What makes a speedgame "bad"? Personally i think those things make a game bad for speedrunning:
- Lots of punishing RNG that cannot be manipulated (using the random.org API would even require you to stay online)
- No routing opportunities (this can mean a bunch of things)
- no skill progression (someone that plays their first time can be just as good as someone that plays the game for years)
- unskippable cutscenes
That being said, it looks a bit ugly (although with a major overhaul like this that's a bit expected), maybe changing the colors or something will help? (idk I'm not a graphic design kinda guy).
As a graphic designer i really like statements like this from my clients.
Seems like a good improvement, thx for the fast update. I agree with @diggity that a collapsed state should probably be even smaller but i guess for now the current styling is a good enough "hotfix".
Found a bug with "• Increase size and improve location of run time". If the game has real-time as it's default timing method then ILs that use only IGT will show the (empty) RTA time instead of the ingame-time.
To me it seems very unfair to get banned forever due to how easy it is. Simply having an unpopular opinion that the mods or the users in general dislike will get you banned
I've been browsing the site forums for like 2 years now and can't remember any such cases. If it's so "easy" to get banned, then changing the way bans work probably won't solve any problem and it sounds more like a problem with the rules or with how the rules are enforced. Regarding cheating, the site rules are pretty clear on this and since everyone agrees to those rules when signing up for the site it's, imo, clear that they cheated on purpose and knowing that this risks their whole account. And since there are ways to appeal a ban without having an account on the site, it's imo pointless to separate leaderboard bans from forum bans.
How would you police alts and which account should be able to submit runs? srcom can't really verify which account is an alt and who owns it.
TIL a google form can contain only about 30000 characters in total (not per input field).
let's create a discord for this thread
And instead of pushing updates on the live server they could do weekly or bi-weekly updates. So it's at least more obvious if some change is intended or if people should report it as a bug. Would save time [enter image of a gold split here] for everyone.
I'll certainly stop submitting runs and won't ("officially") verify runs that are less than 20 days old (to give elo time to resolve this and be somewhat fair to people that want their run on a board regardless).
https://speedrun.com/legal "We may modify these Terms of Use at any time. Any such modifications will apply prospectively, from the date the modifications are made, as designated by the “Last Revised” date depicted above." ... There is no "Last Revised" date depicted above. So we don't even know which runs cannot be moved away from the site.
Edit: presumably sometime during June 23rd according to this post: https://twitter.com/TheNameOfMike/status/1413735024386527232
I was about to suggest removing objects with the "global-announcement" class using js or css injection but that would break the feature for the future if you forget to remove it. A dismiss button should probably be added soon before people start removing it manually.
What other reasons can there be for trophy icons not updating? I've had a case of it not applying my change for like 6 months across multiple browsers and computers/phones. I have since reverted that change but I should still have the original files so I can test again.
