Is it discouraged to edit your profile a lot?

You mean your profile picture or theme? If we ignore the stupid newsletter/advertisements on the side; this is your personal place on the site, so do whatever you want there that feels comfortable for you.

Ok. It just seemed to me that people don't change their profile themes that much.

I like what I did in my theme, so right now I don't see a reason to change it.
