If anyone has ideas to add to the spreadsheet let me know and I'll try to add them
@WiRaR so a rule such as "no cross-game benefits" would also not allow the buying of the AI module without unlocking it normally correct? I would love to use these cross-game benefits but I also agree that the setup, or file edits, required make it very annoying on the player. I know personally I'd rather not have to spend time setting something like that up.
Also, I saw your comment in discord about not having the time to verify several runs. I'm willing to help verify times if you'd like. As far as I understand it's just a quick download, throw into editing software, get frames for start and end time, calculate frames, convert to time, and watch to make sure it's valid. Sure I might not want to do it forever, but I'd like to help.
0.8.2c UPDATE CHANGES (that might affect speedruns)
-First off, I found out I was wrong about the prop grab TP not working in 8.2b. I didn't know you had both hook and grab, I only tried one or the other. They appear to work in both 8.2b and 8.2c
-High player max speed still exists
-Don't have to make an order for prop fly anymore, use metal scrap for nails and hammer on workbench
-Lots of healing items in the bathroom and plates, bowls, pots in the kitchen. Some have good price to weight ratio
-Small item placement change in Admin room; moved MREs in includes a small plate now
New settings
-Not exactly sure what the physics events setting is, I'm guessing it's in relation to the 2 new events
-Align view to the floor setting will pitch the camera if you stand on a prop with an angled surface (I turned this off)
@WiRaR I mentioned it a couple days ago, but do you know how 8.2c will fit as a version. I figured 8.2b and 8.2c could possibly be combined and you could pick which one works best for the speedrun.
I wonder if the high max player speed was kept as well or if it was removed
@babyemogirl what is the hook+grab+tp tech?
I just finished planning and practicing the new run I'm doing so I'm going to spend a couple days running it before I download the new version. If 0.8.2c is close enough to 0.8.2b I wonder if combining them together is a good precedent. This allows times from either version but one leaderboard (similar to minecraft). Looking through the leaderboard this could also be done with 0.8.0e and 0.8.1b as no category has times from both versions. Just add a version specification to other detials section when submitting runs
The run I'm doing doesn't belong to any category so it won't go on a leaderboard. The run is Inv% meaning how fast you can get 8x fanny packs (4k points). Put your guesses in for a final time. Glitchless with debug TP and set seed for consistency. (Hint: less than 10 buy/sell orders)
A classic, there's new strat that makes previous runs irrelavent. I'd say go for it reguardless as a sub 10 would be awesome. I was impressed with your use of the drone as that's probably the thing I work around the most. I'm still trying to figure out what's fastest for me as I'm currently making 5 separate buy orders with 2 sell "orders" and I'm not sure how long it takes me to do things to make sure I'm not waiting around for the drone. I don't want to spoil my run at all so I'll try to get a baseline out in the next few days but I think you'll be rather surprised at how I get money in this run.
Reguarding prop fly, I think anything that has uninteded behavior to be a glitch.
For buying the Kerfer-O parts, I tested it last night by starting a new story mode save and you're able to buy the parts. I've only played on 0.8.2b since I just got the game a couple weeks ago. Is this not the case in 0.8.2? If it is the case then I'd assume this is unintentional. From the little I know about other versions I know a lot of small things can change and this could definitely be one of them. Just tried removing all my story mode saves and making a fresh one and even then I can still buy the parts.
One other random thing I discovered recently while looking for things that could be helpful in my run I found the props impact physics setting. I'm not sure if anyone else would use this setting but don't forget it exists as it actually can be quite helpful. Want to make 100% sure an explosive barrel won't explode? Don't want a wooden barrel to explode when it hits things too many times? Turn off the setting and you're good to go. I'm fairly certain this doesn't effect my run in any way but silencing the noise when pulling something with the ATV for 10 minutes is nice.
Great run btw, made me realize that trying to work in the hacksaw can save time over opening the safe manually. Also, when I saw that prop fly was a thing I laughed because of corse a game with the source engine sounds has an easy to do prop fly.
For context, I decided to plan a Kerfur-O speedrun myself over a week ago and just now found that VotV already has a speedrunning community. I was essentially planning to for the Omega Kerfur Glitchless on version 0.8.2b. I've got a question/suggestion reguarding the buying of Kerfur parts.
I am easily able to obtain nearly 1600 points within 10 minutes. When I was routing I decided buying the joints and AI module took a lot of the challenge away from a run. Does it seem crazy to suggest that buying the parts shouldn't be allowed? I understand allowing it in Any% but disallowing it in Glitchless would encourage more diverse strategies.
I'm not sure what my projected time is as I haven't started real runs yet but it's at least 30 minutes. Being able to buy parts would shorten the run to under 20 minutes as you would only have to get the radioactive capsule and Kerfur-O manual. Apologies for the long message; looking forward to setting runs for VotV.
