If you join the Discord there is work in the pipeline to discuss emu rulesets very soon so if you want to keep up to date then that's the place to be for announcements etc :D

Either is fine.

You can do trick on english that you can do on japanese provided it doesn't use JP characters in a filename. For instance in terms of SRM tricks both pot chest and butterfly rewards work fine on english.

Pot chest Butterfly rewards

I would advise joining the discord for other questions as reponses will be quicker and more tailored to the answer.

Hey!

Firstly join our discord for some more help: https://discord.com/invite/7FYGh3d we dont usually use these forums too often.

So usually we recommend GSR, Glitchless or Defeat Ganon (no SRM). GSR is around 1 hour 30 and teaches some good fundamentals for most future categories and balances movement with tricks etc. Very easy to get started with, tutorials etc, and all the "hard" tricks can be substituted with easier backups.

Glitchless is a much longer category but is fairly straightforward to get started with, it teaches really good movement going forward but it turns a lot of people off due to its length of close to 4 hours.

Defeat Ganon (no SRM), or old any%, is around a 25 min category with beginner routes available to run. This doesn't really give much in the way of transferable skills but its good if you just want a half hour run you can probably start doing full runs of in days.

N64 is the only console capable of doing ACE in its current format. 1.1 I'm unsure if it would work as the memory address are different and this will affect the heap manipulation setup. As for emulator, you would need to change the recompiler to interpreter for it to work.

Join the discord and some people who are much more knowledgeable will be able to help you further.

Yea definitely join our discord. The US release is identical to the JP release in terms of glitches. The only thing you may not be able to do is the newer SRM stuff because you may need JP characters for things.

GSR, MST and glitchless are the categories currently unaffected by all the SRM stuff rn so I highly advise starting with one of those. Because you have a 1.0 cart GSR is a great place to start. Don't feel intimidated by stuff like superslides. There is a great video tutorial on GSR to walk everything through and you'll get discord support almost 24/7 lol.

The route is extremely new and still in experimental stages. If you need help with the trick or the route I suggest joining the discord for more specific advice.

You need a softmodded wii to play foreign games anyway but now it's a must because the store is also down. There is a video in resources on how to do all this and get set up on wii.

Also join the discord as it's much more active than here :D

Majora's mask is an n64 game but the fastest version is Wii Virtual Console so all runs are done on that. Dolphin is an extremely accurate emulator of WiiVC but has the slight issue that the reset skips much of the classic controller text and spinning n64 logo etc. These things combined with the fact that Dolphin emulates VC perfectly would make dolphin by default the fastest version, something which we obviously don't want happening. The n64 emulators are allowed as these are riddled with problems that would never allow them to be competitive.

Hope that clears it up. TL:DR Dolphin is quick af.

It's more to do with the fact that emulating the game is unofficial. In an ideal world, we would outright ban emulated runs but as a community, we understand that it's a useful tool to get people into the speedrunning scene without any monetary investment. The 10% ban is to allow players to learn and get some respectable times on the leaderboard but if they intend to take it to the top level we insist on official hardware.

Join the discord linked in the resources tab and ask under capture and streaming. More people will be able to help there.

  1. You want to be using the Japanese version of the game which means softmodding your Wii. Again join the discord for all the resources you will need.
  2. To record a run you're gonna need a capture card, the one we usually recommend is the gv-usb2.

The triggers on GC controllers have an analogue area and a digital area. A.K.A. the area where it depresses, analouge, and the area where its just a click, digital. OoT on VC does not utilise the analogue trigger so it only responds to the click and I would advise doing this on PJ64 too.

What you want to do is hold both triggers down to just before the clicking point before you start to map anything, then once you want to map the trigger click the corresponding trigger in. Instead of an axis being displayed it should now be a digital button that is mapped. This what I had to do on a 1st party GC controller but it could be different on a 3rd party I don't know.

There was recently a vote on the ambiguity of the rule in the main No IM/WW that states that no blue warp cs skips would be allowed. The conclusion of the vote was that the main category needed renaming as having arbitrary bans in the name isn't good going forward and does not represent what the category is about.

However as the vote for allowing blue warp cs skips in the category was very close (47% yes to 53% no iirc) the mods decided to create a new category which would be a "true" No IM/WW which only bans those glitches and only those going forward too if something new gets found. The old category meanwhile which is soon being renamed will probably ban anything new that alters the route we want to maintain. It's more confusing now because we haven't decided on a new name for the main No IM/WW so give it a week and there will be no duplicate names anymore.

It's just mashing the c up stick. While being an analog stick it maps to a digital press in game so holding it doesnt repeatedly press it.

Also for future questions I would advise joining our discord as not many people are active on these forums. Link in the resources section.

As far as I'm aware we have no rules about the controller you choose to use on any platform. While I and probably most of the community would recommend a first party controller (and an adapter if required) there is nothing stopping you using anything else. However, I do believe things like turbo etc. is banned so just use some common sense in areas like that. For further questions, I would join the discord because as you can probably tell not too many people are active on the forums. https://discord.gg/7FYGh3d

100% no NSR is fastest on GC I'm fairly sure. Check out https://www.speedrun.com/ootextras that's where the stuff that could be fastest would be.

P.S. if you ran NSR Zfg would love you XD

I assume you downloaded the correct GCT file from ZeldaCodes.org? It needs to relate to that specific controller or the mapping is wrong. Make sure you selected the "classic" from the drop-down menu in the downloads section. Try a redownload and make sure that's done. Even if you're sure you downloaded the correct ones delete them and just try a redownload to be safe. If that fails then join this discord: https://discord.gg/gBxdNGT head to the "softmodding" channel and @Jimmie1717 as he makes those codes and may be able to troubleshoot further.

If the OOT codes work fine then I can only assume you made an error in the file download for MM.

P.S. if you intend to practise OOT see: https://practicerom.com/ as it is much better.

Hope this can help or put you in touch with some people who can help.

That is not true we allow any version to be run on emulator but we ban 1.0 and 1.1 exclusive glitches. Therefore there is no reason to run on 1.0, however, we do not ban the version. With regards to your question, I highly doubt its the ROM version that's the issue. Try re-downloading the emulator as a first and then the ROM as well. If that doesn't work then be my guest and try other versions but the emulator emulates the console and the console has no issue with bottle on B on any version.
