When you say control are you pressing ctrl on your keyboard? This might be causing the emu to do some unrelated function. I’d advise against having ctrl mapped as your select button or any button for that matter.
You want to press the buttons you have mapped for “Up”, “B”, and “Select” all at once on either your keyboard or gamepad. If you do this on the title screen it will prompt you to clear save data.
Though SGB2 is allowed, rng manips will not work properly on SGB2. If you have a PC, emulator is a great option. If you prefer console, then yea you want a Gamecube with the Game Boy Player attachment - then you need to either setup Game Boy Interface software for the best quality output (GBI-SR) or you need the official disc (GBP). You can typically find a gamecube with the GBP attachment w/ no disc included and then follow this guide to setup GBI-SR https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_L4Fq1oTLlR2rNgW0jC3hddr0uFb3ezNIQQohE4uTwc/edit?usp=sharing
No, sorry - 3DS itself does not accurately emulate red/blue anyway so it is instead a category extension https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnrbext?h=3dsvc-any-glitchless&x=5dwzp9nd-ql6yr9w8.ln834rjl but even to be eligible for this leaderboard you would need to be playing on original unchanged hardware on a 2DS or 3DS. Unfortunately, the games are not even available for purchase anymore on 3ds so i don't think there is much of a future prospect for gen 1 and 2 having active leaderboards for 3ds - this is just my opinion, and ofc anyone who wants to speedrun for fun on any platform should totally just do that cause why not :)
No, only gambatte-sr https://github.com/pokemon-speedrunning/gambatte-speedrun/releases or gse https://github.com/CasualPokePlayer/GSE/releases/tag/v0.3 are allowed w/ a gbc bios.
The mobile emulator https://t3boy.vercel.app/ has been allowed for a trial period just pay attention to the rules and/or join the discord to double check. And GSE is a relatively new and updated version of gambatte https://github.com/CasualPokePlayer/GSE/releases/tag/v0.3 - GSE should work on Android. Otherwise either GSE or Gambatte work for PC. Other emulators are just not accurate enough or have debug features that are not ideal for enforcing leaderboard rules.
Hey, you can find the patch here: https://github.com/gifvex/pokered/releases/download/aaaa/redblue-aaaa.ips
The best option on Android is the latest release of GSE (currently v0.3) https://github.com/CasualPokePlayer/GSE/releases/tag/v0.3 on GBP mode, with a GBC bios image. If GSE does not work on the device, then the relatively new mobile GB/GBC emulator t3boy https://t3boy.vercel.app/ with a GBC bios image is accurate and allowed on the leaderboard currently for a trial period.
You will need to get the GBC bios and the game itself on your own. We are not allowed to provide any help regarding this.
Hey Griffon and Golderzoa, I recommend asking in the PSR Gen 1-3 Discord in #rb-category-extensions to get an answer faster. I linked this thread there a couple days ago, but join or rejoin and follow up. SRC forums tend to go unnoticed and all communication is really done on Discord now for PSR and there are also a lot of helpful resources on Discord so that’s a plus:
Should just need to react in the rules section, then you're able to access the channels in discord.
Hey, you will likely get an answer much faster if you join the PSR Gen 1-3 Discord and ask there instead. Forums on SRC are not used as much anymore. It is linked at the top of this page beneath "Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen" and next to the link for Category extensions.
Hey, so depending which emulator you chose to download this may look different.
In the video, Alan is using Gambatte-Speedrun <PSR> r717 with a GBC Bios image. If you hard reset using Ctrl + R or the button/key you mapped to hard reset, then good ROMs for red will display "Reset r717 9F7FDD53". The other indication that your ROM is correct for any PSR game is that the top border of the emulator will read: "FileName.gbc <PSR> - Gambatte-Speedrun (r717)". If the "<PSR>" does not show up then you either have a bad ROM or you downloaded the generic version of Gambatte instead of the Speedrun Version. These images can be used as reference: https://imgur.com/a/fda9PjP & https://imgur.com/a/PJupxlt
If you chose to use the new GSE, then just scroll down on each imgur above and you'll see that the checksum displays at the bottom border instead. By default no string shows up upon hard reset on new GSE. You must either capture the bottom border for the entire run or you can disable the bottom border in settings, which will then cause the string to show up on hard reset.
If this does not answer your question, please join the Discord https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnredblue/forums/se2sp and post a picture/video in #emulator-help and we are happy to help troubleshoot. (Please note that if your ROM is faulty, then you are on your own to find a good one since we cannot assist with that on SRC or on Discord)
Yes, after attempting the manip for the TID you will need to obtain a starter. Then checking starter stats will display your TID.
GL!
Typically - yes this is allowed. I suggest joining the PSR Discord to get questions answered quicker and gain access to more resources: https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnredblue/forums/se2sp
You may want to move this post over to red/blue category extensions (https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnrbext/forums). If you complete a run and have a well defined ruleset, then you can post the run in the same thread you start there and it can be considered to be added as a category extension. I am not too involved with glitched categories, but you may also get a quicker response on the psr discord (https://discord.com/invite/dRpzCBJsSM) if you have questions. That being said - sounds like a neat idea!
While this is a neat and funny idea, the game doesn't properly explain that over-leveled Pokemon only disobey if they have been traded to you (either from another game or an in-game-trade). The gift Charmander has you as the OT in Yellow, so it will not disobey even if you overlevel it.
Hey there, this forum isn't used too much anymore. You're more likely to get a reply on the Gen 1 - 3 Pokemon Speedruns discord here: https://www.speedrun.com/pkmncrystal/thread/fypqw .
I can try to answer here though. The correct version of gambatte should read in the top left: Filename.gbc <PSR> - Gambatte-Speedrun (r717) and upon hard resetting your Crystal Rom should read "Reset R717" followed by either EE6F5188 or 3358E30A or BB6DD80C.
But definitely go ahead and join the discord and ask under #emulator-help and people may have a linux specific tip for you.
Sorry I missed your response, SRC Forums aren't used too often anymore. I am not sure what the easiest way to get the Jack item is since I mainly focus on glitchless categories. Either asking in the psr discord under #red-blue-glitched https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnredblue/thread/se2sp and/or in the Glitch City Research Institute Discord https://discord.gg/EA7jxJ6 would likely get you the answer you're looking for.
Hey there! What do you mean by "effect item"? Since red/blue doesn't have held items, I suppose you mean items used in battle? In certain battles like the S.S. Anne Rival, they may use an item in battle ~12.5% of the time when their pokemon is under ~20% hp. If this is what you're looking for this spreadsheet has each trainer, their moveset, and the items they may use under Special AI: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hvl96aohy7wq4sz/Pokemon%20Red%20trainer%20guide.xlsx?dl=0
Edit: It was pointed out to me that rival effect is just another name for the Jack item. You can read about it here https://glitchcity.wiki/Rival%27s_effect or ask in the psr discord under #red-blue-glitched https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnredblue/thread/se2sp
Best place to ask would be the gen 1-3 pokemom speedrunning discord https://www.speedrun.com/pkmnredblue/thread/se2sp the channel for emerald is under GEN 3 #emerald-glitchless
