Since there is some activity on Misc, I wanted to make a thread in the event you (active runners) or anybody wants to suggest any fun categories.

I guess this applies to suggestions of "Full Game" as well.

All of you have submitted records to the IL (Level Runs, Events) which happened to be in images, or videos lacking a replay, or videos showing the "Record Log". Your runs were rejected previously because the Rules state that all submissions must show Video Proof (a full Replay or the Gameplay).

Remy and I have decided that everybody can submit records without video, since we understand lots of people do not play anymore, but holded runs they were proud of, so long you follow these few requirements:

  1. You have to show that you are using a real cartridge of the game, and not a Pirate Card, in 1 single unedited video (you show your record, then you extract the cartridge and show it).

  2. Emulator is not allowed. Pirate Cards are not allowed.

  3. Your submissions cannot claim first place with this method, to prevent Action Replay. All 1st Places must submit a typical video, following the standard procedure.

This will be allowed from now on, in the way it is descripted here.

  2. No se permiten emuladores, no se permiten Tarjetas Piratas.

If you want to run against it, here's the sav file. Put it on a Pirate card and send it to your real card as a "Friend Ghost". That way you'll know if you are going faster or not before the checkpoints.

I saw that this game was kinda empty on the ILs. If you want to run Sonic, here you might find the claimed times that will give you something to struggle against

https://www.soniccenter.org/rankings/sonic_rivals/times

https://www.video-games-records.com/en/sonic-rivals-game-g383/best-time-group-g1468/index

I don't know if the Any% beats these times. But they seem worth a while either way. So I considered sharing them

Beijing DS and Vancouver DS online rankings were never recorded. These are the only 2 games which lack the WFC nowadays.

While we do know what were the number 1 records, they were clearly cheated and they cannot be trusted. that's why having a good look to the top 15 positions would give a clear insight on how good were the actual legitimate records of Beijing DS.

Anyone who has connected to the WFC should still be capable of viewing it. So long as you don't connect to the Wimmfi. Therefore, it would be appreciated if you happened to share the WFC if you still preserve your old Beijing card.

If you are curious about it, this is what we know about the records of this game: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1325QEmLXYibLpFNJ_3oEU6Dn7LDxnGhlnt1znyotYfg/edit?usp=sharing

Let it be noted, there is a runner named Super that is supposed to have achieved all of these records on Wimmfi, but it seems so flagrantly fake that we decided to not include them.

Hi I am a guy who made the Guide for Crayon Shin Chan "Flipa en Colores", I want to post any small optimiations that I find here.

  1. Tutorial:

He hecho Copy paste de la Guía en <<Guides>> y le he añadido algunas actualizaciones

Ala, a disfrutar

I thought it might be interesting for some of the top runners to see where they are in comparison to the online Leaderboard. So it might be worth a Forum thread

Edit: I made a more inclusive Table. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MqPLErD0u-VKjMQ5TmSQnMyKuXvNk4xgf_c8h4-qjMY/edit#gid=0

Since the comments inside the runs of the minigames are now disabled in Misc., I want to share a somewhat old comment of mine of the Waluigi minigame (some months ago):

I basically said that you can save up to 3 further seconds in there by performing a glitch. The glitch skips a green bob omb. It consists of throwing a bob omb at the Boss while it has started a "dropping bob-omb" animation.

Fail of 17 seconds (current WR is at 20 seconds):

Also, I think the minigame works like this: the Boss will drop 3 black bob ombs and then transition to a green bob omb, but every time you hit it, it will skip a bob omb in the cycle. So if you hit it before it drops a bob omb, it will skip to the next bob omb in the cycle. This is all intended behaviour.

(Black -> Black -> Black -> Green -> Repeat cycle)

What the glitch does is trick the Boss into skipping a green bob-omb while it drops a black bob-omb. It seems like the next bob-omb cycle starts even before the previous bob-omb in the queue has been summoned. So I trigger the Boss into skipping a green bob-omb in the cycle BEFORE it starts dropping a black bob-omb. As long as the dropping animation has started, even if there is no visible bob-omb in the screen, you can hit the Boss and skip a cycle. It can be seen between the seconds 17 to 20 in the video

Never mind your Cross Country TAS, it's fair that you don't want me to just copy your strats and take the record

But could you share the Alpine Skiing GS TAS? Pleeasee

Can we make this into an speedruning category?

Rules: it's golf but the air runs at 500mph every time

I don't run the game but I do like watching chaos unfold before my eyes

I was playing Ski Cross Racing and a shell hit me from a weird angle, which sent me flying very far away with a more than decent speed

I was thinking that a shell boost might send you flying just far enough to allow you to surpass the out of bounce zones in some races, mainly in SkiCrossR

Either way, getting hit at the end of a speedrun with it might provide more speed than the normal movement, and SkiCR ends with a jump from a high place.

It might be doable in Dream Snowboarding, but if I recall correctly getting hit by a shell just stops you in place all of a sudden. So probably no. It would be interesting to see what happens when a shell hits you while you are inside of a guardrail (boosting from an intersection end with 2 colliding guardrails), since your character would stop inside of it.

I don't know if it is too much to ask, since this game does not receive many runs, but I wanted to ask if the Scrat Levels and Boss Levels could receive their own category, since the Any% run skips them. I love this game and it's one of my favorites since my childhood, but the Any% run comes down to optimizing the movement through 1h straight, and knowing the puzzles takes part of the fun. That's why I recorded a bunch of runs from these specific levels with no puzzles. If the category is not added I will understand, but either way I post this video with a bunch of somewhat optimized runs for anyone who wants to have a good time watching:

Also, I added a glitch from the boss before the final boss. Warning: The video editing is half-assed

Barcelona, CataloniaThe_Challenger992 years ago

Hey, what are your thoughts on adding 1 or 2 more categories? Between the any% and the olympic events, the runs are either very long or very short. DS Leaderboards are also active, so it can be weird sometimes.

Do you want to add speedruns like, 10 casualties SnowCannon Fight, 10 thousand points Dream Biathlon, 20 points Ice Hokey, and such? It's a shame that we are missing on some events like those, tbh!

Jump on every spring of Cubrynth, AllPipes Blithzland, get 10 -20 white stones%. Or maybe dividing the any% in sections, being 1 section every world. You know, because the runs are either 3 hours or 2 minutes long

Get X Badge %, Full Polastraits, AllMissions Frostown (inside the game, or outside the game on the pannel where it shows every mission, your choice, whatever is funnier), AllBobsleightMissions% ...

Which sound more appealing?

They just posted new DS Leaderboards on "Guides". The old system. I thought making a new thread may give it more visibility, since it contains high-scores of sports that cannot be speedrun

I got confused with the nicknames, since you used the DS nicks, srry XD

(Alpine Skiing, Short Track and Skeleton have their times beaten on DS Leaderboards)

Hey

I have been attempting the Brick Skip with the Extra Mushroom and I have realized that it is impossible to do. Either that or stupidly hard. "Why" you may ask. Well...

I have experimented with this for a while. You see, the game checks if your hitbox is overlaping with another item's hitbox (mushroom, shield, brick) every time the timer increases. This means the game will check if you are hitting an object in small increments of time:

The timer only increases in increments of 0.034, or 0.023 if the timer is changing a number from the 0.X00, for example, 14.284 will increase to 14.320. It also increases or decreases the units in which you can gain or loose time every time you perform an action (say jumping, which makes you loose 0.001, or boosting, which makes you gain 0.003), and every time an object enters the screen. This means that you can only gain or loose time in increments of 0.034 and 0.023 + small variations.

This is not that important in this level run, but it is likely that most levels work like that. Also: the weather does not seem to affect the timer

This basically means that you can only skip a brick if you are going soo fast that when the game checks where your character is, you have already gone past the brick. Using the example from before, you have to enter the brick before 14.284 and exit before 14.320. It can be clearly seen in Video 2.

Video 2: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OwUQgPG_0C1o4iVqNe2vkLjD5ioGHYZa/view?usp=drivesdk

By the way, I got it with 356 km/h. Which is a lot. The smallest I've been able to get so far is 300km/h, using BowserJR. I don't know if the characters have different hitboxes (which would make performing the glitch easier with BowserJR than with Bowser), but it would make sense since I've not seen other characters get that "glitchy" mushroom that you sometimes get randomly in some runs.

But if you want to get the Extra Mushroom and do the skip, things get complicated. You see, getting the mushroom is still too random, because the size or position of your hitbox changes somehow when you are going so fast. If it didn't you would be able to get the Extra Mushroom no matter the speed (you cannot get it when going slow, this means your hitbox is modified in some way). If we add the fact that you have to be under the mushroom in a very specific time so that you don't skip it and that you are going very fast to skip the brick, it becomes too hard. Understanding what's going on with the hitboxes may be the best step to follow. If you have any idea on how to make them visible, as you do in Mario Kart and SuperMarios, tell.

I could get the Extra Mushroom even at a Max Speed of 293 km/h (Bowser).

This can be also applied to other parts of the level by the way: The game only allows you to press A, B, or anything other than the Start button, once the timer has increased by these 20-30ish units. That means you can accidentally skip a part where you want to jump, even if you are going at a slow speed, EVEN if you slow the game speed in an Emulator and press A on every frame possible. See Video1. If you are going too fast, you will also be unable to jump where you should have. Then, going at 360 km/h, may suppose a problem, since you are skipping too much space before the game checks if you pressed A or before it lets you jump.

EDIT: Pausing the game (with the button start, which is not restricted to time increases and can be pressed in the first frame every time) makes the game start at the next time increase. For example, if you pause at the first frame the timer got to 14.284 and unpause, the game will start at 14.320. This could be used to TAS the event, since you could control the timer and prevent it from increasing in the middle of a brick, by forcing an increase prior to entering the brick, something out of your control during a normal game. But this has not been tested. I deleted a part of the comment that said that there was a delay of 3 time increases every time you pressed an input, but I realized that was probably the emulator taking a while to render the image.

Video 1: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kafhi4sG5Jzf9YmwJNS3jmWJAMLIbtKv/view?usp=drivesdk

By the way, going at 356 km/h and doing the Brick Skip, allowed me to do the Big Jump of Video1 propperly. I finished 0.100 seconds earlier than the current world record: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CTNYth9xARqd2nT3HjTCsVjUF134zDhQ/view?usp=drivesdk

I will be trying the ""TailsSkip""" and a nice run with only the Extra Mushroom. ATM the fastest way seems to be the Brick Skip. Getting both in a run could be possible. (The TailsSkip is supposed to allow you to fly past the block wall before the vertical wall, but so far Tails bumps into the last brick with a shield, which makes him decrease his speed and land before reaching the finish goal. If it was to be performed, maybe you could get out-of-bounce or prove that the goal as a programmed element extends vertically all the way up)

Looking for a specific speed and a sequence of actions that will get you under the mushroom at the right moment seems to be the easier way, doable by any player on a console. I advice you to attempt the Brick Skip without jumping at the start of the level, using the Extra Mushroom to skip the block. You only need to get the same speed, jump in the same places and boost in the same spots at a somewhat precise time.

SuperSonic Downhill

currently using Desmume to test if it is possible

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-187F01jRkVasuf0eBGxvRFOxlKlXkUN/view?usp=sharing

CLOSEST ATTEMPT: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CBs0ohCH4iByPQgyuAGqhDLPHZSYOxj1/view?usp=sharing

It is completely possible to skip those blocks. You are allowed to hit one, but if you hit two you die. I almost got past the blocks by: having 5 boosts before the hill, using 2 to position myself right past the last block during the big fall. After that, I boost myself with 1 mushroom on land, I jump on flat terrain, and I boost myself with the last 2 remaining mushrooms .

There's a lot of room for improvement and to discover new strategies that use the mushrooms more efficiently. I only tested these 2 characters. I have only tried during a day, but university exams are approaching, so if you wanna give it a try..
