As we all know, NFS: HP mobile was removed from app stores in 2019, so anyone who hadn't bought it was no longer able to acquire it legally. That, in combination with changes to the way Android treats .apk and .obb files (i.e. cannot install specific game files without root access) has made the game extremely difficult to start running on mobile platforms.

My question is if emulation is allowed in the existing categories and if new categories will be required in order to make things fair.

I've played on Nox Emulator (Android 7) for the last couple of days using the latest version of the game (2.0.28) and as far as I could tell, there are a couple differences that could separate the two categories:

  1. Tilt controls are obviously different as you emulate tilting via key presses. Personally I found it more difficult to be smooth using the key presses which is a time loss, however it removes the difficulty of the screen orientation constantly changing.

  2. There is a bug on emulator (not sure if it's present natively as its been a while since I played on ios) where when you use the boost, the car turns sharply to one side, which has resulted in significant time loss in practice runs.

I haven't noticed many frame rate differences compared to native runs, however there has been some stuttering at points on emu.

Anyway, if anyone sees this, please let me know. I'll stick to streaming unofficial runs in the meantime.

I do speedruns of extremely niche games with small communities because all the games I'm good at fall into that category haha
