[Mods] How to Time a Run (with Loads) to the Frame, Using Only Youtube and a Calculator

I thought I should put this in as a guide.

Notes:

* The keyboard shortcut shown should work with any QWERTY keyboard.
* With every video, be sure that you count how many frames are in a second.  Some submissions have had FPS that are not multiples of 30.
* Don't forget to add a frame at the end.
* It should take less than 2 minutes to time any run using this method.

Start frame: 1 minute, 58 seconds, 8 frames
End frame: 2 minutes, 1 second, 5 frames
Total time: (2*60 + 1 + (5+1)/30) - (60 + 58 + 8/30) = 2.933 seconds

This guide shows you how to remove load times from a run.

# Youtube Method

The simplest way to time runs without loads is to use the Youtube-calculator method because it doesn't require any downloads.  (Please watch [this tutorial](https://www.speedrun.com/fg2/guide/9ut5h) on how to use the Youtube interface to time a run if you haven't already.) 

Count through all frames that need to be removed.  At the end, simply subtract the total load time from the time without loads.

Using the YouTube Detailed Timecode user script ( [link](https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/40740-youtube-detailed-timecode) ) should facilitate this calculation.

It takes approximately 8 minutes to time an IL run without loads using this method.  Menu loads tend to be a little more than 1 second, whereas level loads tend to be a little more than 0.333 seconds (10 frames at 30 fps, or 20 frames at 60 fps)

# Video Editor Method

The idea is you download the video from Youtube and use a video-editing software to remove load frames.  I use Cyberlink PowerDirector 12 because a free version came with my laptop, but any software can work.  This method is not recommended (because it's slow), but it allows you to create videos that show a run without loads, like in [the current world record Golf Land run](https://www.speedrun.com/run/y45x4l3m)

## Downloading from Youtube
There are websites that allow you to download MP4 videos from Youtube, but these sites don't let you download in 60 fps.  I use the Firefox Add-On [Video DownloadHelper](https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper) to download from Youtube, and [VLC Media Player](https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html) to combine the video and audio tracks.  Youtube encodes video and audio separately for 60 fps video.

## Editing the Video
Then you edit the video in your favorite video editing software.  Remove all frames that need to be removed.  The software should be able to tell you how many frames the video is.

How to Move Fast in Flappy Golf 2

This is guide shows you essential techniques for efficient and effective movement.  This is mostly geared towards the Any% category, but some of this information can be useful for all categories.

# Flapping 101
Flapping is the main form of movement in this game, as it is the only way for you to directly control the momentum of your character.  Therefore, it is important to know how flapping works.  In short, a single flap will *add* a quantized amount of horizontal momentum to your character and *set* your vertical momentum to a constant value.

This means if you flap three times to the right and three times to the left without touching the ground, you will be going straight up.  Also, if you're falling at any speed, flapping once can effectively stop your fall.  The video below shows good control of momentum, both horizontal and vertical:

# Quick tapping
For certain holes, you must be able to flap very quickly in a short amount of time to be competitive.  For mobile devices, it is advised you put your device on your lap and alternate between left and right pointer fingers.  This way, it is also easier to count how many flaps you do.  To flap 9 times quickly, just count 5 left finger flaps.  The video below shows this technique in action:

Note: At most one finger should be touching the screen at any moment.  You have to lift one finger before pressing down the other finger for both taps to be counted.

# No Bounce Landing on the Green
When you're on or very close to the surface of the green, pressing the left or right flap buttons **will halt all vertical momentum**.  This technique is vital for when you're falling a long distance onto the green.  It's recommended you flap just after hitting the green, because hitting the green will reduce your vertical speed and make it easier for you to flap close enough to the ground. Note that this does *not* stop horizontal momentum.  For certain holes, you will have to flap rapidly in the opposite direction to make sure you don't careen off the level:

# Ceiling Bounces
In some cases, hitting a ceiling is the fastest way for you to start a descent, because you can bounce downward instantly instead of waiting for gravity to reverse your momentum.  In Laser Sub 6, for example, it is essential to use 2 ceiling bounces to make the fastest laser cycle:

# LR Flap
If you flap left and right in quick succession, your character will *maintain* horizontal speed while *adding a fixed amount* of vertical height.  This technique can be useful when you want to control how fast you're closing in on a hole

# Using Optimal Strategies
All these movement techniques don't do you much good if you're not using the most efficient route.  Study the current world records to see the current best known route for any hole.  Note that Individual Hole strategies might differ from Full Level strategies, which might differ from Full Game strategies.

# How to Record a Run

If your video was recorded with the built-in screen recording feature on your device, the video must have sound, and you must have the microphone enabled. If your video was recorded with a camera, make sure the screen is reasonably visible.

# How to Upload Videos to Youtube from your Phone or Tablet

We highly recommend using the mobile site on your device (**not** the Youtube app).  We've encountered issues trying to upload using the app.

1. Go to Youtube.com in the browser on your device (e.g. Safari, Chrome)
2. Press the upload icon in the top right corner of the screen.
3. Tap on "Select files to Upload" and choose the video you want to upload
4. Put in all relevant information and upload.  Do not exit out of the app while it is compressing the video.

# Submitting Your Run to This Site
1. Log into your Speedrun.com account.  Create one if you don't have one.
2. Go to the relevant leaderboard, and press the "Submit run" button.
3. Put in all required information, and submit.  Your run will appear on the site when a moderator has reviewed and approved it.
