Hey there Belay!

There are limitations on what emulators are allowed for submission with the goal of keeping the performance/speed the same between everyone's runs. The permitted emulators for N64 are:

N64: • Project 64 v1.6 • Project 64 v1.7 (recommend) • M64Py v0.2.4 (Mupen64Plus v2.5.0) [Linux only]

Which was outlined in this post by GhostSenpai: https://www.speedrun.com/ddgq/thread/hlc1s

I think there might be a version of the last one that works on mac, but for now that's the rules. If you can't find an emulator that works for mac maybe we look into the ones you said and try to get them added if they are close enough?

I would avoid running it on the wii as it emulation that is not supported on the board and from my experience is very buggy. If you were to run it like that you would submit it under emulation.

If you wanted to try, the dreamcast version plays almost exactly the same and you might have better luck getting an emulator that works.

There's a lot of browser/obs forms of input overlay out there! Here's a few: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/input-overlay.552/ https://gamepadviewer.com/

Hope this helps! <3

Good run! Glad someone finally broke that 3 year record. We'll have to race sometime :D

California, USAUI_Jess1 year ago

Good job! I was really hyped to see you went for easy skip on your first run! Make sure for next time to get the auto splitter to give you game time! It allows us to compare pc runs to each other more accurately.

California, USAUI_Jess3 years ago

Its a little late, but I did finally get around to testing it. I did three new files and got to the same point on the ps2 ntsc version of the game running on a slim ps2 and each time I was able to successfully skip the cutscene immediately without crashing. I'll give it a few more attempts, but if anyone else has the game, especially the pal version, I would like to see if you have the same error or not. For me, I would press x to skip the cutscene, it would cut to black followed shortly by the load screen.

Its all good Marsh! If its that frequent of a problem I definitely think its worth looking into. I happen to have the PS2 version so I shall try to replicate the crash. If you have some footage of it that would also be great!

Given that it happens on both of your versions I doubt it would be faulty hardware, but I want see if I can replicate it just to be sure. The change in likely hood of a crash between the PS2 and PSN versions of the game, to me, seems like an error with loading. Since the PS2 isn't exactly known for having the best load times and it seems the longer you wait the less likely the crash.

I wouldn't want the major time save of the category being whether or not your game randomly crashes on a cutscene either. I'm sure if we needed to we could cut the time from the beginning of the cutscene to the end of it out of the run, but I would like to verify the problem first before we jump to it. Since we would need to manually retime all the runs.

If anyone else runs these versions or the gamecube version and have experienced this it would be great if you could say so in this thread. Any footage of it would be great as well.

Hey guys, a post was made here a while ago and then disappeared asking for a solution to an issue with a particular cutscene that was buggy and had a chance of being unskippable or having a particular inconsistent issue.

I didn't save it while it was up, but I was wondering if anyone had any video/better knowledge of the issue that might be making it harder to run. I'd like to see if I can replicate the issue and if its something that is worth trying to find a work around to make it easier for runners.

As far as I know its not a problem with the patch but with the game its self. I have only heard of the pc version working with cutscenes once. if you just wanted to watch them they are in the files of the game and you can watch it with most video applications.

We already have a forum post discussing the best version of the game for speedrunning called "N64 PC DC any% and 100%", that was started by me 8 months ago.

A little tldr: PC/N64/DC: PC has by far the fastest time with its loads and higher frame rate than the other games. N64 has some good time save over the PC version due to its numerous bugs that can shave minutes off of both any% and 100%. DC isnt nearly as fast as either

PS1 is completely different from all other versions of the game. Its best on PS2.

PS2 vs GC hasnt quite been determined yet but in theory the digital copy you can buy on PS3 should be the fastest version of the game.

There are banned emus and generally I would not recommend running them because of how inconsistent and buggy it can be vs the normal games. if you want to see what emus are allowed Ghostsenpai made a post when he become head mod announcing it and I believe its written in some of the rules.

I'd suggest working out your pc version with us on the discord. Im sure we can get it to work for you.

Alrighty Matchless I have some beef.

Firstly it was made pretty darn clear that when it comes to PS1 emulation that the only accepted version are:

Maybe it should be posted somewhere a little upfront to avoid this from happening in the future, but it have been there for two months which is significantly longer than you have been here.

Second don't you think that seems at least a little suspicious to a mod? You have only ever posted two runs total for this game, both on emulator, both in a very low quality which would make things like splicing easier, at least one with audio that cuts out often when the rules specify it needs to be there the whole time, and the world record that is almost a full minute ahead of everyone else?

Third could you at least take a minute to double check these things before making a post like this? There are posts on the forum about what games you should play and what versions to use. The rules say post the name and version and its not in the name or description of either of the videos you posted to youtube:

Don't go calling people out and saying others are being disrespectful when you act like this.

*Not to mention that "inacceptable" is not a word

Hurray! Congrats on being mod my dude!.

Personally I believe that both PC and EMU should be put in their own categories: PC for run faster than the other versions over all, but loses a few glitches like the level 4-2 skip and EMU for having new unique glitches, seemingly runs faster than N64 standard and for being an unintended initially unintended way of running the game which may cause us problems when we want to go to events like AGDQ and all our top runs are on emulator.

This would also mean that the run over ride would only effect people who play DC/N64 so if I get a good N64 emu run it wont over ride an N64 run on the console or something like that.

I think that your changes to audio and input display is very smart! I think it would also help if we gave the option to load a 00.0% completed file on N64 because after messing up a few runs at the beginning areas it can get really demoralizing to have to sit through a 2 minute cut scene every time you load the game.

Also I got a few ideas about making the game more accessible! feel free to message me on discord when you see this if you wanna talk about it. think you already added me

Anyways cheers man! May 2019 be the year of Quackers!

Its basically project64 except in my experience runs better, generally more reliable and available on more platforms. would recommend getting it through retroarch especially if you run other games through emu

California, USAUI_Jess5 years ago

or using mupen

California, USAUI_Jess5 years ago

if you need a comparison to ntsc I can send a run or two on n64, pc or ps2. usually with older pal games they run slower but I havent seen this yet with quackers

California, USAUI_Jess5 years ago

Yes please. Im also up for separating pc too, but I feel like we need to separate emu.

California, USAUI_Jess5 years ago

Just felt its worth mentioning that with the glitch above its been really consistent to do on N64 emulator but has not worked once on the original cartridge or the pc version

California, USAUI_Jess5 years ago

Chandelier skip is hard man.

Also I don't know if I'm just stupid or not but I haven't gotten the nephew glitch once. are there more videos showing it that can help?

California, USAUI_Jess5 years ago

The half cycle skip in saaampe's video is something I have been implementing into my runs for a while. Its not too hard to pull off but if you mess it up its a pretty steep time loss.

I am not sure if you need to kick for the boost or not. I always thought that kicking while falling down an angled level makes you go faster, but I am not sure if its not just that hes also going down. It does make it a lot easier from my experience to get the boost. I think I have gotten it before without needing to kick. I will look through my archive and try to find if I did.

That or I will practice it at somepoint and see if I can get it
