Just came across this game on here. One thing I've noticed is none of the runs here use the shortcut start of the game. It's precise, but it's no big deal if you mess up as you can keep reseting until you get it. Admittedly, I do divert time in the WIP for mana and bombs. As you'll need them later in the game. The boss fight could most definitely be improved upon. Don't know if you have to get rid of all the little pumpkins at the start of the battle before the boss appears. Also running diagonally and hugging walls doesn't slow you down. So you can zig-zag all you want.
The rule was created by a previous mod. It's there as a quality standard, and stops people submitting glorified lets plays where they credit feed their way through the game.
Just to clarify how the teleportation loads are timed since I'm a little unclear on the wording. Is the first and last frames used in these two pics below?
Request to be a mod for Blue's Journey please.
I don't see how the game differs from other versions of the game other than the interface. I don't think a game should have a separate category on the basis of it having a worse control scheme. If you're gonna make the accessibility argument, I'd recommend people play it on emulator instead.
As of right now they're not. Timing methods would either need to be adapted, or the community would need to agree on allowing them.
Sorry I accidentally created a temporary link. Here's an updated on.
Here's a discord link for anyone who wishes to discuss this game

My sentiments are very much in line with what Rasha said. Whether we need to do this right now I don't know. However, as time goes on working Saturns will become more scarce and replacing drives won't be easy. Not to mention the game goes for around ~$150 and will only continue to get more expensive. Will people who own the game want to make frequent use of what might be a $300+ game 10 years from now? I know from owning games like Panzer Dragoon Saga, Magic Knight Rayearth and Shinrei Taromaru I most definitely won't. In the future I'd most likely gravitate towards using a RHEA. Satiator or MODE. Devices that would have clear loading advantages over optical discs.
My worries are that this will open he flood gates for people doing other categories or even other games. By using a decision made here as a precedent. Also, what if this version of Maria gets a future E-shop release? Are we going to change the timing rules, because there is little to no loads on modern console or PC? After all, players generally favour using the fastest version of the game. Which is the reason no one does Richter or Alucard on the Saturn. Finally there is the issue of mods having to manually re-time runs, which will be lengthy and error prone as shown in the video posted by the OP. Especially in a All Bosses run. Also how exactly loads are being timed may also be unclear.
I'm going to vote yes. Not because it's something we need to do right now, but because it's something that will inevitably need to be done as time goes on.
Skipping the Cardio cutscene in level 4 saves 30 seconds, but to do it requires beating the section prior, which sets a flag which allows you manually skip the lengthy dialogue . Initially, I thought it required having a pre-made file. However, that didn't work. Which made me realise that the cutscene flag is stored in the games RAM, and not save file. Similar to what the options for text speed and control schemes are for MKR. So prior to any attempt you would need to go into or play up to level 4. Beat the Cardio section and soft reset out.
I created a discord channel should anyone need to ask for help in relation to speedrunning this game https://discord.gg/Tmnu7Z
For those who want to ask questions or discuss speedrunning activity related to this game.
I want to give this game a go at some point. However, there is a distinct lack of information when it comes to speedrunning this game. I wouldn't mind if there were resources added for this game.
For the majority of Neo Geo library there is no difference that effects gameplay. However, there is notable differences in the case of Magician Lord, because the AES and MVS are separate versions.
-
MVS has longer invulnerability times upon gaining control of Elta. This makes sense in the arcades because Elta respawns from where he last died. Whereas the AES version makes you start the stage or guardian boss fight over again. In terms of speedrunning, this helps during some of the guardian boss fights
-
AES version has more health, allowing the possibility of damage shortcuts. There's a shortcut in the first level that saves about 10 seconds, which can't be taken advantage of in the MVS (using stock arcade settings) version.
Would I need to request again if they're not logged in by this time next week?
I'd like to become a mod for Neo Drift Out: New Technology please.
