First I wrote down all of the solutions to each light pattern:

Then I memorised the solutions using these rules...

• For any light pattern where there are only bottom lights on, just flick all switches from left to right, and it will work every time.
• If none of the lights are on, flick all but the third switch
• For any other pattern, treat the 4 lights like they correspond to the 4 switches, and flick the switches for lights which are off (e.g. for this light pattern: 10/00, flick all but the first switch).

Try using flashcards as well to help memorise the patterns.
