Leaderboard split shouldn't happen. You can already use the filters set up to see who has the best time for each individual console. No reason to do that since you can always just get the game for the fastest platform, this being PC. Its like saying WiiVC and N64 should be separated for Ocarina of Time because VC loads faster.
Furthermore, splitting the boards would just create the same problem between consoles too. The logical choice would be to pick the console with the best loading times and you're going to have the same issue where someone using the faster platform is going to be ahead. For example, you'd want to take something with reasonable load times, but also has the invisible Frink lag to clip through the power plant wall so you can chop off a good amount of time end game assuming you get it. Say a backwards compatible first gen PS3.
Details on the tweak I was using for 60fps can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Spore/comments/30qip5/how_to_play_spore_at_60_fps_remove_the_30_fps/
I don't really think it affects game physics in a way which would end up speeding things up at all but I've been using it for so long that I don't really remember the difference. But yeah. I'll revert it back to how it was vanilla and do a quick run through of creature stage to really see if it affected anything negatively.
1: I have both pieces of DLC for this game, do runs need to be done with the base game only or is it fine to use parts from Creepy & Cute and so on?
2: Currently I'm using a tweak to make the game run at 60fps rather than the default 30 (it plays awfully without in comparison). Is that allowed? I don't see any mention of it in the rules.
3: Not a question but you guys should probably separate ILs into an IL leaderboard. For example like this: http://www.speedrun.com/The_Simpsons_Hit_and_Run
This was more of an issue when you had a bunch of misc categories but as the board becomes more populated it'll be harder to fix this kind of thing in the future.
4: Just due to how the nature of the game works, what about my own creations popping up in a world? I believe that they're supposed to be scaled to appear properly but what would be stopping me making a bunch of creatures which are incredibly easy to kill in the hopes that the game throws them in there with me?
Don't even get me started on the whole getting people set up on SRL because people wanted points out of it too that was where I stopped trying lol
Yeah I'd say that's fair. We have recently got a burst of new runners I don't know either so its understandable that you'd be less interested in going through the motions of getting everyone in for something like that again.
Did anything end up coming out of this? I'd watch people try and do a bingo race if I can pick out an awful card for you to suffer through. Not joining of course, I just want to see who would stick it out for the longest.
Also maybe the fixed time thing isn't working out with everyone having work and such. Would be best to just ask around and see when everyone is free instead of having a set race time where very few people (if anyone) ever shows up for it.
I guess it was just easier to set these up before due to there being less people overall and everyone generally being free during that timeframe. Sucks but what can you do really.
Are ILs not up yet? Still waiting to be able to submit times.
Whilst you're at it add some kind of NG+ and Individual Levels.
Once I can get fraps to not make the game way too unsaturated I'll throw some links your way. Only for stuff I haven't seen posted elsewhere though.
Making videos for my notes on some skips anyway so we're hitting two birds with one stone this way.
There should be yeah. I can't say for sure because something came up last minute (if 5am counts as last minute) last time but I'll try my best to get everything together if nobody else has took over for this week.
Just join the discord https://discord.gg/0Yr4neTLlPwCXhUN and keep an eye on the race channel. Don't know what time we're starting, could even be on a Friday or Sunday because people are having issues with the timing we've been doing since we started.
edit- again sorry about last week but there wasn't much I could do about it
edit edit- I don't set these races up any more. Y'all can stop asking me.
As a sidenote I've worked on a bunch of lategame objectives to make sure it's incredibly unlikely you will ever get a board you can finish before the end of Marge (about 50 cards for Apu onwards until I ran out of ideas). These changes should show up some time this week assuming I can get everyone together to decide which ones are going into the system, just a matter of getting everyone in a call at the same time to make sure we don't add something like "Destroy 50 Wasps" again.
The plan for next week is to test out a Bingo race instead of doing another weekly. If its not ready in time (still testing if some things are possible and we need ideas) we'll do the ASM race as normal.
¤post updated July 2016
Revision 4 of H&R Bingo, includes a bunch of lategame objectives because all the races we did ended by the time we got to Marge due to the high amount of earlygame objectives we had submitted.
The idea is to do All Story Missions (not any% due to load differences) while doing certain objectives you normally wouldn't do.
SUBMIT IDEAS HERE: (Edit: I no longer have access to this googledoc. This thread works just as well.)
Objectively bad ideas or things which cannot be proven to be possible won't even be acknowledged. Please make sure these submissions are actually possible to complete before submitting them.
Yeah we're starting at around 2pm today, give or take whatever time it takes for everyone to be set up and in the call or whatever.
edit: If there does happen to be a last minute time change I'll do my best to make it painfully obvious what time it is, while also trying my best to come up with a time which is still reasonable for everyone. All depends on how many people can't make it to this one and how many people are OK with a different time/day to be racing. Shouldn't happen this week (especially with 20 minutes left before the race) but who knows.
If you guys are still okay with that time I don't see any reason in changing it. Just waiting on a response from one or two other people I've asked myself but we already have a fair few people assuming everyone turns up on time.
I'll avoid just forfeiting after screwing something up this time too. PB stinks enough to PB so long as I don't screw up everything which requires any kind of skill.
Basically whatever time we can actually get everyone that wants to be in the race there for. Time zones are all over the place for everyone so I can't decide on my own and even then I'm most likely not hosting the call or whatever. My part in this is just to get these races to be a somewhat regular thing because I liked it last time regardless of me quitting at Apu.
Also I honestly don't remember what time the last one was so whoops
From the looks of it right now, the race should be starting some time on Saturday. (At least from the people who I've been able to ask and get a response from have all came back and said Saturday would be fine.) I'll admit that I've not asked many people yet, mainly because I've neglected to actually add many people on anything but the Skype group nobody checks to ask them on aside from PMs on Twitch, which just get hidden anyway.
All we need to do now is find a time which everyone can be racing at and we should be good. I assume we're using the Skype group call thing again because we already have people in there and but we'll worry about that on the day.
I'll talk to a few people I've seen learning recently too and see if they're interested in a race. There are about 2 or 3 people I know probably would take part in a race (even though they just started learning). Should just be a matter of telling them who we are and when its happening. If I can't actually finish runs yet I can try my best to get more people into running this game instead using this as a reason behind it.
edit: Next week could be a problem. New course starts on the 8th and I don't know what the workload is going to be for the first few months, plus I'm looking for a job which works with the new timetable. Probably going to sit this one out because I don't know what days I have off. edit 2: I'm good to join from Fridays to Mondays, assuming this is still happening on this weekend I'm good to race again once or twice a fortnight, for now at least.
If I'm actually awake at that point I'll run alongside everyone up to Marge then call it quits because I'm not happy with anything after it, plus I'm still behind on learning the coin routes.
I'll just use this to see how well I remember everything instead.
