, you provide more insight into the various places you can get to with the glitch that I wouldn't have investigated, and I also believe I gained a sub from your video.

I originally planned to make a video on how to perform "the glitch"(and some other glitches I found), which would also introduce to the Snailiad secrets as the glitch can be used to get out of bonds, but then I saw that you learned the glitch on your own and I thought you would be happier to explore the secret worlds for yourself, without spoilers. Should I still make the video? I could also include a basic instruction on how to use Cheat Engine on Snailiad as it can be useful for quite some things(hopefully not for cheating on speedruns). Final final thing, wouldn't it be better to find a less generic name for "the glitch"? I though I'd name it "zipping", but tell me what you think about this.

Yep, we both have. I think I should finally give you both a link to this super old forum post: http://famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=2241 As you can see, people knew about these secrets days after Snaily's release! They used a different glitch to get outside that's now fixed, but still. This is the post where I originally got to know about the secret places as I found it quite a bit ealier than I found the glitch, and I explored the secrets using Cheat Engine.

However, I think glitched 100% should have two categories – "restricted" and "unrestricted"(maybe you can find better names for these). Basically, when you go out of the map area in Snailiad, things get really buggy, you start to encounter more or less copies of the normal areas in Snailiad without any blocks, only entities, and among other things also Helix fragments and hearts! Even more, when you collect one of them, go out of the screen and enter again, they respawn and you can collect them again, and each time the corresponding amount of fragments or hearts goes up by one until you've reached the maximum amount. So basically, you can get the necessary amount of Helix fragments and hearts for 100% just by collecting a single copy of them outside the map over and over again, which some players might not find to be "in the spirit" of 100% runs as they're usually about finding an optimal path to explore most of the game world. But also, glitches can be very creatively used to traverse the world faster, so we shouldn't leave the "normal" world-traversing runs just to the glitchless category. That's why I think we need two glitched categories for 100%, where in the "restricted" category you can use glitches, but you are not allowed to go outside of the game map(or maybe collect anything from the buggy areas), whereas in the "unrestricted" one you can do whatever you want.

Any% and 100% should probably get a glitchless category if people really want it, right now I don't see how glitchless runs would be much different or more interesting than glitched in these categories so they probably don't need a new category yet.

Edit: Actually, it probably should be a category, just an unusual, very short and technical one! I might not be a big fan of this, but others might enjoy optimizing all the glitches and jumps to be as perfect as possible. But it certainly should be a different category than the glitchless boss rush.
