[section=General] A Majora's Mask Practice ROM has been made by @krimtonz . This tool is far better than the Gecko Codes previously used.

It features many things such as inventory editing, a warps menu, memory watches and much more.

In that past this was allowed but it is no longer going to be. When you do a run for a specific goal you are doing only that goal.

An example as to what this post is referring to is this: Lets say you do a 10 Heart run. This does not mean you also did a 4 Heart run, a 5 Heart run, a 6 Heart run, a North Clock Town Tree HP run, etc... You only did a 10 Heart run.

Imagine if someone took their 100% run and submitted it to all (or almost all) categories on this board. This is not acceptable.

Any runs up to this point that did this and were verified will be left as is. But for the future all runs will be rejected except the specific one being done. Which will be considered whatever the end goal was or whatever the moderator decides to use.

I've known about this secret area that has 75 vials and 150 spirit points but never how to access it.

I've looked at old walkthoughs and such that say it opens after defeating the first 5 bosses or just once you have the Sword. Neither of those turn out to be the case. Simply having the Torch turned on in your inventory and going down there reveals the secret.

Not sure if anyone else had figured this out yet so I thought I'd make a post.

[section=General] All categories are done from a Race File unless otherwise specified. So make sure to check the rules for the category before you start to make sure you are using the right type of file for it. Any submissions made not using the correct file will be rejected even if nothing advantageous is used in the run.

Using a Race File is done to get right to playing, skipping a long, static, intro.

[section=Race File] A Race File has the following:

  • Magic
  • South Clock Town Heart Piece
  • Ocarina of Time (Equipped to a C-Button)
  • Deku Mask (Not Equipped to a C-Button)
  • Song of Time
  • Song of Healing
  • 101 Rupees in the Bank
  • All Clock Town area entry Cutscenes Cleared

You are allowed to know the Bombers' Hideout and Oceanside Spider House codes for the file in advance.

There are Race Files linked in the Resources section.

I found out it is possible to blow up some tiles that you are normally not suppose to be able to get. Ends up not being useful however due to it taking 7 explosives to go the bottom left route with it, when the intended path optimally only needs 6.

See here.

Jimmie17177 years ago

I made some changes/updates to the Any% route which can be seen here.

The main change is instead of doing "The Game (45)" quest you collect 5 Silver Keys (for two 5 Key Chests that contain 10 Guild Seals each), "The Final Insult (5)" quest, "Restoration (5)", and 15 Guild Seals from interacting with people.

Sub 3:50 should be possible I think.

So DeathBasket and I are planning to do a rematch 100% race since last time he didn't finish and we didn't really know what we were getting into. The race will be on this coming Saturday (28th). It will probably start around 7:30-8:00pm EST since we have saturday night bingo at 6.

If you are interested in torturing yourself feel free to join.

Instead of there being 8 main categories (Any% and 100% for all 4 versions) it could just be setup to where there are just 2 categories (Any%/100%) with sub categories for versions under them.

This can be done with the "extra variables" in the settings. Just make a variable called Version and have it apply to full-game and all categories, then make the list of versions and set one to be the default. Then check the option "use as sub category".

Also as far as I'm aware only the Genesis version is different (because of sprint allowing you to move twice as fast). NES/PC/Gameboy all should be the same unless there's something I don't know about?

I've also done a 100% run on Genesis in 1:00:20

I've moved my codes over to a Google Site instead of using the Google Spreadsheet from before. I'm currently still in the process of moving stuff over and whatnot but for now it should be usable.

Zelda64 Codes is the site.

Each code has it's own page listed under Ocarina of Time (MQ) where you can see some more detailed information on it.

A master list of all the code activators can be found here.

Since ZSR Forums have been messed up for awhile and were even down at one point I figured it'd probably be good to copy this post here.

If you want fast and efficient practice on VC you can download these gecko codes here. Simply drop this file in the "codes" folder on your SD card. To get Gecko on your wii, download gecko here then take the folder named "Gecko 1931" from the zip file you downloaded and copy it to the "Apps" folder on your SD card. There should be a gecko icon on homebrew which you can use to boot up gecko. On gecko go to launch channel, select oot and it should boot the codes automatically.

A nice summary of the button conditional codes can be found here (credit goes to scaramanga for making this).

  • d-pad left to save location 1, R+d-pad left to save location 2. d-pad right to teleport to saved location 1, R+d-pad right to saved location 2.
  • Wrong warp. This code works by allowing you to modify your rupee count which decides your location, the list of locations is here. Once you've set your rupee count (L+dpad up to increase L+dpad down to decrease) to the location you want to go to, you simply walk through a loading zone (or use R+L+dpad down to kill yourself) and hold L+A.
  • Reload area. Press L+R+A+B to reload the area you're in. This can be combined with the wrong warp code to instantly wrong warp you from wherever you are.
  • Soft reset. Press start+L+R+A+B to activate.
  • Save which flags you have triggered by pressing L+R+d-pad left and then load the saved flags by pressing L+R+d-pad right. When you reload the flags the effect usually only takes place after you've passed through a loading zone so you must re-enter the room for the flags to be set back to their initial state (switches you step on are an exception to this, there may be others). If you simply load flags without saving them you will set the flags back to their default value so if your file has already beaten a certain boss you can simply load flags and that boss will no longer be defeated. You can also only load flags in the room you saved them in so if you save the flags in deku tree before breaking the web then you must also load them in deku tree for the web to reappear. Not all flags get saved, I don't think cutscene flags are saved but most flags useful for practice are saved like which webs have been burnt, which rupees you've collected in kokiri forest etc.
  • d-pad up to levitate.
  • d-pad down for a huge speedboost.
  • A+B+R to fall through the floor (useful for escaping cutscenes)
  • R+dpad up to toggle between being adult Link and child Link. The effect only occurs once you pass through a loading zone. The default is set to adult Link so when you first pass through a loading zone, you will always change to adult unless you press R+dpad up.
  • R + L + d-pad down to die (only works when infinite health has been toggled off).
  • d-pad down + R to die to toggle between having infinite health and having half a heart

Here are some codes which don't involve button conditionals:

  • The tower collapse timer is frozen.
  • Able to equip all c-items (for instance megaton hammer as child).
  • Able to use c-items anywhere (set farore's wind outside of a temple for example).
  • Infinite ammo, magic and small keys.
  • Ammo + wallet upgrades and gold scale.
  • Some inventory (like farore's wind, ocarina, hookshot etc.).
  • All songs, stones and medallions.

These codes only work on the Japanese 1.2 version of oot and the codes with button conditionals (like teleporting and levitating etc.) only work with the gamecube controller (or N64 controller if you have an N64 to gamecube adapter) and will not work with the classic controller. Thanks to everyone in the forum for pointing out various problems and providing solutions! If anyone has any requests for other cheat codes please let me know. The text file for anyone who wants to improve / make adjustments is here.

Troubleshooting:

If you have installed gecko but the launch channel option does not appear it is because you need to patch IOS36 with simple IOS patcher. If your wii is not connected to the internet it will complain that it can't find the patched ios to install. Instead, you have to download the ios (here) and place it onto your sd card before running the installer. If you launch the game and it says codes booting yet none of the codes work, it is probably because you have the wrong hook type. Go to config options and set the gecko hook type to default.

I found a way to move screens where you shouldn't be able to. Here is a video of it. This is on Genesis and I haven't tested others yet but I assume it would work on others.

I haven't tested/looked for other places this could be done and where they go so I'll update this once I mess around with it more.

I'm considering doing at least one 100% run of this game. But after doing the math it seems a total of 1,480 doves will be needed to buy all the fruit and items. I don't really see a good place to farm these other than off the first boss but the max you can hold at once is 255. There are several shortcuts as well as the railroad to quickly travel across the world so routing it could be interesting.

I noticed that there are several areas in the shipyard that seem to just give you vials as long as you are in the area. I'm not sure why? I looked for areas that possibly could give doves like this too but didn't find any. It doesn't seem like a glitch but who knows. Maybe somewhere it's hinted at by an npc.

Edit: Seems there's a secret room in the Lost at Sea region that gives full doves/vials. But it can only be used once.

Here is an initial route I made.

Is there a reason only the NES version is listed? This game was also released for PC and Sega Genesis. I've done a few runs on Genesis. My best time as of this post is a 12:56, video here

I guess I should note that my run was done on console. When looking around for roms to play on emulator and mess around I only ever came a cross roms that seem to be 1.0. The cart I bought also ended up being 1.0 so my guess is that there is only a 1.0 version for the Genesis.

Jimmie17178 years ago

I was going through runs on the leaderboard and getting the in-game times. If you want to see them go here.

[section=General] Finally just made my own site for the codes so the Google site is not going to be maintained. The main thing about the new site is that there is a Code Database with all the codes listed. This allows anyone to change the activators to whatever they want.

The site is ZeldaCodes.org.
