Considering the GT6 section seems to have implemented a track records page already:

https://www.speedrun.com/gt6/individual_levels

...with endless amounts of categories inside of categories inside of categories...

I'm in favor of keeping the leaderboards as is, both games play similarly enough to not be separate games, both are called and play as Star Wars Battlefront. As they told me with the console version, if one version has a benefit over the other, than go buy that version, the PC port on Steam is no different in this regard. New people and others will view the console runs as the more popular/superior categories to the PC ones, to which then the PC runs will be pushed onto the back burner, and won't hold as much value as their console counterparts

By that i mean that we’re going to put so many categories down, that the records’ll be muddled to the point of where most wont even matter anymore. While he’s the two versions may be slightly different, they’re still the same name, and came out as the same game, there aren’t enough differences in the core game to call for an ENTIRELY new category fo EVERYTHING that’s already on there. And also, there are very few PC runners, so most people will see that the console versions are being ran more, ignore the PC runs, and just go for those instead, creating a gap in value between the two categories. Besides, as I was told with the emulator forum, the PC version’s on steam, it’s an old game, why not just buy that one and do a run on there if you can’t do it on console? It’s not that much money anyways

And just like how the PC can't play hard mode compared to the consoles, now the PC has its own advantages over consoles like they did over PC. I think we shouldn't split the categories, as people'll look to the faster times anyways, and very few people play on PC as is, so anyone new won't want to even try to run that category

United Statesspindaspinda5 years ago

Can't really do that if I can't even play on an emulator~

United Statesspindaspinda5 years ago

(By that I meant games are being emulated correctly~ I feel as though many people are never gonna accept them until the consoles are literally rotting away from the plastic falling apart~)

Now we have reached the pay to win ending~ Where I have three runs on hard mode that all have knocked off around a minute each, and can't be done on PC cause of the fancy AI. Because my console and copy of battlefront are busted, and I have to get a capture card, I have to pay up and do all of them again, and the only difference (Because its an IL run, load times don't matter because it's not fullgame~) being one is of lesser quality video and audio

United Statesspindaspinda5 years ago

Of course~ The test done in that PCSX2 Wiki was on windows 8.1 and on the 1.2 version of the emulator, as stated below, all the problems were fixed in 1.5~

United Statesspindaspinda5 years ago

Okie, I can get ya that~ PS1 and 2 emulation is wayyyyy farther ahead than Xbox emulation~ Especially in 2019. Soooo many games are done correctly on it... Like Gran Turismo 4... Sly Cooper... Resident Evil 4... GTA Vice City... Jack and Dexter 2... Whole list here~: https://pcsx2.net/compatibility-list.html

United Statesspindaspinda5 years ago

Now that ya said why~

And while yes you CAN buy those cheap, they would be bad quality consoles and footage (And yes $8 is less than $10 for the game~). And also, $20 DOES make the recording quality extremely poor, all the decent recording software's $60+. So if ya wanna be cheap and make your footage look like it's from 2004 when the game came out, then yeah, you could go for that. But new peeps are just gonna shy away and play something else instead, or find a game that allows for emulation

While the PC version is accessible, as Dark_Phantom has said in one of the forums:

"Hard is extremely hard on PC. The AI for version 1.2 (PC only) was greatly improved, and it is noticeable in comparison (see my 5 hour hard run in which I get totally destroyed at the end). The bad part about this is that there isn't a good way to go back to the 1.0 version without the original 3-disk set. In addition to that, the soldier is a little underpowered on PC because no Aim Assist, and the pilot's ability to heal (along with the shotgun being nice) is good to have."

And also Boston Brew putting it nicely in the same forum~ "Oh I also should mention the PC version is harder"

So, If I wanted to run on Hard Mode, I would need to play one of the console ports. In order to play the PS2 version, I would need a Capture Card, A Console, and a Copy of Battlefront. The console would be around $50, a good capture card $70, and Battlefront $8, coming out to $138+Shipping. An emulator would allow play for only the cost of Battlefront, have much higher quality video/audio, and have next to no differences between the two versions in the Individual Levels Category.

As said in the title, would an emulator such as PCSX2 be available for running Individual Levels? I get why it wouldn't be for full game runs, as the loading screens are much faster than the console hardware.

However, I noticed when comparing a single level run I completed on my PS2 and on PCSX2, both the speed, performance, and the times at the end of the level were the same. To make the game more available, splitscreen to be much easier to do, and to record in much better quality, would this method be alrighty?

United Statesspindaspinda6 years ago

Welp, there goes a buncha recordings we did with those server rules we were given~

United Statesspindaspinda6 years ago

In my opinion, the leaderboards have already been more cluttered with the addition of splitscreen, adding categories for each game would only make it even worse in that regard.

Not to mention, most runners would stick to Xbox anyways, there's far less of us who play on PC or PS2, so most people would just look to the Xbox section as the "Official" version, and just run that one; while the other two categories would sit empty or be very desolate

A friend and I have also been pretty interested in this~ We're both on the PC version, and were wondering if it's possible to include instant action maps for just the two of us?

Well alrighty, thanks for the replies, Happy 2029 everyone~

I would love to start speedrunning MK7, but I feel as though the video quality would be abysmal if a run was recorded using an outside camera. Citra's far more accurate than it was a year ago, and many other 3DS Speedrun games are moving in that direction. I’ve got a save I ported from my digital copy of MK7 on my 3DS, is there a reason for not recording on an emulator?

Which area do you mean? The only categories are Professional and Master

Just to add, sometimes one of the levels in a full game run is either glitched (such as the level Patient Zero; SA and SA/SO are broken because of a guy jumping off a mountain at the start), or just way too hard for the category (again Patient Zero, SA/SO on that one is almost Kaizo levels of masochism to pull off, but the other levels in the campaign are fine).
