PewDiePie's Speedrunning Video

I like Pewds, but he seems to be using old videos and highlighting the cringe that speedrunning started with. I think that side of speedrunning has changed, but clearly those who may not know much about speedrunning still see it this way.

What do y'all think about the video?

I definitely enjoyed wtaching it, but I feel like he couldve shown some good moments of speedrunning (like when people where super happy about achieving a certain time/wr or something)

Good video but the Goose clip is a bit awkward since that rant was brought on by his mom being diagnosed with cancer iirc

:-( poor goose.

France

Whatever, clearly.

Considering him with this video or anyone else telling me that what I'm doing is degenerate is free timeloss I'd like to avoid.

Didn't watch. Stop caring about what others think, especially when they know nothing about the subject.

I care what a million viewers will think about the community -- Honestly I'm hoping one of our own YouTubers like EZScape responds to him. But I guess it doesn't matter much, you're right :D

Agree with @Komrade. Let people say what they want to say; people will make up their own minds. If that's what his viewers enjoy, I don't see a reason to keep them from their enjoyment.

Part of gaining popularity is that people will make fun of you; how we choose to react to it shows far more about our character than one little video can. Being able to make fun of ourselves and laugh along with those that make fun of us is a sign of maturity.

EDIT: I'm not sure if you watched the whole video, but he's actually giving us a lot of respect

The "speedrunning community" is too large and diverse between games alone for there to be any real concern about how it's viewed. Someone on the outside looking in might not see any part of the "community" outside of a handful of popular games: OoT, SM64, etc.

what I think is funny about this is that you can do it with any hobby. Why play music? you most likely won't get famous or rich! why write poetry? nobody reads that anymore? why watch sports? what benifit can you get at all? why do anything? the answer to all of these is the same. I LIKE IT! I think we all, or at least most of use, know we are not going anywhere in life because of speedrunning. we do it as a hobby to help us with our shitty lives, or to relax, or whatever.

My dad asked my why I play the same game over and over? I answered him with "why do you tear apart you motorcycle over and over?" I think he understood then.

I know that @MrRacingmonster made a video to show his way of thinking about the Pewdiepie's video (I suppose).

The only thing worse than caring about what others think is caring about what others think about what others think.

I like how theres a random dota rage clip in the video that's not even related to speed running at all. This was linked on the speedrunning subreddit and after I watched it all I could think was "Why did I just watch a pewdiepie video because reddit told me to?"

I like how he only shows the raging minority of speedrunners and not the better majority..

I like how I can make macaroni and cheese basically whenever I want. Also, cinnamon rolls. They come in prepackaged little dough hunks and they're delicious.

@SpiderHako

Don't they all do that on YouTube? I mean that is a surefire way of getting views quickly so...
