[ES] Guía para configurar BizHawk emulator para speedrunnear Metroid Fusion

Si quieres aplicar con RTA en Emulador, estos son los requisitos:

Bizhawk con el núcleo de mGBA y firmware correcto será necesario. También es necesario mostrar la versión de Bizhawk. Si cualquier otro emulador es usado, no podrás aplicar RTA, solo In-game Time (IGT). Obviamente, video de la run es requerido. Al principio o al final de la run (recomiendo al final, cuando el juego ha mostrado ya el temporizador in-game), todo esto debe ser mostrado:

1) Núcleo mGBA seleccionado (en la barra de estado o en la configuración, las dos valen)
2) Firmware correcto seleccionado (asegúrate de que es el mismo que el que voy a mostrar en el vídeo abajo)
3) Que versión de BizHawk es usada. Casi todas las versiones van bien, pero 2.4 y 2.3.3 están baneadas. Usa la más nueva a ser posible. (Puede ser encontrado en Help > About)
4) A parte de todo lo de arriba, un soft o hard reset tiene que ser visible al comienzo de cada run para evitar uso de savestates o parecidos que puedan cambiar el RNG de alguna manera.

Esto es bastante obvio pero utilizar savestates, pausar el emulador o aumentar la velocidad del mismo está PROHIBIDO. 

Si alguno de esos requisitos no han sido cumplidos, la run será denegada. Queremos ser muy estrictos con tiempos RTA de emulador.

Ce guide est valable à la fois pour Metroid Fusion et pour Metroid: Zero Mission.

Si vous souhaitez soumettre un temps RTA réalisé sur émulateur, voici les conditions à suivre :

Bizhawk est le seul émulateur autorisé pour le RTA. Si tout autre émulateur est utilisé, vous ne pouvez soumettre que l'IGT (In Game Time). La bonne firmware ainsi que le core mGBA doivent être utilisés. Une vidéo de la run entière doit être fournie. Avant que la run ne commence ou après que l'IGT final d'après les crédits soit affiché, ces paramètres doivent êtres montrés :

1) Le core mGBA doit être sélectionné (Pas besoin d'être montré si vous jouez sur Bizhawk version 2.5 ou plus)
2) La version de Bizhawk
3) La bonne firmware doit être sélectionnée (La série de lettres et de chiffres doit être visible)
4) En plus des éléments évoqués précédemment, un Soft Reset (Appuyer sur A + B + Start + Select) ou un Hard Reset (faisable depuis l'onglet "Emulation" de Bizhawk) doit être visible au début de la run

Il est interdit d'utiliser les fonctions de l'émulateur (Sauvegarder / charger une save state, mettre en pause, accélérer, etc.) durant la run, cela inclus les crédits, même si le timer ne tourne plus. Cela vaut même si vous ne soumettez pas le RTA.

Si l'une des conditions évoquées n'est pas respectée, la run sera rejetée.

Alternative Sector 2 SA-X skip strat

This strat is a little slower than the normal springball strat for skipping SA-X, but I'm submitting it here just in case anyone is looking for an (in my opinion) easier strat for skipping SA-X.

The video shows the two most common outcomes of using this strat: either you have to spring ball jump over one beam, or three beams. It depends whether you get the morph ball bounce or not. Sometimes you'll get something inbetween if you're slow to move left, but you should never die if you get the first part of the strat. 

How to do it: 

- Start running right the moment you fall into the room
- Be sure to break both blocks (if you only hit the far right one, don't worry; just hit the other as you're falling)
- Shoot one beam in the direction of SA-X (doesn't matter if it hits or not)
- Run right
- Jump right as she's about to shoot her beam, and HOLD A for the entirety of the jump (the idea is that you want to jump as high as possible, feel free to let go once you start going down)
- Do a small wall jump past her as soon as she is just about to end her turn around animation. It's recommended you find a good visual cue for this: either aim for a specific spot, or look at what SA-X does. 
- Morph and hold left. If you get the morph ball bounce, you have to jump over three beams (which is very easy); if you don't, you should be able to go fast enough that you only have to jump one beam.

Hello all, I figured with one any% tutorial being out of date, and JRP's being really lengthy and advanced, I'd make a more beginner level tutorial. I tried to cover a wide range of things including doubles on core-X's. Anyway, hope this helps!

08/08/20 UPDATE - I've finished the extended Any% NMC tutorial. This tutorial provides alternative room strategies, in-depth boss fight descriptions and strategies and extra item locations that can be picked up when first learning to make runs a bit more safe. I designed the tutorial as one might do segmented practice for runs. I designed it this way to line up more with traditional practice and to be able to provide more information per area. Feel free to leave comments on the videos for questions you may have and make sure to check the comments to see if there are any questions in the comments that have been asked and answered previously. The first part of the setup is saving as you leave Sector 1. The door on the right must be the last door used before saving. If you accidentally enter the navigation room, you have to run back to the recharge room first, so you can enter from the right side. Do not save at any other point in the run. Saving here sets up one of the memory corruptions.

The second part involves breaking blocks in Sector 4. Make sure you break the same blocks as shown in the video. Breaking the last two missile blocks sets up the other memory corruption. After this point, you don't have to worry about which blocks you break.

After getting power bombs, return to the large room with wavers and enter the door on the bottom right. Keep re-entering the large room until the waver spawns facing left. After it bounces back toward the right, jump while it's at the peak of its arc, letting it slam into the wall. Freeze it, then quickly get into the exact position shown in the video. Once you're lined up, lay a power bomb, and do a spin jump into the corner. Turn around and hold left while the power bomb goes off. If you don't go into the ceiling, you were probably too far away from the wall. You can re-enter the room and try again.

Once you're out of bounds, morph, then hold left, then hold A. At this point, you need to count the number of times you see the morph ball cross the screen in the top-left corner. Right before you appear on screen for the 4th time, lay a power bomb. If timed correctly, it will set the area ID in the save data to 0, meaning you'll spawn on the Main Deck. Because the door value stays the same (the one you used in the save room), it will spawn you in the destroyed hallway.

Right before you appear on screen for the 12th time, lay another power bomb. If timed correctly, it will set the event value to 128 (based on the setup done in Sector 4 earlier).

If you want to be really safe, stop a bit early, lay a power bomb, move a few blocks, and lay another one. Do this two or three times for each one.

Shortly after you appear on screen for the 16th time (not immediately after, give it a couple extra bounces), start holding right. This is necessary to make it back in bounds. If you stop bouncing and you're not back in bounds, you're softlocked and you'll have to reset. Once back in bounds, reload the game by dying. Soft-resetting the game will not work. If you spawn in Sector 1 and not in the destroyed hallway, you mistimed the first power bomb. However, the event value may still have been corrupted, so you can still head toward the ship to beat the game. To check if the event value was corrupted, you can pause the game and press A. If you see German text, then it was successfully corrupted. If you spawn in the destroyed hallway, but it reverts to the pre-destroyed hallway when you re-enter from the left, then you mistimed the second power bomb. In this case, you'll have to try again from the save in Sector 1 (or just completely reset if you're aiming for a competitive time).

BOB skip for 0% runs

Necessary for 0%.

Skipping BOB, or the thought-to-be-mandatory missile tank in sector 3 before the BOX fight, can be done in two ways.

There's the old fashioned way, storing a speedboost and making it all the way up to the vine that can be shinesparked through. Only has a few frames of leeway and you probably needs to pause buffer a million times to have a decent shot at it (video by Biospark):

Alternatively, there's the much easier way to do it now, discovered by ZX497 in 2016, that involves briefly going out of bounds. Can be seen here:

Keep in mind that the out of bounds skip is ONLY possible on the US and EU versions (even the re-releases), but cannot be done on any Japanese version of the game (and probably not on the iQue version either, since it seems to be based on the JPN version).

Out of Bounds Guide (ENG only)

There are several places where clipping OOB can save time (both RTA and IGT, but often more RTA than IGT) on the English version of the game. To clip, one must first get on top of a frozen enemy (or any enemy-like object that Samus can instantly land on without a shot cancel, such as a kihunter cocoon or kago)  right up against a wall and less than a handful of pixels from a ceiling, or stuck inside a reforming block. Note: getting stuck in a respawning block does not work on the JP version as Samus is forced into a morph if her head is stuck in a block, or the block will break if Samus is already inside it. Getting on top of the enemy sounds simple, but can be very tricky depending on the layout of the room and the hitbox of the enemy. If the ceiling is high up, freezing the enemy without either being inside it already or able to get inside it via a ledge climb can cause it to be inaccessible from directly below. This can be dealt with in two ways: damage boosting into the enemy and freezing it while inside it, and using unmorph spinjumps (will be addressed later) to move yourself towards the wall. Neither of these are very viable during a speedrun unless you are very consistent at them, given that you only have a short amount of time before the enemy thaws (demonstrations of these methods shown after the next section).

The actual clip can be done one of two ways.

The first (and more difficult) is to do an unmorph jump, done by morphing and quickly unmorphing before the morph animation is finished, and then jumping before the unmorph animation is finished. After jumping, hold away from the wall and Samus will be sucked inside it. There is about a 5 frame window for this method. Note: on the JP version, the morphing animation cannot be interrupted, so this will not work. If you get the unmorph jump but do not press away from the wall in time, Samus will fall through the enemy.

The second and far easier method is killing the enemy (if it can be killed). On the English version, killing an enemy while on top of it pushes Samus upward about a quarter of a block. Doing this while up against a wall and near the ceiling, you can get sucked into the wall by holding away from it, just as in the first method. If this method is how you are planning on getting OOB, you should either position the enemy in a way that you can kill it with a beam or charge flare next to a wall or lay a power bomb before getting into position

Note that for the second, Samus must enter a spin jump at the peak of her jump.

Navigating the Out of Bounds:

Whenever you are either OOB horizontally or Samus' head is stuck in a ceiling the game will always move you one block (sometimes two depending on your position) backwards relative to the direction you are facing whenever you hit the ground (except in some circumstances, such as being technically within the bounds of the room but in an unaccessible location). If Samus morphs in either of these circumstances, she will stay morphed unless you interrupt her morphing animation with an unmorph, however, morphing is the most convenient (and only) way to move upwards in the OOB, so that will be used in nearly all instances of OOB movement. Jumping while morphed will move Samus exactly one block up and one block backwards and changing the direction Samus is facing will move Samus one block opposite the direction you press (only if Samus is not crouched--she is not able to move while crouched). Everything directly above or below the room is empty space and cannot be traversed in the same way.

After successfully clipping OOB, morph and hold towards the in bounds. Now, if you continue moving in this direction you will completely wrap around the screen horizontally and nearly completely vertically and end up right below the bottom of the room and will start falling down until you hit the top of the room, so this loses much more time than you would initially save (as it takes about a minute to get in line with the room vertically and about as long to fall all the way down and another minute to OOB your way back in bounds); however, if you change directions at the right time, you can end up back in bounds at the height you want to be. The timing is a little different depending on how high you need to go, but it is about halfway up that height that you want to turn around (if the wall is straight). Done correctly, Samus will pop back in bounds where you need to be, or even right into the door to another room (note that you can only (quickly) reach a door from the OOB if you clip on that same wall).

If for some reason you wish to only move horizontally, you would need to chain together multiple unmorph spinjumps. These are done in very much the same way as unmorph jumps, except that you hold the direction opposite the way you want Samus to move during the jump instead of after jumping.

=== Practice ===
Without the luxury of save states practice on console can be a little awkward. I strongly recommend investing in a flash cart; this will let you utilise a number of ROM hacks that are invaluable when practicing.

  • Debug menu by interdpth (https://www.speedrun.com/patches/InterdpthFusionDebug_sa2pd.ips)
    • The debug menu is your new best friend. The quick save feature lets you save absolutely anywhere you want. Now to practice Omega Metroid, instead of having to load the game, fight SA-X, escape, and fight OM you can save your game right before fighting it. The debug menu also gives you the ability to change the event number you're currently on. This is incredibly useful since you no longer have to play through the whole game just to get to that one place you want to practice - just set the event and you're on.
  • Skip loading fanfare by tupto (me!) (https://www.speedrun.com/patches/noload_g2vyd.ips)
    • The only annoying thing about the debug menu is having to wait through the games loading fanfare every time you reload your save. This hack simply makes it so you don't have to wait around and can get right into the action. This hack is a little buggy in that sometimes the games main menu music continues to play even after the game has loaded. If you find a consistent setup for this bug, please ping me (@tupto) in the discord and if you're lucky I'll fix it.

Sadly there's no way to record footage directly from your GBA so you'll need to record using a capture card connected to a GameCube with a Game Boy Player attatched. The original software disc used for the GBP is difficult to come by and quite expensive these days. Luckily for us Extrems' Game Boy Interface software (https://www.gc-forever.com/wiki/index.php?title=Game_Boy_Interface) is an amazing alternative that actually runs better and gives a nicer display output than the original. In order to run GBI you will need a GameCube Action Replay disk or an SD Media Launcher disk as well as a GameCube memory card with an SD slot. You can find more detailed installation instructions in the link above. At this point you should now be able to play Game Boy on your TV - hooray! But we're not finished just yet. If you're playing on an HD TV you may notice a few frames of input lag. This can be avoided in a couple of ways. The first is simply to play on a CRT but it's 2019 and nobody uses those anymore. If you want laggless input to your HD TV, your best bet is to run your GameCube video output through an Open-Source Scanline Converter (OSSC). This bit of kit takes the RGB input you feed it and outputs it through HDMI in a fraction of a fraction of a second. The OSSC also has some nice scaling options so you can play Game Boy in glorious 1080p (with a bit of letter-boxing). From here you've just got to hook it up to your capture card and TV and you're good to go!

== Additional Recording Notes ==
  • For the best picture quality use either a properly shielded RGB SCART cable (you can find these on retrogamingcables.co.uk) or find an infamous GameCube component cable.
    • Unshielded cables often experience interference that leaves a checkerboard pattern on your image.
  • The speedrun edition of GBI occasionally produces screen tear. For this reason most runners use the high fidelity edition.
  • Both GBI and the GBP disc allow users to use their GBA as a controller using a GC-GBA adapter. Press and hold START + SELECT when you turn on your GBA to connect it to the GameCube.
