We tend to have category/rule changes be based on activity. So if we had a bunch of people doing runs on VC and wanting to submit, we'd have to consider it, but as it is now we don't have enough activity to warrant it.
As noted, VC has LADX 1.2, which is missing most of the glitches we use in every category except Glitchless, so on top of the timing issues VC players wouldn't be able to use most of the routes that exist without using homebrew (which is another bag of worms).
So I dunno, maybe if there's more activity in the future we may be able to add it for the Glitchless boards at least, but it would be more questionable for other boards.
Adding on to Bamboo's comment, my understanding is Switch uses the same emulation as the 3DS VC, which is known to run at different speeds from GBC (I think the Donkey Kong Country community did research into this). That being the case, we don't want to allow these if they'll give people an unfair advantage, and since they use LADX 1.2 nobody has been too interested in testing them out anyway.
We don't allow VC for the boards since it's known to run at the wrong speed.
Howdy, I'm looking to request the removal of a couple inactive mods for The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (the original GB one) -- PackSciences and Flynn. I've reached out to both through SRC messages, and have had no reply so far. I'm not a mod in this particular game, but I mod the other two Link's Awakening games and was also reaching out to an inactive mod for DX (who did reply, and removed themself) -- if you need someone who mods this game let me know and I'll have them post.
Regarding their inactivity:
- PackSciences has been on SRC as recently as February, but it appears the last run they verified was April 2018
- Flynn has not been on SRC in almost two years, and their last verified run is December 2018
Thanks for your time.
Could I please get this board marked as category extensions? https://www.speedrun.com/lasce
The base game board is here: https://www.speedrun.com/las
Thank you in advance
Did you enable the "Miscellaneous" toggle there as well as "Credits Warp"? You'll need both of those, as well as "Split" at the top.
I haven't heard of that being a thing. If you don't mind, you could join our Discord server and give whatever other info you can in #remake-glitches. We have some pretty dedicated glitch hunters who would probably love to figure this out.
There's not likely to be any category like that for Any%, but we've been throwing around the idea of an "All Flags" category which would be like ultra-100% and would not steal. We'll be discussing it soon on the Discord so feel free to join if you want to help craft it.
Check VODs for Baffan on Twitch. He did a 100% run the other day that has pretty optimal chambers, though we only need the first 3 pages done for what we're tentatively using for our 100% ruleset.
As Sam said, SRC only allows mods of other games in a series to request upcoming games.
For now the mod team is a few of the current mods of LA/LADX, but if we're overwhelmed with verification we'll turn to the community for help. Historically this means the admins will talk privately about who they'd like, then bring it to the full community to make sure there's no issues. If you join our Discord and chat a bit, it can help your chances but I can't guarantee anyone for a pick.
Thanks for feedback. I had a harder look at the submission rules and it seems to suggest platform over year, so I went with that (and besides, it feels clearer to me).
@EmeraldAly I'm actually one of the mods for the GB/GBC Link's Awakening games, just not familiar with how other people have handled these kinds of things.
I'm going to be submitting a game request for the upcoming Zelda: Link's Awakening game, and I'm curious what the common convention is for naming games like this that are full remakes.
That is, which of these (or other) is best?
- The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (2019)
- The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch)
That can happen if you open S+Q menu before you finish moving on the pit. You can make it safe by buffering S+Q out of the text box afterwards, or just practice the timing.
Or you can just do the no-shroom route. I'd honestly just recommend that since it's not worth losing runs to this kind of stuff when you're starting out.
Check the 'Emulator Resources' link in the resources section here. It has downloads and instructions for getting everything set up.
GameBoy/SGB2 are actually allowed for LADX. You can't complete 100% (due to Colour Dungeon not being doable on GB) but it's technically allowed. You'd just never have a reason to want to do so.
Only SGB1 and 3DS VC are banned for inaccuracy (as far as official platforms go).
Yup, that's it. Only places I can think of using it are getting into the swamp (for D2), in D3 (skipping a small key to get to the boss) and in D6 (a couple spots on key blocks).
If you hold right+B (shield) after the damage boost but before the owl starts talking, you'll hold shield to the right and "pick up" the sword with the shield.
You can use either bgb or gambatte, provided they're recent enough versions.
I've linked the emulators below, and you can find ROMs and save states in the 'Resources' section if you don't have them already.
