Hey @Frost20! I've played the game through a couple of times (took me several hours and looking at hints the first time). I kind of just remembered what I did last time - I know that's no so helpful at the beginning when there are so many options!
As I started to build out my route, I figured that having the minimum amount of items in my inventory has several advantages; 1) Less time item-switching. 2) Can skip lots of items and sequences in the game (eg, the dart, the batteries), but to your point, 3) This makes it easy to remember what is next!
If you have the Fuse and the Knife for example, at the beginning of the game, you kind of remember that you need to do the plug next/soon. For example, at the moment I go into the kitchen, get the salt, knife, fuse and hot water, go back to the ice tunnel, and use the hot water to get the key - but before I use the key, I go back into the kitchen to do the TV plug, so I don't have to hold the fuse anymore.
I made a map of all the "rooms" as well - see the guides section. Maybe that helps you remember what room is connected to which.
