Paper Planet is currently in a closed beta. The beta can be accessed for free via the official discord server, which the Speedrun.com page has linked. However, if you do not wish to join the server, the following instructions can allow you access to the beta:
1: Open steam, and go to the Paper Planet Demo. 2: Click the gear, and click properties. Go to the Betas tab. 3: Enter the following beta access code: SecretSnoobes 4: Click on the dropdown menu and click Beta
At this point, the beta build should automatically download. Simply play the game, and you have access to a speedrun-legal beta build of the game.
When hints are enabled, you can't skip the level up cutscene. To save time, turn off hints in your settings.
Also, READ THE RULES! We have rejected multiple runs today because they don't follow the rules, mainly that you must show you clicking "New Game" so we can verify that you aren't using a save file.

On October 9th, shapez.io will see its first major content update: Logic wires.
In order to implement them, the game's developer added 8 new levels to the game. He also made buildings at max upgrades about half as slow, but you need less shapes to upgrade. These two things combined will make 1.2.0 runs significantly slower than 1.1.18 runs, and thus we will have to make subcategories for the version you are playing on.
We have a web demo 1.1.18 build in the resources tab. It is currently identical to the current web demo, but without "Buy the game" pop-ups. If you wish to run the game on the web demo, it is highly recommended you play on that version rather than the current web demo. This is also going to be the primary method of running 1.1.18, since it is going to be very difficult once wires drop that you can play 1.1.18 on the standalone version.
Let's talk about that poll we've had up for the past week. Blueprint% won over CopyPaste% by 8:2, even though most current runs use CopyPaste%. For the time being, the category will be named Blueprint% / CopyPaste%. Any% won over Freeplay% by 5:4, and since there currently aren't any Any% runs, it is a much easier decision to just call it Any%.
In the meantime, enjoy the new theming. Speedrun.com default becomes ugly after a while.
Yes, you can use the web demo, but it has flaws that make it worse for speedrunning, such as performance issues that may or may not affect building efficiency, and prompts every 15 minutes that stop gameplay.
https://shapez.io/v/1092975/ is a 1.1.18 demo build (current demo is 1.1.19) that doesn't give prompts. This will be the only easy way to run 1.1.18 after 1.2.0 releases (Oct 9)
We decided that glitches are allowed as long as they aren't game breaking; they shouldn't alter the game's progression. As of now, at least to my knowledge, there aren't any game breaking glitches, so you should be fine.
Internally we are having conflict when it comes to what the categories should be named. Note that in speedruns what you call the category is very loosely enforced, but we have to have something on the main page.
Why do people suggest level 20 as Freeplay%? Technically, freeplay starts at level 19 and is unlocked by beating level 18, so that's why Any% is level 18 beat and not level 20 started/beat.
- New moderators, me and emerald block
- New catagory, Any% where you have to beat level 18
- Finally verified runs, so UKYD wasnt the only runner
UKYD, we have received your dm, but because of account age we are unable to even open the message.
