Uhhh... so yeah, I forgot to mention that in the original thread and it might be worthy of its own. The in-game timer which gives you its result at the end of the level is... of ambiguous results. It always seemed kind of wonky, but with your improvements a new... bug appeared. It seems when you go below what would in previous runs be around "4 minutes", now with improved runs, loops back again to "4 minutes".

For a better visual, ChargedSquid's RTA 5:16 was IGT 4:08, however his RTA 5:05 is suddenly IGT 4:57. It seems it looped back (and in doing so, got closer to the real time for some reason).

With this I'm thinking of either 'manually' amending this 'error' (?) to say 3:57 and so on. Alternatively I could do it the other way around where I amend runs over RTA ~5:10 and all the times would match better. I could also leave it as it is or remove IGT entirely. What do you guys think?

Hello, I hope both of you Blazy_dude and ChargedSquid see this. I'm quite impressed by both of your improvements to the speedrun of Alter since its... humble starts with me, but I can't deny I see something funny going on.

It's obvious you've both incorporated a strategy of vertically shortening the window of the game on FlashPlayer in order to engage in the conversation earlier than normally possible. I'm not going to disallow that of course, but I am wondering about dividing the category into one which allows this, as FlashPlayer seems the only possible way to play the game as of now, but also have a category which preserves the web spirit of the game by either forcing a specific aspect ratio or ignoring the outside content if not. I was hoping to get your comment on it, what do you think about it.

I'm also thinking of maybe even creating a 100% category once I figure out what that would actually entail (I've never completed the side quests personally).

So guys, whatcha think?

My friend MothFan48 will be hosting a special one off event: Awakening the Cubob, winner gets a £50 steam code. I will co-host. It'll be a speedrunning focused event for this webgame Cubob. You have until 18th of Dec to prepare. More Details and Open Registry: https://atcfgc.challonge.com/ATCUBOB Guide to the Game: Src of Cubob: https://www.speedrun.com/cubob Discord of Cubob: https://discord.gg/yMhfEYvuJd

You are not expected to know this game, it is a very minor flash game from 2011 which saw limited usage on many webgame hosting websites. The tournament will be done from discord of Awakening the Chaos and livestreamed on MothFan48's twitch. Feel free to DM me or MothFan48.

Edit: we absolutely forgot to open registry in the first few hours, this was awkward

due to the unreliable nature of measuring time based on video footage, especially in those frame-perfect levels, I had to delete all the Individual Level leaderboards.

From now on all IL runs need to be played on a version of the game with an in-game timer available in the resources

Additionally for verification purposes it is advised to do the IL runs from a restart rather than the level menu selection.

how can I download this game on a PC, as it says here, it's available on PC and Web

one of the top speedrunners actually bothered to inspect the run for himself on behalf of people who should actually do it, and we are deeply sorry for that inconvenience and hope it won't happen again.

The video was most probably edited, either adding a start of a normal run continued with an accelerated beginning later, or by cutting a few frames at the start (and possibly somewhere else). The suspect was presented with evidence before me and apparently promptly deleted the video, presumably admitting to the accusations.

Under this information, it was necessary to remove the speedrun from the leaderboard either way. Thank you

that specific guide lists best possible times, but for any% it has 0.05, you know, from when that super stupid glitch was discovered, and it's still there for some reason, I don't even remember what was the original time

I have been given a role of a mod to retime all non-obsolete runs I just finished Any%, and due to possible disparities between the timer and actual time, I was forced to also delete runs without an existing video proof. Also videos that start after you enter the game.

We have yet to retime times done on Twitch since they're a lot more difficult.

PolandMaximalMegaminx4 years ago

hi, as I see many of the times are based on what the timer says, this isn't a good way of measuring the speedrun, it's far better to base it on the frames, which with my tools can be done rather easily, some Tampermonkey program + knowledge of shortcuts "," and "." on youtube.

I am a mod in many short flash games so I know some deal about that retiming, if you are interested in making me a mod, be my guest, if not however, I can show you how to download and use this program to measure runs precisely. If you don't want neither, and base it on the timer anyway, that's fine too, but you must keep in mind it'll be imperfect

the lag I experience on my videos (not in game, nor is there a drop in fps on my OBS in that time) is insufferable, I already got 2:10, 2:07, 2:06, 2:05, and even 1:58 but all have a lag so long that you only hear the sound and the first frame of the game is probably somewhere in level 2, if not farther

PolandMaximalMegaminx4 years ago

if I manage to fail level 1 or get a really big lag (which is always), can I simply die and then count time from when I respawn?

PolandMaximalMegaminx4 years ago

I am trying to get the gist of the game but I'm now confused, there's this block that is like the yin-yang symbol, when the black one goes over it or through it, it becomes solid, but for the white one, it takes some number of attempts to make it solid, and that number doesn't seem to be consistent, oscillating from 2 to 4 usually

PolandMaximalMegaminx4 years ago

just an aesthetic thing but the "%"s added at the end of IL categories are kind of useless

PolandMaximalMegaminx5 years ago

How to open some of these categories? Like Multi Mode, what do you do to open it?

PolandMaximalMegaminx5 years ago

Yeah, you screwed the "Miscellaneous" thing, it is done simply by stating in the editing of a category that it is miscellaneous, not by literally creating a category named "Miscellaneous" and adding variables as categories...

PolandMaximalMegaminx5 years ago

Should the time of the run still be what time is displayed (which is backward, so the leaderboard is too for fairness sake) or should I change it to: Time at the start (from which it counts down) minus the time displayed That way, the timer represents actually the time played.

I'm a mod of Seterra https://www.speedrun.com/seterra I wanted to add some level, as there are 340 levels and it wouldn't be as useful as just adding them when someone makes a request. So I was moving up the new level and then noticed that a few levels switched. Naturally, I wanted to switch them back, but it behaved as if some levels were ignored while switching. More precisely I had a configuration ... Poland: Voivodeships, Poland: Cities, Russia: Neighboring Countries, Oceania: Countries and Territories ... I wanted to solve them alphabetically, but when I clicked on Oceania "move up", it just switched with Poland: Voivodeships. After some testing I noticed that there was a chunk "Poland: Cities - Russia: Neighboring Countries", they can't be divided by any way and moving up or down totally ignores them. I tried refreshing the page, turning off and on the computer, on phone, and asked the other Mod. All of which failed. :(

Edit: After some more testing when I tried to move up Russia, it behaved in an even more mysterious way I couldn't understand

Wait, so these levels are normal time timers like if at the start you have on timer 0:40 and at the end 0:11, so your time is 40-11 = 29 seconds. Or is it just 0:11?

If the second one, which would explain why some guy had worse time and is the 1st, then all the level runs should be retimed, because as it is now we are using 'Start time'-'End time' when this isn't the thing here

As I'm moderating the rest of Tasty Planet games it would be sensible to give me SuperMod also here I think, I would add some things
