Needing a file that's beaten the game just so you have the character select screen to start time on shouldn't be a thing

Why would the categories need the same timing? They're different categories, so the timing doesn't have to be the same. If anything, for Any% starting on pressing New Game is more consistent since you don't get the character select on a clean file.

@Tristan It would be helpful to specify timing on the leaderboard rules

Hey, I'm planning to try to pick this up in April, is it okay if I run on emulator for the time being? I don't mind if it doesn't show up on the leaderboard, I just want to know if emu is allowed. It's temporary until I obtain DS capture tools, which I'll be saving up for in the future.

Ones I can come up with and want to run in the future, but can't right now:

Mario Party Decathlon (1-10, So basically Octathlon + 9 and 10) N64 Trilogy (1-3) GCN Quadfecta (4-7) Wii + U Duathlon (8-9) <-- maybe not the best, but it fits the console collections mentioned above.

The main reason Category Extension boards exist is because the main leaderboard would have way too many misc categories, and imo sm64ds doesn't have a boatload of side-categories so any new ones can still reasonably go on the main leaderboard

Good idea, @starsmiley. If the sheet gets a lot of traction it could convince the mods that Category Extensions is a reasonable thing.

There's not really any strats for it. You just kinda have to follow the route from your pipe, knowing the chest will take every side pipe it encounters.

Why not? It's part of the sub-series, as I pointed out earlier. Seems a little weird to exclude NSLU just for that reason.

It kinda sucks that I can only capture NSMBW at the current time. I will start running this once I can capture the other 3 systems.

I'm not sure. To my knowledge NES Classic (and SNES Classic) is banned for most, if not all games due to inaccurate emulation. An active Ninja Gaiden runner told me this when I spoke to him in person.

This thread is old af, but I definitely think an SM64DS Bingo is viable. There's enough differences to the original imo for it to have its own bingo. Stuff like Unlock All Characters, All DS exclusive levels, Get star as character, Get x amount of stars in stage as character, All Silver Stars, All Switch Stars, and plenty more I'm sure others can come up with, on top of what SM64 bingo goals can also be used for DS.
