Cave Digger 2 Speedrun quick guide 

Hello Rookies, Miners, and Minettes! 
Here is a quick guide on my speedrun experience in Cave Digger 2.
Credit also goes to the Discord community member Bakon Dude for going through the speedrun with me.  

For reference, I used Oculus 2 in PCVR.

tl;dr: 
1. Buy scanner and map ASAP with starting money 
2. Earn money fast by doing scanner errands. 
3. Get to the other levels ASAP since they pay x2 
4. Get to the Eerie ruins with upgraded dynamite and shovel and find the object for the ending at the end. 
5. Come back to Basecamp, buy the shed, insert the object into the machine, and end the game. 

It took 1 hour and 24 minutes for a complete run for reference.

More detailed version:   

So, the setup. You have to start this as a fresh save, so you'll have to either delete or move the previous save that was there. If you're using Steam, I recommend you disable the cloud sync so you can be sure that your save is on the cloud and that the new one doesn't get uploaded in case you forget or the save file gets currupted. 
Here is where your save file should be on your computer: 


C:\Users\<Your_user_name>\AppData\LocalLow\Mekiwi\CaveDigger2\CD2SaveData.save

Since you have to start in a fresh save, you'll have to get through the tutorial. It takes a few minutes to complete the tutorial and I haven't found the way around it. However, after the first proper dungeon that you've opened the vault of, you will have around 550 cash to your name. With this money, buy the scanner and map. If you don't have enough, gotta go down the mines to get enough. 

After buying the map, there will be errands that you can complete on the right side of the board. The board is located on the left side of the mine shaft. Keep getting the errands and deleting them from the errands tab in the menu until you have the desired errand, which is to **find the curiosities with the scanner or to kill 5 enemies**. There are 3 types of these missions. Finding one curiosity, two, or three curiosities. Finding one is the best since all the missions give the same amount of money regardless of how many you can find. Likewise, killing enemy missions is similar, but other missions than killing 5 take too long to be worth it. 

To travel quicker, use the bunny hopping method by laying low on the ground and mashing the jump button. This works best when you're on a flat surface. 

Once you have enough money to buy the next area (500$) buy it and go do the same errands there. The missions there will pay twice as much with the same tools so it's a priority. You do not need to buy the mine shaft already even if you need to get down to them. Do the same to the 3rd level to get to the 4th level as soon as possible. 

Now it's a bit tricky on the 4th level since there are many vertical movements that will consume time significantly if you climb up manually. So at this stage, I bought a shovel to travel around to find the object as soon as possible. They pay significantly more so it's doable just by doing a couple of good errands. 

Once you have enough to buy all the mine shaft in maps 2, 3, and 4. Visit them at least once (until the shaft hits the bottom or when the crank doesn't crank anymore). Finally on the 4th level, don't exit on the 1st level and just keep going by jumping through the enemies to reach the 3rd level and gain the purple object that's floating in the air beneath the alien monument. There will be a safe where you can solve the riddle or open it up with dynamite, but it's not needed anymore at this point. 

After acquiring the purple object, go to the base camp map as soon as possible. Buy the cabin, and insert the purple object that's on the table into the machine above the fireplace. Follow down the stairs, and jump down the hole. You'll notice a huge door. Light the blue glowing plants and when the door opens, crank the red cranks at the either side of the button. After cranking them all, press the button in the middle and see the ending. When the credits appear, end the timer. 


Full disclosure, this is my version of the run but it can and will be much more improved by you!
