Raleigh, NC, USAAnother issue with the validity of this run has been brought to my attention. The player uses boss locations placed on a custom island to achieve the boss kill requirements of the run. This is not possible in Stranded Deep except through direct file manipulation of the custom island. There is no way to place a boss location in a world and have it persist through reloading a save or starting a new game other than directly altering the code of the map file by copy and pasting the boss id into the text file that loads that particular island. I don’t think that I need to point out that direct file manipulation DEFINITELY invalidates this run, even for a new category. This run will not be approved for this board in any capacity. The custom% speedrun category will still be made, but it will remain empty until a new run that follows the rules as well as generalized standards of speedrunning is submitted. I should not have to list every possible loophole as a rule for every single run, some of these things should be obvious. File manipulation goes beyond any reasonable exceptions I might make.

As I told him, it is a clear divergence from the entire rest of the runs on the board, none of which use custom islands, and not because we didn’t think of it. Not only is not able to be replicated due to using a custom island, it also uses factors set up outside of the run to alter the entire gameplay of the run. I think a new category is entirely warranted. Yes, I set up the rules, however I also don’t explicitly state that god mode isn’t allowed either, yet I would argue that a run using god mode is invalid as well. Manipulation of the cartographer is essentially god mode for the map. I’m the record holder because I run this game more than anyone else, of which are very few, not because I’m finagling the rules for 1st place. Ask any other runner of SD if I’ve ever been unfair about anything.
Furthermore… sheesh… this is not a glitch he is using. In cartographer mode of sd you can place an island on any island you are not currently on. This is to prevent against obvious issues that would occur if, say, the heightmap of the island is raised above the character. You can make every single island of a world a custom island and when you load that existing world as a new game, you wake up on a custom island. A lot of sd youtubers start games on custom islands. So yeah, new category or bust my dude.

Category types we need: Difficulty, Seed generation (random/fixed), map use, glitch use, and maybe compass or starting crate use. Obviously, that's a lot and there's no point in creating the categories until someone actually does a run in those categories, but I thought I'd throw it out there. In that sense, please put in your description if any of your runs fall into any of these categories.
On a side note, what the hell is the First Night challenge? To beat the game by the first night? To get to the beginning of the first night more quickly? Because both of those are impossible as far as I can tell. Only other thing I could think of is if it's for the fastest time making the first fire?
