Yeah, I kinda feel similar to Ghoul in that the story stages do not lend themselves to IL runs very well. In addition to what he said, stages are also influenced by prior gameplay, such as drinking in the bar or carrying over items from previous stages, so trying to define rules for ILs would be rather arbitrary.
Not a fan of too many categories unless they really add something. I do not think this is worth adding.
As for your other question, I do not see how that is relevant at all to the topic at hand. This happened months ago. Ghost went against unwritten rules, that were subsequently written down to avoid this scenario in the future. End of story.
Locking this thread. You have my answer.
Several runs? All I am aware of is him submitting a run several months ago to the existing category (which at the time did not have this rule explicitly stated as it was assumed to be common sense), getting caught for it and proceeding to harass a mod for a bit. I am sure you understand that making a category without any real gameplay for this one person would be beyond silly.
Pretty much what Punchy said. Skipping stages would reduce such a run to mash text > skip cutscene > skip stage, repeat. Naturally, there has never been any interest in such a category, hence why it does not exist.
Seeing as the #finalfantasy IRC channel is hardly used nowadays and I and others thought it'd still be nice to have a general instant messaging platform to discuss strats and whatnot, I took the liberty to make us a Discord server.

See you there. ;)
Did you watch TJ's platforming tutorial? I found it very helpful for learning this skip (and the rest of the game).

Of course major thanks to all the organizers and everyone else who made this possible. I'm going to keep the personal shoutouts to a short list and not mention any of the FF people I already talk to on a regular basis, because those guys should already know I love them. Instead I want to give appreciation to some of the great people I didn't (or hardly) know beforehand.
Dizzy, for letting me experience the true terribleness of Chocobo Hot & Cold and for the solid competition in the Kynos% ice cream boat challenge. I look forward to our rematch.
The entire "fighting game room" crew, for continuously encouraging me despite my obvious lack of skill to "PRESS ALL THE BUTTONS!"
RoboSparkle, not only for being a very classy and funny individual, but of course for his incredible enthusiasm in teaching us the Cleyra dance. It's something I was initially slightly apprehensive about, but when I talked to you, you jumped on it with such ferver that I couldn't help but love it.
Alko, for being my lovely dance partner (OH! Also shoutouts to Tingle and Jodenstone for being our background dancers, the latter of whom I didn't even realize was there because I was so busy at the time, until someone told me two days ago who we had as the fifth dancer. Oops!) and for filling the void of FF9 cutscenes with commentary so we could focus on mostly just talking about the run. Very much appreciated!
Lastly, DhrGR, who was the first fellow speedrunner I ever saw in the flesh (at Schiphol airport) and who turned out to be a really great guy. More than anyone else I talked to at the event, you just seemed so happy and grateful to be there, and you definitely brought a smile to my face. Thank you.
We discussed incentives for FF9, and we decided to go with donations for the party member names (as Alko said, 7 character limit), as well as doing the Cleyra dance. Most of the other ideas we had floating around were either done at AGDQ 2013 (sorry, I don't think I can top Spike's acting) or just seemed a bit pointless. Goal for the dance can probably be pretty high since it'll be the major goal for a pretty big run.
Unrelated side note, I know which blind fights MLSTRM is working on for FF13, and I am HYPED to see those at the marathon. :D
Paid for housing + mattress. Usually I sleep on the floor for this kind of thing, but that seems like a bad idea to do for over a week. :P
Definitely sounds like fun. Consider me interested.
Paid. :)
I just got the WR for FF9, with a 9:02:48.

As ESA draws near (assuming the game remains in), Nepf and I will be working on making sure we have our routes synced up and marathon-safe, so even with the considerable amount of RNG in the run we are confident we will be within our estimate.
