I do know of a version of the game with a different level 1 but never heard of one with no clouds. Where did you DL Sexy Hiking from?

just make sure youre holding left and strike the ground straight down, I tried to find a setup for it back when it is discovered but couldnt. i found it a bit easier when my hammer was initially about 2/3 extended instead of fully extended. it's definitely possible to get on a streak of 20-30 tries without getting it once- it's very unreliable

I mean if I'm being completely honest I think his 2:32 is legit but it doesn't matter because he lost all credibility by cheating. He should not be reinstated on the leaderboard (this is the precedent that has been set by pretty much every other speedrunning communtity)

No timer is not recommended but I guess it's fine because the mods can time your run

EDIT: I made an improved version with a faster Level 2 and Level 4, dropping the time down to 30.30s.

The level 2 is kind of questionable because I'm not sure if the quadruple jump is even possible (I'm able to get enough height on my fourth jump, but the one time I pulled the trick off, I wasn't able to move my hammer up to the tree branch in time, so I had to splice there in order to get the hammer positioned correctly).

I think the level categories are fine because they are kind of a compendium of the community's best splits so people can see what the theoretically best possible time can be (although there are a few missing times, like Deffar's 3s Level 1). Personally I would like an Any% Glitchless category. It would basically be the same as Any% Skips, except the Level 3 strat would be the barrier jump. I think it would have potential for being the most competitive category because the Level 3 clip is highly inconsistent (I personally get it first try around 1/15 of the time) and the barrier jump feels more in the player's control.

The no skips category can be interpreted in two ways:

  1. Use the route that Jazzuo intended + don't glitch
  2. Stay inbounds + don't glitch

I think the mods have decided on the second interpretation. The difference between the alternate Level 4 route and the Level 3 barrier jump is that the barrier jump takes you out of bounds, whereas you are still inbounds when doing the Level 4 tree walljump. That's also why the jump straight to the face from the L-shaped blocks in Level 3 is allowed, even though Jazzuo probably intended you to swing on the ropes above.

To make Tehninza's Level 3 clip more consistent, focus on making the handheld end (the opposite of the striking end) of the hammer go leftwards. You will see in the run that I kind of do a circular motion in order to position that end of the hammer correctly.

Edit: After further testing it appears that I am wrong.

Yeah you can do this, but I believe it takes 0.36s for your character to drop down to the ground after Level 1 loads (he spawns in the air) so you'll have to add 0.36s to your time.

So basically, level transition times vary from player-to-player, probably due to lag. Since gameplay doesn't actually occur during these transitions, I think it would be more fair to remove them from the timing of the run entirely.

To showcase this disparity, here's my PB:

My transitions between levels (periods between completing the level and getting to make an input in the next one) consistently take around 7 seconds.

For comparison, here's Deffar's WR run:

His 1-2 transition takes ~4 seconds, and his 2-3/3-4 transitions take ~5-6 seconds.

Of course, there are some downsides to only timing the gameplay. It would be harder to actually figure out the time of the runs, and the verification process would be a lot less streamlined. I'm also pretty biased because my PC is a potato, therefore I would stand to gain the most from this change.

My suggestion to implement this would be to create two separate time columns on the leaderboard, one for real time and one for in-level gameplay only.

You can first-try the glitch fairly consistently by bouncing off this region of the floor: https://imgur.com/a/GSuXW

...and then quickly driving your hammer into the notch, while you're still airborne. I think the reason why this works is because it gives your head a little bit of extra height.

Zurcio used this in his run, and you can tell this by the orientation of his hammer (it's clipped into the ledge he's standing on and angled upwards) when he finishes the game.

Today I accidentally warped through the floor of level 3 while doing a full game run. I managed to reproduce the glitch and get this run of Level 3:

It's actually slower than Deffar's WR Level 3 Barrier Jump, but it's definitely possible to refine this strategy and do it faster.

How to recreate:

  1. Get to second branch
  2. Walk all the way right
  3. Bump the top branch to glitch into the second branch
  4. Bump the second branch from above, to glitch further into the second branch
  5. Bump the second branch from above once again. Sometimes, you will glitch through the floor

Keep in mind that steps 4 and 5 are extremely unreliable.
