I feel like if you did one and submitted it, they would create a category for it, but historically, responses from mods over here are relatively slower than in other forums I'm a part of.

Can you give me a link to the newer version? I didn't realize there was one.

I also didn't realize that the map was included in scoring. As far as I'm aware, extra credits are awarded up to four completions for each puzzle on every difficulty after the first time (and I think it's up to seven on the word search). I was going to go for a high score run, but it was kinda boring with all the redundancy.

Two reasons, really. The first is that the map isn't really a puzzle, it's just an ancient form of DRM protection disguised as part of the game. Second, because most abandonware sites I looked into have hacked versions that will bypass this section no matter where you click. I didn't want to have to rule out free versions simply because they bypass the no longer necessary DRM tools (I believe earlier installments of the Dr Brain series are considered abandoned as far as copyrights are concerned).

Here's an example:

If you get a balance puzzle, then exit and re-enter to get another puzzle, does it still work?

I don't think the races can be skipped in the DOS version, but it looks like the races in your version skip entirely. The glider plane doesn't even get off the ground before you're standing on the victory platform.

Heh, money town. Every page of every building has 1-3 money doors, and you can get most of the great parts in a few trips through the building. I'll make a better map for ya after my class today.

EDIT: I tried for ages to get a check skip or cancel for those puzzles, but my version doesn't have that menu bar.

Texas, USAoddtom5 years ago

Holy crow your version is faster. Other stuff I've noticed:

  • General faster movement except for the tube and using trampolines / springboards
  • You can skip the races?!
  • You can skip the "hooray you solved the puzzle" jingle after every puzzle
  • The level immediately balances out; you don't have to sit through it slowly calibrating

I'll modify my other runs, and I'm sure I have better versions of those maps somewhere. Drop into one of my streams if you see me on; I don't mind talking about other games than the one I'm playing. I've got an exam for an FAA cert in July, but I'll have a bit more time after that to compile what I remember. I'm sure you can get under an hour with the version you have.

On the other Super Solvers games, we mix the two versions together. When I first started, I didn't even know there was a newer version; I just thought it was asking if we were using a DOS emulator or playing on Windows. It's really only an issue over on Operation Neptune, because Ms Riley had the newer version and she was trying to beat my time on an old DOS version. She eventually did, but it was kinda anti-climactic bc it was obvious that the program running faster had a lot to do with it.

I don't know a whole lot about the newer version, but if you can de-activate magnet puzzles or any other little tricks, more power to ya. If we can turn off the new player hints in the DOS version, I don't see a reason to restrict turning off puzzle types either.

Sadly, I don't have the program anymore. Or the computer. I was a moron and didn't back anything up, thinking it would live forever. I lost everything that was on that computer. A few months ago, I got inspired to try to recreate it, but I just don't have the time anymore to collect the data that I need. Back then, I was riding the light rail for an hour to and from work and I would try to map out the packages for one area each trip. Thankfully Winslinator posted test results for Treasure Cove on Google Sheets, but everything I had is in a data file that is long gone.

The more recent, very incomplete reboot is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12PkEZGgFx_escO9RfxUdQpxlKsIUzKE2fvWCFvfZRhE

I basically broke it down by splitting the areas into segments of movement with likely packages, so I only had to manipulate ten or fifteen items at a time. I know I posted the map somewhere up on SRC, and I'll link it if I can find it. I was hoping to find an optimal route, but on average, it turned out that each segment contained 1-2 good pieces and the rest was junk (decals, bananas, and wooden frames, etc.)

TLDR; Don't sweat the small stuff. I'd love to see some Gizmos runs!

Hello everyone, I'm collecting information about various forms of text storage used in speedruns for a video I plan on making. If your game or one you know of uses a form of text storage, I'd like to hear about it- how it works, how it was discovered, and really anything you can think of related that might help me understand it.

In a game I run, it works similar to how I've seen it used in Pikmin runs, i.e. using text spams just before cutscenes to manipulate them. The term seems to have slightly different meanings in the context of different games, though, and I want to try to cover as much of it as I can.

I've found links explaining text storage usage in games of the Tony Hawk and LOZ series, but I'd like to try to get an idea of how widespread usage is and how broad the definition has become.

Thanks!

Dare I say that this could be faster if you tilled the farm berry?

I believe it's 100+ affection for each. Careful with Cliff- he leaves the farm if he's not at least 51 on Winter 1 unless he's the Harvest King, but I think routing would require Jack to be Harvest King.

I would also like to point out that the bachelors didn't show up to the New Years Festival bc didn't befriend them enough, so your run is five short :-)

I'll see your New Year Festival run and raise you All Festivals- A run where you win/attend every single festival at least once. Both horse races? Sure, why not? Current idea:

Spr 1 - Win the drinking contest with everyone Spr 8 - Ride in the balloon with someone Spr 17 - Win Spring Horse Race Spr 23 - Dance with someone

Sum 1 - See fireworks with someone Sum 9 - Win Veggie Fest Sum 17 - Attend Firefly festival Sum 24 - Beat Kai the mermaid

Fall 4 - Win Cow Fest Fall 12 - Win Harvest King and dance with someone Fall 20 - Win Egg Fest Fall 27 - Win Fall Horse Race

Win 19 - Win Dog Race Win 24 - Attend Starry Night Fest with someone Win 27 - Play Ocarina at festival Win 30 - Spend NYE with someone

[Optional?] Win 10 - Get a cake from every girl (140 affection each)

For some reason I'm #1 AND #2 now, so that's weird

@Iglum

I also added it to the "guides" page

I thought so too. I first saw a TAS run do it and just tried to replicate it, but the window for moving and jumping off the helicopter is abysmally small, and then you have to scramble to the edge of the screen with web shots. I can write a quick tutorial for it this weekend.

I just saw the Voyager run- holy crow you've improved! Haven't looked at the Expert Mode yet. I was going to make a matching bullet point list, but I don't really have any argument with any of these.

I don't think the platforms are separated on any other TLC / Treasure game, but there is a huge difference for sure. I think my time over on Treasure MathStorm suffers bc I'm using an earlier version (the only one I happened to find for free online)

I swear I'm gonna give you some competition one of these days Ms Riley. You've breathed a lot of life back into this game, and I'm coming back for those times.

P.S. You may be the only one currently grinding it, but you're not the only one interested in it.

Good catch on the whole numbers / fractions. I thought it was based on the difficulty level settings- that's how it works in Gizmos and Gadgets, and this is the same developer (I think?). What happens if you menu reset the difficulty settings right before hitting the combo lock?

I usually use the ClassicReload site, so I can't use save-states, but if you have a DosBox emulator or similar, we can use that to determine about where the combo lock is decided. For example, if you save state right in front of the lock and see if it's the same combo every time, then work your way backward. We did a similar thing in Harvest Moon 64 to try to figure out when items are spawned in the mine.

The other Treasure games have discrepancies between an emulator and internet sites, so I'd believe there are discrepancies here.

There's currently someone on our Harvest Moon discord building TAS's for the HM Gameboy games, and I think I'm going to try to send him this way.
