Jumping and down-attacking seems like the only consistent way to kill them without getting hit by the explosion, so just running up, doing the attack quickly, and hoping they don't move before the attack lands seems like the best way. I'm pretty sure it's also faster to put points into force push than pull in a run, so I'd consider force pulling a worse option.
